My wife and I recently bought a 2020 Bolt EV. I was really nervous about it, afraid it would upset our life, fearing range anxiety. In the end, it is truly an amazing car. We think nothing of driving to a city 2 hours away and drive around and then drive back home without having to charge it. 99% of our charging is done at home. My wife loves not having to take it to a gas station and she also loves the fact it has actual knobs. It does not take a scientist to drive it, it is a very nice car. We recently went on a longer trip and tried out the DC Fast Charger, and that was a good experience. The last 3 weeks here in Michigan have been around 0 F, yeah very cold. The car is amazing, we drive more now than we did before, it is so fun to drive. Ice, snow, cold, wind, we have been in it all and the car has done amazingly well. We don't think of it so much as an EV, it is our car and we love it. Great job GM.

The Kona is also a very nice car. I hate when people complain about hard plastics. As a reviewer who is complaining about cheap materials in economy cars you are driving up the prices. 13:50 I see what you did there I own a 2019 Bolt and I echo most of your complaints about the car. The biggest reason my partner and I purchased it is because we got a fully loaded Premier for way less than $30k. The seats are a huge problem for me. I have an unusually long torso and the top of the seat pushes my shoulders forward. It's not uncomfortable at all for about an hour, but after than it becomes really uncomfortable. The lack of radar cruise and a sunroof is odd for sure, but this is a car that was built to a price because I believe Chevy thought it was the only way to sell it. As you said, in 2017, nobody made a long range EV at this price point. Now, they have some competition from Hyundai/Kia, Tesla is trying to make cheaper options, and a feeble attempt at competition from Nissan, so it makes the Bolt look a little outdated in design even though the drivetrain still holds its own. One thing to keep in mind about styling is that there are many more people outside if the US than in it. This car is sold all over the place and many other markets prefer EVs more than us. A smaller, narrower car with lots of interior space is ideal in many other parts of the world. One criticism that I have about car reviews in general is the weight that is put on the feel of materials that no buyer ever touches or would even care about if car reviewers didn't pick on it. How often do you touch the top of the dash in your car or the lower half of the door panel? These are areas that are built to with durable but inexpensive materials specifically because nobody cares about those spots, except for car reviewers looking to pick on something. It is a constant criticism that I hear on just about any review of a vehicle costing less than $50k and its really a pointless thing to complain about.
@corionh47754 жыл бұрын
Agree about the interior materials... I couldn't care less about a soft-touch dashboard or lower door panels smh he didn't even show the "jagged" materials he mentioned, but they were probably barely in the line of anybody's sight. I leased a 2020 Bolt Premiere in late January. With discounts, it came out to about $28k. I like the height because it makes it easier to get in and out and visibility is better. The width is fine as it is easier to park and makes more room in my car. The seats are not terrible and may be a bit better than the Chevy Volt I had before. I don’t miss the adaptive cruise control because it had not been installed on any other car I have driven so you can’t miss what you never had. I like the cameras which are high definition. Visibility is good, especially with the rear view mirror camera which had a very wide angle. Styling may be bland but is no worse than other GM models such as the Chevy Trax. I live in a cold climate state so range in cold weather is in the low 200’s. Weather is improving but still cool and today my guess o meter gave a range of about 245 miles. Due to the virus, I have only driven about 500 miles in the last two months because there is nowhere to go. Still, it is fun to drive and I like this car. However, if they still made the Chevy Volt, I would have gotten another one of those.

The stock charger is an L1/L2, they just didn't include the adapter to plug it in to a 240v outlet. The stock charger with the BoltEV is a Clipper Creek Amazing-E which is a switching unit. All you have to do is buy or have made a pigtail that lets you plug the OEM EVSE into whatever 240v outlet you have.

It's not affordable, it's subsidized. If not for carbon credits, GM would never develop such a vehicle.

And if not for climate change the government won't be subsidizing BEV, so what
@anthonyc84994 жыл бұрын
As the review points out, no more Federal tax credit and it's a $25k-30k car now, despite the MSRP.
@jerryortiz9094 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyc8499 Carbon credits are not tax credits. Tesla receives billions of dollars in carbon credits through cap and trade, which raises the cost of normal cars. Search how cap and trade works. Tesla has received $2 billion just from FCA alone from the European cap and trade program, and they get billions more from other manufacturers in other markets. It's enough to completely wipe away Tesla's debt.

Just bought the 2020 Bolt EV Premier for my wife because she absolutely LOVED the driver and front passenger seats. We both hated the rear seats. It’s not a luxury car. Wasn’t designed to be one. It’s a family car, built like it was so kids and be in it and not destroy it - have you seen how easily kids destroy their toys? Yeah, built to take that. For luxury get the double-the-price Tesla 3 (good luck getting it below $35k). I’ll keep the Bolt. Neighbor has the Tesla and fit/finish on it sucks. But it does have some super cool tech and that fast charging is to die for. Our Bolt has DCFC, but no stations near us offer it, so we just charge overnight once a week and she’s good to go for another week.

I agree with all of your points you made on the Bolt. For that reason, I went with one of the last 2019 Volt Premiers I could find. Really hoping the next-gen Bolt has a more SUV-like form factor, all LED lighting, better interior seats/interior. Also hoping for closing to 300 miles of range with a price in the mid/high 30's. We'll see! Until then I'm very happy with my Volt until I can go full EV once something catches my attention more.

I’m looking at this 2020 because I will now have a 180 round trip commute 6 days a week. That’s the problem of having three businesses in different locations that all need my help lol. So seeing this car is actually great for my budget and my needs to have a small city car.

Actually that storage area in front of the shifter is great for storing a purse. The Mz uses it and it's big enough to fit it but not so big it slides around, plus she can get to it pretty easily.. This is a *huge* improvement over most cars in her opinion. Others have used it for takeout or a small shopping bag.

To clear up on the matter of the empty buttons, in Europe some of the buttons on the steering wheel are now allowed. Thus GM moves them down to where those blanks are. It still would be nice to find a way to add custom switches to those blanks at some point

Actually... demand for the Chevy Bolt is was pretty high in late 2018 - early 2020. "Demand for the Chevrolet Bolt EV, especially in the United States, Canada and South Korea, has outstripped production." -- GM The whole COVID-19 thing though has slowed things back down though across the industry. Bolt's aren't selling as fast as Tesla's obviously, but it isn't *that* dire. I was seeing 3-4 Bolt's during my commute daily in Austin. That might be just because Austin though ;-)
