Fun Fact : Eminem didn't attend the Oscars to accept his Best Original Song win because he didn't think he had any chance in winning as he didn't know that a song could win an Oscar. Plus, apparently he also spent more time at home watching cartoons with his daughter when the Oscars took place. So that's nice for him Glad that he finally performed the song 18 years later at the 2020 Oscars. So proud of him 🙌

He’s such a down to earth humble person from what I can see. I grew up as poor as him, like super poor. Bad alcoholic mom and step DADS. Yes step DADS. And it was bad. I joined the Army and thankfully I’m doing okay now. Yet I can definitely see why he’s so humble and all that. His daughter runs a great podcast as well. Dude is a great father.

@@Knightowl1980 Eminem doesn't really care about award shows and the Oscars was something very new to him. He thought that show was strictly for actors and yet he's rapper who made a song for his own movie so it's quite understandable why he didn't think he was going to win as he's not an actor and he didn't know that songs could win an Oscar too

@@Fl0k5ser If his song was nominated as Best Original Song, how could he not know a song could win an Oscar? Not arguing with you but it makes no sense. I do, however, believe he possibly didn't believe he had a chance of winning.

Fun fact: Eminem approached Anthony Mackie before shooting the final rap battle, to get material from him (Mackie was unaware of the intentions). He told him a few things including how he attended NC School of the Arts. Mackie was hoping his character would get a chance to respond once the battle went down and got a "nah, its good like this" response. 😂

Eminem was about 29 years old when he made this movie. Though it depicts parts of his life from a few years younger than that. A lot of tis movie was inspired by the events of his real life. From the poverty, mother with addiction problems, and no father. This was Anthony Mackie's first movie role. In the battle at the end, Eminem actually looked up facts about Mackie's childhood before they shot the piece. So the look of surprise on Mackie's face was complete genuine. Future's character was inspired by Proof in real life. Proof was the one that fully believed in Eminem and always pushed him.

When Rabbit looks at Bob after he asks him if he’s ready to hear what Papa Doc would say about Alex and stuff, I believe he‘s not mad or upset, it’s the moment he realizes what to do. That if he goes first, he has the opportunity to take the wind out of the sails of anything Papa Doc might throw at him by saying them before he can. And it worked.

So, all the verses in the final batch of battles, Eminem wrote. But, there was originally supposed to be a montage under music of him beating other rappers working his way up to Free World. So they basically just asked who in the crowd wanted to be part of the montage, and let them come up and do a verse, then Em would mime a response without saying anything because they fimed that sequence while he was on tour (he'd do a show, then fly out to film, then go back to do the next show), and he wanted to save his voice. Then one rapper went up there, and her verse was so good that he decided he had to actually respond. Then the whole thing became an impromtu actual rap battle with people challenging him. So there's a compilation of those battles out there that are all actual on the fly raps.

I love this movie so much as one of the best rap movies out here along with Hustle & Flow. Fun facts: • The sheet of paper that Jimmy writes on on the bus is the real sheet that Eminem wrote "Lose Yourself" on. The sheet of paper sold for $10,000 on eBay. • Eminem was unable to accept his Academy Award in person. He felt so sure another nominee would win that he did not bother to attend the ceremony. Instead he was sleeping, while his daughter watched cartoons the night he won. • Eminem lost 24 pounds for the role. He also has stated in interviews that he was not playing himself • The film cast two Academy Award winners: Eminem and Kim Basinger; and one Oscar nominee: Michael Shannon. With a $51 million opening weekend, at the time this was the second biggest debut for an R-rated movie. • In the original script, Jimmy worked at a hotel carrying people's bags and had issues with his boss.

This movie was like a light version of what he really went through before he signed with Dre. IRL yes his home was abusive and toxic, he had a little brother who was taken to foster care but Em raised him as soon as he was able financially. He also adopted his niece (Kim's twin sister's daughter), they then had Hailie and much later he also adopted Kim's daughter from another relationship. The man is remarkable. His friends in the movie are a mixture of his D12 friends as Mr. Porter himself has mentioned in an interview, for example Em created Future's character based on Proof and Mr. Porter and so on with the rest. Not only a Legend in music but also a very unique human being.

What I always liked about this movie was the fact that it ended right before any other biopic would take off. According to lore, it wasn't too long after this that Em left to LA and got signed by Dre. To me it just makes the story that much more powerful. We know where it ends. We know he finds success. But the fact that it speaks to his resilence and the resilence of any person who has a dream and is willing to fight for it. That makes it incredibly isnpirational. I love that.

Fun Fact about 1:05:10 In 8 Mile : Before they Filmed The final rap Battle Eminem Told Anthony Mackie if he Can actually search Him Up In Google Wich He Obviously did And Got To learn Alot More About His Real Life Info and That is Why He Wasn't just roasting His Character Papa Doc But at the same Time He Also cooked Anthony mackie In that Scene Wich Is Why It remains the Best Thing About this movie.😂👌

Google didn't become available to the public until 2 years after this movie came out. Em just asked Anthony for some personal information about him which he then used for his freestyle against him.

@Zoidd_Bergg Yeah I Aggre As Google Might've not existed During that Time But Still Quite Wild The fact Eminem Managed To Learn Even More About Him and Use Those Personal Info As A Disstrack On Anthony while He Was Papa Doc Even Tho It Was About Him and not Just the Character indeed.

@charg1nmalaz0r51 Technically Mate how Can Both Of Us Be having False Info About this (Yeah He Was right Google Didn't Exist Publicly During the Filming For this Movie) Even Tho Anthony Mackie Himself Admitted It in An Interview that Those Diss Track Were Actually Making Him Getting Cooked Fr By Eminem.

Fun fact: the "freestyles" in the parking lot were written, but Eminem got too busy to write his, so he did an actual freestyle. So when he says, "Your style is generic. Mine's authentic made." He wasn't lying.

I appreciate this ending so much more as an adult. As a kid I thought it was anticlimactic because we spend the whole movie working toward this battle over his stage fright once he's won, he just goes back to work - but man it's actually so powerful! He's conquered his fear but that doesn't mean you just catapult into a career right? You have to build an audience, make enough $ to keep building an audience, come back and do the same great job over and over and over for years... So good

It was stated that the 80's classic film, Purple Rain, was a huge influence on the entire movie. It was especially on display during the final scenes at The Shelter. Papa Doc and Leaders of The Free World mimicked Morris Day and Time and B.Rabbit and Three One Third mimicked Kid and The Revolution.
