Fun Fact: Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have both revealed in interviews that they both had crush on each other during the making of this film. However they have never acted on it due to timing, one or the other would always be in a relationship. To this day they remain the closest of friends. I wish they do more movies in the future.

In the original draft Harry was the man who put the bomb on the bus. He was forced to retire after Jack shot him in the leg, and Denis Hopper's character died in the opening. When Sandy B and Keanu were doing the promotion circuit before the movie was released, Sandy B was on Ellen and Ellen asked her if She and Keanu dated. She replied that they had not but that she had a major crush on him throughout the filming. Keanu was on another talk show a few days later and the host of that talk show played back that part of Sandy B's interview for Keanu to see and then asked Keanu if he knew that Sandy B had been crushing on him. His reply was that he had no idea until just now but that he had been crushing on Sandy B as well during the filming. Unfortunately, neither one of them realized that and they were both too professional to let those feelings possibly risk the chemistry between them that the movie really required.

This is my favorite story about this movie. There's a chance that no one sees it and that's fine. I kinda just wanna share. My dad took me to see this movie in the theaters. To this day I'm not sure what happened to the film, but somehow it burned up right as the elevator drops. Boom. Movie over. The theater had to issue refunds and ticket passes to see a free movie another night. Even with that my dad was still pissed off that we only saw 10 minutes of the movie. Unless the movie was dirt cheap my dad would rather rent movies or buy blank tapes and record them off of cable channels than buy movies new. He bought Speed on VHS the opening week. He still has that tape in his VHS collection by the TV. It's one of my favorite movies to this day. Also I have it on Blu-Ray with a special Deadpool slipcase promoting Deadpool 2.

Supposedly, when Sandra tells Ortis to get behind the yellow line on the bus, it was improved by Bullock herself.

If you guys haven't already seen it, another suggestion for a great action movie with an amazing cast is the 2004 movie "Cellular", which stars Chris Evans, Jason Statham, William H. Macy, and Kim Basinger.

When the guys in the bus start bickering and Keanu’s face looks so annoyed for just a second, I could suddenly so relate from driving my twins places.

I agree Keanu has great acting moments in many films, ppl just hear the tone of his voice and hey distracted by it and think he is all “dude” only. I really love some parts of Matrix Resurrections for his performance. Also when I realised the composer for SPEED also did Bad Boys 1 and that’s why their main themes have the same feel really made the universe make sense.

I think Sandy did 'A Time To Kill' around this time too. Her role was small compared to the leads but she got a lot of praise for that performance. If you havent seen some of her lesser known films you gotta check out: While You Were Sleeping 28 Days (Personally I think this is the best performance of her career) Devine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood and Hope Floats

There were at least two missions in GTA games inspired by this movie. Literal bus in the very first game and a limo drive in GTA Vice City. Also, reportedly, Keanu Reeves made the jump from car into bus by himself, no stunts.
