Hey everybody and IGP! Ryan here, the solo developer of the game. As always, It's an honor that you play my game and I am always looking forward to your video! Thank you so much, you're amazing as always. I just love the style of all your videos and I really really appreciate it that I am included in that. Thank you, really from my heart - just means so much to me man! ❤ The game is still in early access - I understand there is some issues (Grammer, etc) and some other which I will be fixing in a patch soon altogether but if anyone have any suggestions or feedback regarding the game do let me know. I currently have some plans for it before it fully release, and I love involving the community! I will try to do my best to improve it so every little bit helps a lot! I really do appreciate everything. Thank you so much everybody for all your comments and thank you all for your support! You are all amazing people 💙 P.S: The part where there was "Where we are going, you won't need eyes to see" underneath it will say "IGP" haha :( Thanks again for everything and have a good day! 💙

Typically horror games - though I enjoy them immensely - don't really scare me, but there is something so essentially terrifying about not being able to fully rely on your sense of sight that makes the overall experience so unnerving. You've taken the "LIDAR horror" concept to another level, and done a fantastic job of crafting a truly visceral and eerie experience.

I imagine the game’s basic theme is sensory deprivation, or rather, the extensive limitation of the visual sense, adds to the tension. The fact that the only manner to obtain some form of visual coherence is through the lidar range finder, it definitely made me feel so uncomfortable, anticipating a visual anomaly that may or may not happen. And the the use of sound definitely terrified me, tbh I find it to be eerily comforting, and its absence just makes one’s heart sink. Absolutely loved it. A film with the same concept would be very badass.

kept asking why we put structures and statues on that planet, and never once considered that it's an alien planet they recently discovered. They didn't build that stuff, something else did. How are you going to build in an environment you can't even see light in?
@tigressjinx Жыл бұрын
So IGP's surprise at being able to see previously scanned areas through walls made me think people might like an explanation about this technology. It's pretty common for LiDAR games to use the metaphor "painting the environment" to describe gameplay, but your character isn't physically marking anything. LiDAR stands for Light Detection And Ranging. The scanner shoots a laser and measures how long it takes to reflect back. Because light has a fixed speed, how long it takes to come back tells you exactly how far away the point it hit was. Shoot the laser at a bunch of different points and you can build a point cloud! Each point has an x, y and z value (basically forwards/backwards, left/right and up/down relative to a fixed point). If you want a DEM (digital elevation model) of the countryside, you mount a LiDAR scanner underneath a plane, fly it at back and forth while scanning the ground, and each point it captures has latitude, longitude and height above sea level recorded. If you want a 3D model of a room, you use a handheld scanner (such as a newer iphone) and the device's accelerometer keeps track of how you're moving it, so that each point's xyz values are consistent relative to each other. Then you feed this point cloud into visualisation software, which maps out all those points according to their xyz values, building your 3D model. The character in the game is basically walking around in a VR headset displaying that 3D model in realtime! If the in-game scanner can't see part of a wall, like when IGP hasn't gone fully around the corner, then it doesn't have any points recorded to block his view of a different part of the 3D model once he moves further. We can intuitively tell there's probably a solid wall there, but the visualisation software isn't trying to look real, it's just showing us all the points. Something nifty about this game is that it makes in-game sense that Francesca can see the point cloud generated by the handheld scanner - she's already wearing a spacesuit, and given the specialised mission they were on, of course their helmets would have the necessary VR tech already built in. I'm not sure what kind of onboard processing power you'd need for a handheld scanner and VR headset to be able to map the point cloud instantaneously, but given the scanning isn't particularly dense this honestly seems pretty realistic. The dimension where lasers work but flashlights don't notwithstanding 😉

Sad the audio is not synced makes this unwatchable
@buffcode Жыл бұрын
The thing that gets me is stuff like tables disappearing, if you're surface mapping then stationary points would presumably just stay there, unless set to remove certain points- but if a world is completely dark, all that having an algorithm to remove stuff like tables from the scan would do is cause injury. No insurance would cover an expedition with designers that stupid- and it thus wouldn't happen.
@tigressjinx Жыл бұрын
@@buffcode things disappearing at different rates bothered me too, but I can see the value in having a set lifespan for points in general. Since things in the environment can move, you need some way to refresh the data to reflect changes but the lack of density in scanning makes it difficult to algorithmically decide which points to remove on rescan. Plus just generally I'd expect humans to be more likely to rescan an area that's gone blank than to rescan an area that still looks "solid." The way it could tell different solids apart was pretty unrealistic but probably made for better gameplay.
@buffcode Жыл бұрын
@@tigressjinx You can actually tell solids' types apart rather well by how they react to lasers, so I'll let that slide since it's far-future hubaloo (see: Raman spectroscopy). But on the point of lifespan for points, generally the safest bet for a truly all dark environment would be to update them only as the room was rescanned. Would also allow caching your results on local storage and using them again, which would save you time and memory processing power, like with rendering anything that uses references in cache. Not to mention the benefits of being able to see changes as they're recorded by having the cache keep old files and only update when changes occur, rather than needing notes or word of mouth. Could always have a passive always-on "area" scanner to make things even safer, even now those are available so the handheld scanner gun and turret is kind of eh. Not anything we'd ever need in super future tech land. But alas, tos the curse of sci fi horror - they either under, or over, estimate the tech.
@tigressjinx Жыл бұрын
@Nic Parker ah that's very interesting about Raman spectroscopy! I only deal with geospatial data (just tangentially, I'm no expert) so I didn't realise we could do something like that! You make a good point about passive scanning, I suppose I'm trying a little too hard to rationalise the game 😋

Unfortunately I'm at work rn and can't watch it. But I'm probably gonna watch it with my siblings later. They have recently started watching your gameplays, too. Me and my brother love your snow runner vids. The one where you were stuck on icy had us dead. It's always funny to see icy get frustrated and angry. 😏🤣

The scariest thing that happens in the video is every time he screams. it isnt the game that scares me, it is Igp's reactions.

This was done by ONE person? Im sure that its heavily market assets and stuff, but still, this is SUPER impressive work for one guy

I get the impression he doesn't really use market assets, but develops some himself and otherwise has a lot of help from other artists.

That was so unsettling! I...just can't. That actually started causing a mild claustrophobia. Going through the Void section. Geez! Sensation of no escape.

Ikr? This and Scanner Sombre give me unique heebies jeebies that I just can't cope, it's genuinely haunting my mind.

@@EvoFTG Only Debris and Narcosis are worse. I actually couldn't finish Narcosis. I knew deep oceans and enclosed ocean caves made me uncomfortable. I didn't realize it would turn into Bathophobia.

That screwdriver would be used so fast on my neck the moment I see anything moving. Very handy

Just imagine for a minute being stuck in an area thats completely dark. Where you only have a scanner to rely on, you're not familiar with the surroundings by having a mental image, all while being stalked by an unknown entity. And I mean actually imagine it. Its so creepy that its almost impossible to picture it
