You can increase your metal yield by lowering the magnet closer to the discharge conveyor and running the spoils a second pass....it is a learning curve for sure.

In the computer you can set where every 5 minutes or so it’ll run the rotors backwards for 30 seconds automatically. Whenever you’re running material really stringy like the steel cords in tires it really helps to run the rotors backwards for a extended period every so often to unwrap the cords and free up material that is just robbing power and productivity.

So I've worked on these machines before on the engine side. From several different brands in fact. For that matter I'm pretty sure I've met the Rotochopper salesman that was out during start up of this machine a few times before. But in regards to the torque output of these machines. I was working on a Lindner brand machine once, with a CAT C-18, and I asked their service manager what the torque output was on their gear box. I was told that for the machine I was on, which is about twice the size of the 75 dk, it was somewhere around 350,000 lb ft if I can recall. I also love your attitude of trying to think far ahead instead of being reactionary.

You may want to shred tires on a rainy day. Just a little water will make the tires easier to eat. The rubber has less traction on the rotor blades. I used to work at a Goodyear store. We had to cut the junk tires. We would use a little water on the cutter blades to make it easier.

For years used tires have been a big 'PITA', these machines have solved that problem to a degree. Start-up looked simple, initially l thought you may have to employ a rocket scientist. As for the alloy rims you may need to set up a tire machine nearby and remove them to be recycled, but you already know that. Interesting video, keep up the good work.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Really interesting video. Can’t help but think you might get more metal out by sending the load thru again with a slightly lower conveyor feed. I remember reading a story about the development of metal shredders, they knew they had a problem when they got more metal out than they fed in. Apparently it was feeding on itself. Pondering if there is any advantage to run existing land fill thru a shredder to reduce it more. Wishing you and your family the best.

Thats been pretty much a feature of Tub Grinders or Horizontal Grinders for a long time. Except with a tub grinder you need to be situated on the opposite side to downward rotation of the grinder mill. You may ask why ?? Well a Tub Grinder can throw a tooth out and if your on the downward side of rotation you can be killed if a tooth that weighs quite a lot comes thru the window of your excavator, forget about bars on the windows , I had a client who was grinding with a tub and a tooth went straight thru the bars and hit him in the chest. Ambulance trip to hospital for a few days.

@clydeacor1911
@clydeacor1911 14 күн бұрын
At our yard we take the rims off first, you're losing 100% of your aluminum and just from looking at your steel pile and all of the steel wheels you put in I'd say that you're losing 90% of your clean prepared steel. We separate the tires from the wheels by using either a mini excavator with a thumb or a big 320 excavator with a thumb, it peels the tires right off and can easily do close to 1,000 per day. As strong as the cables are in the tires those rims are sucking a lot of power and slowing your shredding production down quite a bit.

Here in Australia we use these shredders to shred mattresses, cushions, couches etc and the product is called flok, which the landfill will then use on the turn pad when it taints to soak of moisture and allows trucks to move without getting stuck, then just take a skim off when the places dries up and you are good to go, plus as one landfill operator to another, mattresses suck ASS to pack!

The total surface area of tyre chips or crumb particles may also be large compared with the volume occupied. The combination of permeability to air-flow and a high exposed surface area means that that a combustible material such as rubber is potentially susceptible to spontaneous combustion.

I'll weigh in with some calculations on size reduction. A 16-inch auto tire is approximately 32" in diameter x 8" thick. (3.72 cu ft.) Of course because they're round they won't fit perfectly tight against each other in the roll-off. A 32" square that is 8" thick is 4.74 cu ft. I averaged them together to get 4.23 cu ft. A 20 yard dumpster is 540 cu ft. I'm guessing that approximately 128 tires would fit in a 20-yard dumpster. *Should have had Aaron count how many tires that monster had for lunch, when the bin was finally full! Awesome machine!

Thats a pretty awesome machine! I know you guys can only do so much to recycle, but I'd recommend separating all the tires with aluminum wheels in the future. The magnet isn't going to separate out anything but steel/iron. So all that aluminum is just going to end up in the landfill.

You would think that would be obvious, right? I don't understand how they don't see that!

There are "Eddy Current Inducers" that allow to separate the aluminium the same way as the steel, might be worth looking into it considering the higher price of aluminium

here in the Netherlands they mined the burned ashes from a garbish plant and earned more on value of steel, copper, silver, gold from running it.

Those cutters seem to have a large surface area to them for brute force for general material. I believe you can change them out to have a smaller surface area for a more tailored knife like shear cutting which would slice through rubber better and make smaller pieces. Understand this is just a demo unit but they can be tailored more to a specific product.

You're exactly right. The cutters that are in there now are way too big for what he's trying to shred. And another thing....they're overloading the hopper with too many tires at once. Those cutters aren't designed to shred (into small pieces).

Need to get a screening bottom plate for 1 or 2 inch minus. To drastically reduce output size and increase metal recovery for recycling. Still can sell final material to companies for energy

Can the belt speed going to the dumpster be turned down and the magnet be lowered down closer to the belt so you can recover more of the steel

Is it not worth separating out the tyres with aluminium rims & cutting the tyres off for the rims' scrap value?

Wet rubber cuts faster than dry. Consider some water mist spraying into the grinding chamber.

At the landfill you pay per ton. Is the landfill so far away that you can cut on transport cost by reducing volume?
