The fact that all three thugs paid close enough attention to what the old guy said and how he reacted after seeing that tattoo shows that the thugs have a little bit of intelligence to recognize that they were in a bad situation. Their full cooperation was clearly their only option.

Lots of questions but haven't seen a comment about this outside replies. That tattoo is seen as an unwinnable hand in poker. It's given to soldiers, typically special forces, who were sent on an impossible mission and managed to survive. That's why the vet specifically recognized it.

Yeah it was not believeable when scrawny little Odenkirk beats up a group of big solid Russian thugs on a bus. But for the rest of the movie he pulls off a decent investigation/revenge plot. Fantastic actor, but he should havd hit the gym for 3 or 4 months first to really play the part. Being a great actor alone is not enough when your physical presense looks weak and you do fight scenes

One of my favorite things about this scene is how quickly the room shifts. As soon as the one guy realizes who Hutch is and the rest of them see his reaction, they immediately understand this is not someone you want to fuck with.

I loved how hutch just realized that they were just desperate people that made a bad decision and was upset that he couldn't kick someones butt. I like it when writers are creative enough to have a seen show how dangerous someone is without having to explain it. That said Wicks showed how to properly explain a dangerous character as a setup, so I don't want to sound like I'm dissing explanations, just think they are over used.
