So I’m a 38 year old ex construction worker that is unable to work due to injury. I have made 4 loaves of bread off this video. It just keeps getting better every loaf. These are my first 4 loaves ever. Thank you for this. The struggle of working 80+ hour weeks to sitting at home is rough. Now I have something to do that relaxes me. Thank you for this. Gave me some hope for my life. Super relaxing.

I made this dough but added an extra 2 tbsp sugar to the dry flour and worked it in. After the dough had risen, I rolled it out to a half an inch thick, and cut it into 3 inch squares. I put them on a baking sheet and let them rise again. Brushed the top with egg wash. Then I baked them in the oven at 350 until the top was a beautiful golden brown and they looked like little pillows. Up on coming out of the oven I brushed them with melted sweet cream butter and let them cool. I then dusted half of them with powdered sugar. The other half I filled with fresh Bavarian Cream. WOW! There are no words. They were light, had the perfect texture, not too sweet, and they were a hit for sure. Almost like a yummy beignet. No doubt about it. This is a wonderfully versatile dough recipe!

Just watched this today and made my very first, from scratch, loaf of bread. I used a mix of whole-wheat and bleached flour (because it's all I had on hand) and a little brown sugar and honey in my first attempt (yes, I'm overly daring). I also punched the dough down twice and extended the rising time by another half-hour just because I was also in the middle of cooking dinner and the oven was occupied after the first rise. All in all... SUCCESS! The end product was FANTASTIC! A little spread of butter on a slice with a tiny sprinkle of course sea-salt... marvelous! Thanks, Ms. Winger! Great video presentation too!

Just a pro tip on the pizza. You had a pizza stone to bake it on, but you put it in the oven with the pizza. Pizza shops usually have ovens that get way hotter than a normal house oven (1000F+ vs 500F). To help mimic this, you want to put the stone in the oven before the pizza and let it sit there for a while. Get your oven as hot as it can go and let the stone absorb the heat. Then when you put the pizza in, it’ll sit on that stone and the crust will immediately start to brown and bubble like you get at a restaurant.

Totally doubled it because we like to E.A.T. and it was delish! My mom (79yrs young) and dad (71yrs young) both were moaning “mmmmmmm” while eating two each. It was quite funny. Needless to say, they were fabulous! Thank you! We tried the loaf and the biscuits, they are already planning on trying the cinn buns and the pizza dough. 🥰 Thank you!

Thank you so much for showing everyone how to have your dough rise in the oven. I have a cold and drafty kitchen at best, even in the summertime it’s not an ideal place to have anything rise. So thank you for sharing your tip with us.

Lovely recipe! Bread proofing tip: if your oven has a pilot light, there’s no need to heat it at all and if your oven doesn’t have a pilot light, just turn on the actual oven light. It will warm your oven up to about 100 degrees f. which is perfect for yeast dough to rise in, without worrying about it being too hot to kill the yeast.

I should have done this. I heated my oven and then turned it off, put the dough in and when I went back in an hour, the dough was stuck to my bowl and super sticky. 🫠

I lay an electric heating pad on my counter and turn it to medium high heat setting. I put the bowl with dough ball in it directly on the pad and let the warm heat do its magic

Jill, because of you, I have finally mastered the basic bread. Thank you. It’s been many failures. I finally see I was using the crappy yeast packets. I used a jar today and it finally dissolved. Unfortunately I don’t have a Dutch oven yet so I’m about to see how I can bake it another way. However, just having the dough actually rise is a huge win in my eyes. Thank you So much!! Tired of spending money on stale store bread!!!

Pro tip: Mom would put the bread in the car to raise. The sunlight warmed the interior of the car. She would then take us shopping, taking a break to punch the dough down for the second rise. The car smelled so good! Great video!

You helped me make bread for the first time EVER in my life! I turned 45 in December and decided that I needed to teach myself something new - something to get curious about, something to figure out, and something that doesn't involve staring at a computer screen or exercising (both of which I tend to overdo on a regular basis). After watching your video, I just went for it. And it was a huge success - THANK YOU!! 😊😊

I really love your video Jill! You describe making bread the way I had to have it explained to me when I was learning. About how warm the water is, about how the bread is going to feel. I learned that bread making starts with a recipe, and then it's an intuitive process of sight and smell and feel. Thank you!

I'm 18 and I've never made dough by myself before so I wanted to see how it goes I made 2 loafs with this recipe. 1 with regular sugar and the other with brown sugar. They're rising right now. Hope I did good 🤞

Update: I made this recipe and OMG, its so good. Fluffy on the inside as hamburger buns and a hoagie style loaf. And it has a nice chew, that might be from the egg. My next batch will have an extra ¼ to ½ tsp salt, just my preference. So I stayed true to the recipe and got 3 "Whopper" sized buns or rolls; 1-8" hoagie loaf, and enough dough chillaxing in the fridge for a 10-12" pizza crust. Or some cinnamon rolls 😋. 💜 Thanks so much for your recipe 💜
@jazpoop79767 ай бұрын
Omg this turned out great! I'm pregnant and was craving cinnamon rolls though. So I sprinkled brown sugar and cinnamon on top before putting it in the oven to bake. When it came out I buttered the slice and sprinkled cinnamon and powdered sugar. My husband gobbled his down. So delicious and versatile! Thank you!
