Fun Fact : Eminem didn't attend the Oscars to accept his Best Original Song win because he didn't think he had any chance in winning as he didn't know that a song could win an Oscar. Plus, apparently he also spent more time at home watching cartoons with his daughter when the Oscars took place. So that's nice for him Glad that he finally performed the song 18 years later at the 2020 Oscars. So proud of him 🙌

Eminem was about 29 years old when he made this movie. Though it depicts parts of his life from a few years younger than that. A lot of tis movie was inspired by the events of his real life. From the poverty, mother with addiction problems, and no father. This was Anthony Mackie's first movie role. In the battle at the end, Eminem actually looked up facts about Mackie's childhood before they shot the piece. So the look of surprise on Mackie's face was complete genuine. Future's character was inspired by Proof in real life. Proof was the one that fully believed in Eminem and always pushed him.

So, all the verses in the final batch of battles, Eminem wrote. But, there was originally supposed to be a montage under music of him beating other rappers working his way up to Free World. So they basically just asked who in the crowd wanted to be part of the montage, and let them come up and do a verse, then Em would mime a response without saying anything because they fimed that sequence while he was on tour (he'd do a show, then fly out to film, then go back to do the next show), and he wanted to save his voice. Then one rapper went up there, and her verse was so good that he decided he had to actually respond. Then the whole thing became an impromtu actual rap battle with people challenging him. So there's a compilation of those battles out there that are all actual on the fly raps.

I love this movie so much as one of the best rap movies out here along with Hustle & Flow. Fun facts: • The sheet of paper that Jimmy writes on on the bus is the real sheet that Eminem wrote "Lose Yourself" on. The sheet of paper sold for $10,000 on eBay. • Eminem was unable to accept his Academy Award in person. He felt so sure another nominee would win that he did not bother to attend the ceremony. Instead he was sleeping, while his daughter watched cartoons the night he won. • Eminem lost 24 pounds for the role. He also has stated in interviews that he was not playing himself • The film cast two Academy Award winners: Eminem and Kim Basinger; and one Oscar nominee: Michael Shannon. With a $51 million opening weekend, at the time this was the second biggest debut for an R-rated movie. • In the original script, Jimmy worked at a hotel carrying people's bags and had issues with his boss.
Someone didn't watch the discussion, because they talked about most of these.

This movie was like a light version of what he really went through before he signed with Dre. IRL yes his home was abusive and toxic, he had a little brother who was taken to foster care but Em raised him as soon as he was able financially. He also adopted his niece (Kim's twin sister's daughter), they then had Hailie and much later he also adopted Kim's daughter from another relationship. The man is remarkable. His friends in the movie are a mixture of his D12 friends as Mr. Porter himself has mentioned in an interview, for example Em created Future's character based on Proof and Mr. Porter and so on with the rest. Not only a Legend in music but also a very unique human being.

What I always liked about this movie was the fact that it ended right before any other biopic would take off. According to lore, it wasn't too long after this that Em left to LA and got signed by Dre. To me it just makes the story that much more powerful. We know where it ends. We know he finds success. But the fact that it speaks to his resilence and the resilence of any person who has a dream and is willing to fight for it. That makes it incredibly isnpirational. I love that.

Crazy!! Only like 2-3 hours ago I literally just randomly thought “Man I wonder if there’s any _"first time watching videos"_ for 8-mile?” And I searched for some and only found a few, was disappointed and watched a couple of them only to see this this uploaded “1 hour ago” not too long after

Fun fact. Sara from Da Band is an extra in the crowd. You can see her face right next to Rabbit in the background.

I also just realised that if Sheddar Bob hadn't shat on the vibe by asking if he was worried, he might not have went at the same angle in his round.. Bob saved the story!
