It feels like the early days of the app, but can easily become just as toxic. ‘Influencers’ always doing something crazy or showing off. People constantly paranoid if their BeReal notification arrives (esp any younger users). In a few months the discover page could easily become exactly what the app strived to avoid. It just feels like another app that will go into peoples rotation of insta, twitter etc. I hope it works out but I don’t have any faith in any tech company right now

It is another way of big corporate collecting data. It is like sampling of data in random time in biology class.

I feel like the inverse of authenticity will happen with Be real, because instead of spending a couple days to get dolled up for a nice Instagram post or TikTok video, now you'll have to be READY EVERY DAY AT ALL TIMES, to post a good looking be-real. It basically turns into real life + extra layer of performance anxiety.
@notdashes2 жыл бұрын
Nah bro I think its gonna be more toxic if anything. The fact that people care about how they are percieved online isn't gonna change with a new feature. They are still gonna feel like shit if they dont have anything going on in their life taking pics of their dog compared to someone else who may be living it up.

I think everyone trying to put their best face online makes some people take themself too seriously (myself included). so i think having an app like this that shows the "less pretty" or "boring" ends of our lives might keep us more grounded in who we are and each other. not everyday is the most productive, and social, and fun day ever. everyone's got a day where they're just laying in bed 90% of the time. BeReal has a very interesting concept and I'm gonna have to try it.

I've viewed the same problems with it. When I first heard that it automatically sends you a notification to use a social media, I thought it was sus and didn't want to download it. But after I actually downloaded and started using it, I actually think there's potential for it to be healthy.

My wishlist for BeReal: - Fix the bugs and (what I assume are) server issues - Add comments & location to the memories - Give me the option to back up my memories because I don't trust the app to last forever
@Binbingolollilojhsw2 жыл бұрын
I see that it has potential to be healthy but people think that this will get rid of fake faces or body’s but that’s not the case as long as the person knows how to pose the face and body it will have the same effect! But I feel like this has much potential

I don't see it ever taking off, most people rearly post and only use social media for entertainment. They will very quickly get bored of pictures of someone doing nothing. Plus the whole get a notification at a random time then make a photo sounds like a huge inconvenience

It already has taken off in my extended circle of friends who do very consistently bereal on time everyday. Maybe that's just me though and I'm in a minority so I perceive the app as much more popular than it is so far
@keroppifrog6332 жыл бұрын
Good point. And most people just get these apps to keep up with trends or, and this is true, be a bit like 'look at me and my life and how pretty I am'
@Sirkento2 жыл бұрын
I mostly agree with what you said about the discovery tab. I would assume the real purpose of it is to show you other people not just your friends are having very real lives. But in order for it to be useful for the purpose of the app it needs to be a random selection and have no way for you to follow or add friends through it. The problem is all they have to do is take a picture of them holding up a card with their social media contact. But at least if they don't put any algorithms in it they won't be able to reach a target audience or anything like that and I imagine they'll make it a bannable offense to try to link contact information of any kind. So if they can avoid the temptation to be bought out by one of the social media Giants then this could be really healthy for people. But it's hard for any of us average citizens with a good idea to turn down an offer for several million dollars to be set for the rest of our lives at almost any cost.

Damn just one year older and same. I used MySpace then in middle school people switched over to Facebook and it felt like it was everything but my sophomore year snap and ig was it.

I use Snapchat more than texting tbh. It’s easier to send photos and texting just feels slow for some reason
@maxsadler1172 жыл бұрын
I think the Discovery Tab is not a bad thing, even if it may seem like that. Because there is no algorithm of any kind in lace, you actually just see random posts over there which, in my opinion, doesn't encourage any Content creators but rather you see the lives of other people and how boring or ordinary they can be. And this is, in my opinion, one of the most healthy things there are.

Everyone I know still uses snapchat and i think it's amazing. It's not confusing at all and It's just great. I love it! I can see what everyone is doing. People are posting random stuff they're doing and they don't fake anything and you can chose who can see what also so I think snapchat is the best app. And random people you don't know can't see it

Honestly i think companies should be asked what they're gonna do with the data. You provide them with a lot of pictures and in 2-3 years they start selling your information, would you like that? This is the reason i have a fb account, but barely post anything on it, just added some groups and that's it. Until someone will tell me that they'll not use the pictures/location/anything from my account i'll not start posting anything anywhere, neither inside or outside of the business. I can send pictures via whatsapp/private links to whoever i want. Trust me that today people can build applications without needing a cent to mantain/market it for hundreds of years, but people want to make money, this is the end goal of any app. Not solving issues, but solve an issue and ask for money somehow, either through your innocence or directly.

Honestly with my personal experience instagram has done well for me, all I do is post pictures of cool things I like, I don’t care how many likes it gets or who sees it. My account only follows artists and friends and I find it a lot easier to only see the content related to what I like and what I chose to find. I deleted tik tok probably about a year ago and nothing has ever felt better it’s so unfiltered and unregulated, the topics talked about on that platform are outrageous and ever since I deleted the app and people have showed me videos I realized just how dumb a majority of the humor is on tik tok and how much higher my attention span is now that I’m off it.
@zero-yv7hd2 жыл бұрын
Instagram definitely is very flawed I remember being a kid and being jealous of some of the people on there. Now that I’m grown and older I honestly don’t even see those same posts anymore, as soon as I changed my followers/following and interacted with things I wanted to see i haven’t had a problem with unwanted content which is not the case with tik tok definitely my most hated app lol I just never thought that the changes it would make to me would be so drastic. I think instagram works best if you use it as a very personal app.

Agree. Instagram is the way I track my life. I dont' want a phoen full of images or a cloud of 250+ gb of photos. I can easily scroll through and see what my life was like a year ago and read my thoughts. I don't have to scroll through 30 copies of the same image on my phone. Anything worthy and of note goes on insta. Likes arent' important. Anyone that cares to see where im at and what Im doing can check out insta. FB and insta are the last social apps i'll ever use.

The number 1 reason why I’ve stopped using most social media is because it’s so overwhelming & overstimulating, BeReal seems like it could be the solution but I agree that discover page is sus & almost deters me from even trying it.

I'm worried about how they are going to monitize this app. Since it is mainly meant for only close friends the app wouldn't really be able to have ads embedded because everyone is on for like 10 minutes each day maximum after they've posted their "BeReal" for the day.

I don't have BeReal, but it seems....kinda sketchy. Like, it's not a social media, but it IS and...it's weird. I guess it sorta seems safer than some other social medias and is very private but the fact it says you almost HAVE to post once a day is pressurised almost. If they're trying to solve the problem, why put out this message? Idk, I'm really torn between on its side, and not on its side. I think it's a good way to try out something new. But is it just a fad to keep up with your friends? Probably. Seems kinda fun, still

Also...people addicted to this will start living their lives for the notification and trying to be living a life that is interesting all the time. Creating hyper interesting , fake, lives. This app is just another insta. It'll soon end up as another creator app. because this generates money and that's what all apps rely on. Content creators, influencers, marketing money. And none of that comes from 'being real'
@nicoledonald38582 жыл бұрын
be real it's just another unhealthy app. I think in the end of the day, Instagram it's still the safest
