What about books or shows that portray mental health? I think you did movies before, would be nice to look into more of those. I remember in my abnormal psych class we watched one f,ew over the cuckoos nest and we had to indenting which patient was in the ward for which pshycological behavior and why. Would be fun to play the game with the audience and tell us what you believe the answer to be. Ha e you talked about sex and relationship therapy yet? Also can you elaborate on what industrial psychologist does? It’s an up and coming field and I would like to know more about what they do!

Listening to music that reflects and even exaggerates my emotions helps me externalize them, which makes them more concrete and easier to deal with. Usually I feel relief afterwards. Whereas listening to music that's calm when I'm anxious or happy when I'm not can be exasperating.

I remember having what I consider to be a "manic" episode when I was a teenager. I remember being bolted out of sleep with an idea to direct a version of The Lorax for my high school. I wrote out the script, revised it, considered costumes, casting, props, thematic imagery, rewrote, reimagined it. I remember the feverish intensity of like a drug rush of ideas pouring out of my brain. It lasted all night long. Then the next day it was like all the energy was gone and the idea seemed kind of dumb. But during it, I felt like Shakespeare.

A girl at my church said, “I’m soo organized, like, if nothing is in its place, I get suuuper upset. Like, I HAVE to have OCD, I know it. I don’t even need it diagnosed, I know for a fact.” I asked her if she ever had to do unnecessary things to put her mind at ease, like open and close a door just because it might not have closed all the way, and she said, “That’s anxiety, OCD is when your super organized.” She said that to a person with severe anxiety, me. I don’t even have OCD, but based off what she said, it’s sounds like she just wants the mental illness excuse when it’s a daily struggle you really do *not* want.

10:53 I really needed to hear that as an artist who got into a life project and recovered some mental health, i just let things marinate for like 7 years, started it as an unstable manic teen and stopped progressively untill last year, only making microscopic progress, but i don't think I'll leave it. Man, i was so creative and my head was so filled with constant flow of ideas and scenarios and, now im healthier and a little bit more under controll, but im not used to this now, my head is not constantly being bombarded and it feels weird, i feel kinda empty at times. I'll figure it out some day.

Great video as always! :) I had a seminar about Bipolar Disorder last week and it was emphasized that it is very unrealistic for people to be highly functioning when they are manic (like you pointed out in the video). But unfortunately it is often portrayed this way in films and TV shows. And yesss to the OCD meme! It is so annoying to me that people are throwing around phrases like ''I like my apartment to be tidy, that is my OCD'' and also '' this person is so borderline'' completely out of context. I think there is a lot more education needed to raise awareness what it means to have OCD and BPD.

at the 10:30 point there is a great meme that I recognize myself in. At first going to therapy was a little stressful as it has certain stigma attached to it where I live and especially in my profession. After about 6 months on the days I went to see my therapist, I felt so relieved, and so up beat, because finally I could work through the things I am going throug, that I really did not suffer in the same way that day as I did the rest of the week. It makes zero sense to me, other then to me, that day is better just by the fact that the therapy session is going to take place. I think it must be frustrating for therapists at times too, as someone like me who feels their entire body tensing up ready to run or fight at the sound of someone dropping a book on the floor, yet on those days that tension is almost completely gone.. It is hard to explain, and I am not doing a good job at it... sorry for rambling.
@Rebazar5 жыл бұрын
That "best work while manic" myth is a pernicious one. Encourages people to engage in poor self-care, and the results aren't even good.

You see, music for me is, When im in a deep depression hole and in a very bad mental situation i tend to listen to up beat music, electronic, things that tend to have higher pitch and are a bit more positive And when im fine, stable and apreciate life a bit more i tend to listen to more slow, and low pitch music, like vaporwave or post rock/punk or just plain static at times. Idk why it is but it is, and it helps me find a stability between extremes, maybe unconsciously.

@bearybearicles15834 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, I always use it as the following though: Fucked-Up Insecure Neurotic Emotional But yours sounds nicer 😅 my version sounds more like I'm making fun of it or as a joke which is initially how I cope with my emotional state since it is idk easier I guess and I hate worrying others. But whenever my therapist or someone I care about asks how I am, I say "I'm fine" and follow it up with that, or if someone says that to me I say that and am like so what's up? Like talk to me, I've been there, felt that, kind of thing. So totally agree with this!
