In this clip from our 2016 session 'Let Them Eat Meat: There is Nothing Wrong With Rearing and Killing Animals for Human Consumption,' the late journalist A.A. Gill defends his choice to follow a meat-based diet in opposition to veganism. Is a "meat-based" diet really that bad compared to a "plant-based" one? Leave your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!

Was this supposed to be a serious argument for meat eaters?

When a Ted Talk-type speech begins with "I'm a Libertarian," that's effectively a disclaimer that all arguments that follow will reject ethics and morality and instead will be based on self-satisfaction and self-indulgence at the cost of all others. It's a useful disclaimer so that audiences can understand that the foundation of the argument is "more for me, less for you, and any harm I cause doesn't matter to me" and determine for themselves whether or not that's a foundation they embrace.

very good. A libertarian is always someone that was or had a silver spoon in their mouth.

Interesting how you make that assumption in relation to a group that aims for minimal government intervention and maximal focus on the individual. Rights, worth, purpose, all based on the individ, not any label or group it might be related to.

My issue has and always will be food waste. To much of our collective diets end up in the trash instead of the toilet.

Amazing. The same terrible arguments and logical fallacies I've heard a million times, but with slightly different phrasing.

AA Gill once said "A beard is no substitute for thinking", & there are so many 'beards' around.

I'm vegetarian/vegan most days, and occasionally have fish -- sometimes not for many months, sometimes several times per month. Where does this man get the idea that "we" are trying to tell anyone else what to do?

I don't mind A.A. Gill - though the best thing about this video is how much George Monbiot looks to be enjoying it

Hahaha, the vegans go crazyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :-D Funniest part is, he is right. There are no wild cows anymore, there are some kind of cow that walks around in the woods and the dunes, they are being called Scottish Highland cows and they didn't walk out of the Scottish Highlands to the dunes near The Hague. Chickens? If you put a chicken out in the open in the woods, he/she is dead within 24 hours. Eaten by a fox or a wolf (and in other countries by an eagle or a bear). But, instead of being extinct, the cow and the chicken live on. How and why?! Because a cow can give milk and make excellent burgers while chickens lay eggs and their breast tastes absolutely delicious. So amazingly delicious that they even make roaster chicken flavored potato chips....Yet, if you can't stand the heat, then get TF out of my kitchen :-D
