On another note...i do kno that some female CO's were givin up the pussy to the older juvies that were locked up on the pre-adult block (16-18 yr olds) and there was a lot of male CO's raping other kids daily. Adult prisons aren't as bad as juvenile prisons when it came to rape and violence, there is WAY more violent & sexual assaults in juvenile prisons...it fuckin makes me sick to think about the fact that grown ass men were getting excited to come into work to molest young boys only to leave and go home to their families after work 😡

I can tell you know nothing about these places because there were people who were sent there because they were abused, abandoned and neglected. So you think them children were criminals? What law did they break, being born perhaps? Places like these were used as halfway houses to the children until they found suitable placement. If there is any criminals then it must be you for assuming anyone who came here was a criminal. This is detention place not the CYA. surely, it was ran like a prison or jail, criminals have come through, but not all who came were criminals. You are pretty much blaming the abused, abandoned and neglected as if it's there fault they were mistreated and so they were sent to a place like this, make that make any damn sense?! You know nothing so what you do is fault the innocent. No, not all were innocent, but you don't know until you've heard an individual's story. Why an individual's story? Because no story is the same. Being abused, abandoned and neglected is not the same as being a gang related, a thug, a thief, or a murderer. One is mishaps they had no control of, while the other was a choice. You can't put them all in the same pot. Either you are ignorant and I'm hoping that, or you are a racist/prejudice. I did not make it to a place like this because I was improper but because I was abused, abandoned and neglected (ALL THREE!) Let me ask you a question, as a child, have you ever had to eat out of a trash can because your parents chose dope over you? then you have no idea what you are talking about and that's improper.
@geneconlon97288 жыл бұрын
Me again, retired Corrections Officer. But - even with my background I was puzzled at 2:30 ... that cell had no water or toilet. Then you were looking at the control panel and it labeled the "Dry Cells". I don't think that's legal. Even for short lock ups. huh...
@twitertaker6 жыл бұрын
Some sources say this is legal in the USA if a prisoner swallowed drugs to smuggle them or refuse to urinate for a drug test. As there is no toilet they can not hide their excrements when they finally have to come out.
@notaname81405 жыл бұрын
This is slightly unrelated since it's a different country, but here in Scotland a few prisons kept up the practice of "slopping out" into the early 2000s, basically each cell had a plastic bucket that you would need to empty yourself when you get out of the cell in the morning, but that was mostly because the prisons were Victorian designs that couldn't adequately support modern plumbing. A lot of former prisoners have now won cases against the government though. Apparently some prisons in the Republic of Ireland still do it to this day as well

You make me sick! For the first, everyone who made it there weren't criminals. So you are blaming the abused, abandoned and neglected children for their mishaps? Places like these were halfway houses until they found proper placements. You are definitely ignorant or prejudice to make a statement like that! How dare you! You would have to judge individually because every story is not the same. That's improper! But, what you are doing is putting every single one in one big pot and judge them all the same. You can't put the abused, abandoned and neglected children in the same pot as a murderer. Being abused, abandoned and neglected is a mishap(something unfortunate) while being a murderer, a thug, a gang member is a choice. So it's no wonder they didn't mention that they were improper because they knew (unlike you) that wasn't always the case.

I was a "kids for cash" juvenile 15 years ago when it happened (in PA) I was 15. It was my first and only time in trouble as a juvenile. I got into a small fist fight (maybe 4 hits thrown) with another female my age and had trumped up charges from my town police because it happened inside a house. Not the girls house, my mom and grams friends house, where ive been in before and had permission to be in, the owner came to court and wanted to tell judge chiveralla this but he didnt care to hear it. He didnt let me have any lawyer or public defender either. What made it even worse was right before it was my turn in front of him, another girl around the same age was in front of him for fighting in school. Which everyone knew this judge was against. She got probation. So I'm thinking I will too because it didnt happen in school. Nope. He said he wasn't sure what to do with me (punishment like boot camp or a program to help me) and made me sit in juvie awaiting a psych eval for 3 months. Then eventually sentenced me to 6-9 months in a low security level facility 5 and a hald hours away from my family. I spent my 16th birthday almost 6 hours away from home and family. My parents drove to see me sometime around Christmas a month before my birthday. Not long after my 16th birthday (after being there for about 2 or 3 months) I brokedown and ended up getting what they call "failure to adjust" and spent a few nights in a psych hospital in Erie then a night at a shelter that was owned by the facility I was in before going to the psych hospital. Then I was picked up by someone from the original juvenile center in luzerne county that I was in. Spent a few more days in juvie before going back in front of the judge to be resentenced 9-12 months to the same juvie facility but the long term part that was down the hall from the regular short time juvies. It was like this building but had no pool, 2 or 3 classrooms, 5 dorms when i was there with 12 rooms in each dorm. First 2 dorms were short time juvies with the first one mixed sex and second one males, then the next 2 were long terms first one all males and the second all females, the last was just being built when i was there. Our rooms had a metal bed and metal desk with a metal stool attached, a tall but not very wide window with a metal bar through the middle and the intercom on the wall that went to the staff room in the front of the dorm. The bathroom had 2 showers and 3 bathroom stalls. A staff member would sit in the doorway while 2 girls showered at a time. You had 6 minutes from the time you walked into the bathroom. That includes getting undressed, shower and dressed after, brushing your teeth ect. Once a week, most females had the option to shave with 2 extra minutes. Those on suicide watch had to be watched closely or not shave. The building had a small indoor gym with basketball hoops. In the middle of the building is where we were able to get some air but only from above. We were surrounded by the hallway walls of the facility. The whole building was covered in barbed wire fence because when we had fire drills once in a blue moon we would have to line up against the fence which was literally 6 inches away from the building. Always wondered where theyd make you go if it wasnt a drill. There was also a few small offices for the workers and the intake zone but neither were very big. After it was all over with, I believe I was put away for a total of about 15 months. For hitting another girl a few times, nothing even crazy. Because the judges were getting paid to put us away. I had such a hard time watching the kids for cash documentary even though I was a part of the whole thing. I think because I know for as bad as it was for me, someone else in the same position there had it worse. I was briefly in there with an 8 year old little boy thay supposedly caught his house on fire. I didnt believe it because he was the sweetest little kid and i didnt even like kids then lol he didnt even understand why he had to be there. It was definitely sad. Another person from my area that was involved committed suicide which is in the documentary. Alot of the kids who went in front of these judges did nothing wrong but was put away for months on end because the judges were getting kick backs for putting them away. Chiverella has been trying to overturn his convictions that will keep him in jail for a total of 22 years I think. Personally, I believe he should die in jail. I mean if you could even call where he is, jail. Its more like a country resort.

Hey I have been here. It was originally a Woman's Reformatory built in 1914. Unclear what happens between then and the 1990's but it was ran by another company as a 12 bed service for males ages 9-17 as holding until trial for cases where the kids could not be released to family or guardians. That shut down in 1999 from what I understand and it became a Juvenile Detention center finally until around 2010 as far as I had found before going there. In 2009 2 teens kidnapped a 50 year old working there while escaping and pushed him out of his own car in Athens about an hour or so away. I went in 2017 I believe but they seem to be getting ready to level the place as the national guard owns it now. If not leveling it, they are at least clearing a lot of trees.

FWIW, that was top of the line projection equipment in its day. Small-barrel Century CC-model projectors (double reciprocating shutters), Century R3 soundheads, and Strong Utility arc lamps. The projectors date back to the late 40s, although that doesn't necessarily mean they are original to the site. Someone has removed the Century logo etched glass as souveniers. I'm sure you have found that many older institutions like hotels, schools, prisons, and hospitals had theatres. They are really cool if you can find them with the equipment intact (and not vandalized or rained on), because they often didn't have a lot of hours on them - certainly not like in commercial theatres. In this respect, it's truly like stepping back into a technological time machine. I used to love servicing the equipment in institutional projection booths, because decades-old equipment was almost always like new.

I guess maybe you don't want to give out the location of some places like this for possible future vandals, which is cool and all. But think you could still give out maybe a tiny bit more information than just "abandoned detention center for juveniles?" Like what state it's in, when it opened, and when it finally got abandoned? Thanks.
@rsuriyop4 жыл бұрын
Never mind. Just researched it myself... Facility was originally built in 1914 in Atlanta, GA as a women's reformatory before it got converted in to a youth detention center. Then it closed some time in the 90s. But some buildings remained in use by a mental health provider until 2006.

I ate macaroni and cheese on the school bus and used a knife because I had no fork. Some kid got scared so I got in school suspension. I asked to go to the bathroom and the guy said no so I got up to go anyways, he tried to block me so I punched him in the face.
