I think the team failed to ask some key questions. In this call, she clearly is the one that needs to pay off her student loans and stop spending. Some more questions about what “they” owe would of clarify this. I’m with her husband, you keep spending while we are trying to pay off debt, this won’t work.

I agree. I did not hear her say that she pays 50% of the bills. But Dave assumed that she did. Even if she paid an amount proportionate to her income, she still may not pay her agreed-upon portion. I think she is a spendthrift and that is the key problem. Only she can change herself. Many divorces happen because the spending habits of "spenthrifts" are usually NON-NEGOTIONABLE. I moved in with a man many years ago. Our rent was 1200/mo. After he didn't have his 600$ on the last week of the month I made him put 200/wk into a jar in the house. The 4th week of 200 went towards a house fund for things we needed to buy for the house. It worked, but he was 20 years older than me and could not budget. I looked at his bank statement that month and added up what he spent going out to eat. It was 800$. He was easily making 60k/ year and was living like a college student.

So he makes double what she makes and they split the bills probably 50/50 and she is living paycheck to paycheck and he is very frugal and likes to save and invest. The real problem here is the marriage. It does not make sense to split the bills as a married couple UNLESS you have a prenup or postnup or something like that. Legally she owns a huge chunk of HIS savings anyways. So if you dont want to share income,bills etc just dont get married.

I think they got this wrong. Her husband is frugal and extremely good with his budget. She is the weak one, who spends and doesn't control budget like him. Why should he share his hard work? She clearly wants more of his saved budget now. Isn't it obvious he doesn't agree with her ways of saving and spending money? The solution to this isn't for him to go counseling or for him to share him. End of the day, people need to understand some people aren't compatible on certain things and that is fine. If he ends up sharing his with her, she isn't going to change and this is going to be a train wreck. Trust me, this man decided this cause of financial experience with this woman.

@@jo4285 my dads fear was he would die first and she would spend herself into poverty. I had to promise to move her to a house nearby and control her spending if he died. She actually predeceased him though. I learned to envelope budget at age 14 because he was gone for a month for work. He put me in charge of their finances while he was gone. I had to tell her every week how much she was allowed to spend. Pretty sad when your 14 year old is more self disciples than her mom!

I don’t like when my daddy Dave does this. Dave does not hold most of his female callers accountable. He drags the husbands. I am a woman. I advocate for women but honestly , this woman needs to do better , take financial peace classes and manage her money. She also appears to not know her worth. Why is she going Dutch/ 50/50 with her pharmacist husband who earns twice her income? She is a spender, spends everything that comes in, shopping on Amazon every day, ordering , I can imagine the number of recycled boxes. Ups, FedEx, DHL , the pst office are tired delivering packages. She gets the most packages delivered in her neighborhood. I don’t blame her husband for keeping finances separately. I don’t like what some women do this. They agree to 50/50 knowing their husbands earn more. When they are unable to pay a bill, they call Dave to make their husbands look bad. Sister woman to woman , stop all that shopping. Go and take those classes and talk to your husband. Apologize for not managing your money and start combining finances. Why are you eating out five days a week when you can cook at home? Don’t be a lazy woman. Cook for the family. You husband is not abusing you to justify your cooking strike. Live your wage sister. You have a good husband to me. Put your acts together before you lose this good man.

When money is the issue... you need a budget. The hard part is to convince both parties to use it... not that simple. And some people are just to hard headed and will never change. Others may change, but it is doubtful. Then there are savers... like me and my wife who will probably never budget, we don't go out to often (1 x week cause we can afford it) and we use credit cards and pay our bills on time. We are at the stage of our life where we are trying to build wealth.

@@acausevic1 buraz I've saying this for ever, no matter what the wife does Dave is on her side. It's always husband's fault. Dave blames the husbands for not doing more, not having a second or a third job or changing careers to bring more money while every time the wife is the one who is a stay at home mom, doing absolutely nothing while complaining that they don't have money. Dave is extremely biased in favor of wifes staying home.

Well they basically shit on him for getting out of debt and preparing for his future. They never asked what her debt was, or how much. She still has it pretty easy, only having to pay for half of her living expenses. I bet it would be hard to just all the sudden have trust in a partner, after years and years of horrible spending habits, and terrible life choices. She’s probably racked up thousands of consumer debt because she doesn’t have any discipline with money. And now because she’s feeling the noose of those choices, and read a book on money. He’s supposed to just trust her and pretend it didn’t happen.
@RegalRealEstateLLC
@RegalRealEstateLLC Жыл бұрын
Yep. They coddled this spendthrift lady who is not giving the whole story. She's hiding the details. My guess, is this. He still loves her so he asked her to pay a proportionate amount based on their combined income. Let's say she make 25% of the total income so pays 25% of all bills. She is paying 25% of the bills and spends the rest of her money because she is a spendthrift. She has no money left at the end of the month. If they had combined finances, like Dave and daughter suggest, she would spend all of their money and they would BOTH be broke and he would have no loans paid off.

It's one, albeit major, pragmatic concern that doesn't have much to do with why people fall in love but often has a lot to do with why they fall apart. So I would say the points of being together still exist and should motivate fixing this so it's not the point of divorce.
