Yes in the past. Right Now no. I rented a car (Non Tesla) from Uber through Avis for a year (Sept 2020- Sept 2021). Cost $175 weekly. Made about $4-5 gross for every $1 spent (gas included). Working Weekends Thursday - Sunday Just last week I rented (non Tesla) from Uber through Avis for a week. Cost $346 for the week. Made about $1.68 gross for every $1 spent (gas included). Working all 7 days in the week Basically The prices of the rental and gas has doubled, while Uber rates to drivers have been cut in half. Also Uber is slow compared to a few years ago. Not worth it. On the flip side if you don't want people in your personal car, and a ton of miles, depreciation and maintenance bills then definitely rent a car. At the end of the day these Rideshare companies and food delivery companies are not worth it anymore. Whether renting or driving your own car

It’s a good option for a full time driver, as he said. You will earn more because the Tesla qualifies for Comfort rides plus my tips are much higher. Many riders are impressed and even fascinated by the car so it’s a good conversation piece as well. From an expense standpoint, you’re not responsible for maintenance and repairs, and more importantly, you’re not impacted by the depreciation in your car’s value driven by high mileage driving. It’s a great solution when you account for the total cost of ownership of your vehicle

1... Tesla said you can't super charge the battery every day 2 or 3 times... with a basic model, I think you have to. If you work full shift, it will damage the battery.. 2.. you have to have a house to charge the battery at night if you wanna save time and money... 3...toyota prius give you almost 600 miles full tank for $50 /10 gallon...is much cheaper from the Tesla 4...the take away electric cars are not there yet for me. If they change the miles from 300 to 600 full charge, I will think about it

I rented one just to try out a Tesla. I rented on Thurs. Drove it all weekend. Ordered one on Monday. Cost me pennies over $3.00 a day to charge at home. Vs filling up my kia $50 x3 a week. Plus oil change? That's $700 a month. My Tesla $750 a month. So I can pay the gas station or I can pay Tesla and get a "free" car. It was a no Brainer. 😂 love my Tesla. But getting less tips. NOTE: Shockingly, the Tax Writeoffs at about $.65/mile when you own can be a huge advantage versus the smaller tax write off you receive by renting. The difference can add several thousand into your pocket at the end of the year after ALL expenses, maintenance, Depreciation, etc. So sometimes it makes the most sense to buy, but the same can be said about renting under certain scenarios too. I am still looking into myself so I don't have info readily available to link to. Sorry.
@baldisaerodynamic9692 Жыл бұрын
i rented one after my car wreck. had it for 3 weeks. then like you i bought a model 3 brand new. $450 a week with insurance. the best way to see if its worth it to you long term is this..... you take the average per hour earnings you make. so if you make 25 per hour then you need to work 18 more hours than you normally would work to have the same net. you can go deeper in terms of your gas vs charging, but in the end it wont be significant enough, maybe 15-16 hours more to work to pay the rental. buying one, as of right now....$6500 down will give you a 650 month payment. if you can use tesla insurance that will be between 90-150 a month. people will talk about depreciation of your own blah blah....buying one with maintaining it is still cheaper and worth it over the rental and even if you put 100k on it in 3 years you will still get at least $10k on a trade in or more, even after 3 sets of tires....you will still be FAR ahead buying one. as for charging. i use this as an example that helped me see if it was worth it compared to a non EV. my 2022 tuscon hybrid got 36mpg. at peak charging costs at SC 36 miles of range would be about $3.25 at 42 cents kwh. compared to a gallon of gas locally for me was about $3.90-4.25. at off peak 15 cents kwh, about 90-110 miles of range added for $4-4.25. if you use this formula, this will help you see the real cost savings. i also only use SC 25% and level 1 charging is 75% of the time and that equates to about $3-6 per week i SC. so charging the car at SC at peak time will cost equal to or slightly more than a newer prius that gets 45+mpg. im a "full time" driver, but i also work in a small geographical area with often non stop rides and do not drive as much as most drivers do. so your need for a SC will obviously vary, which is why i used the comparable formula above to see how much im saving a month. in my case, $50 a week in gas vs about $5 a week SC im saving $180 or so per month. if your car gets 22mpg, your savings will be far greater for your actual benefit. if you got 45mpg, your savings is basically nothing. so if adding 45 miles cost me like $4.25, then you compared that to gallon of gas where i live as of today its about $3.90 so its slighty cheaper. but if you are coming from a 22mpg car, thats $8 in gas, for $4.25 in SC to compare almost half the price (again these are the peak prices i said above off peak will always be cheaper) hope this helps anyone considering an EV, uber or not.

Too expensive to rent! Owning one you are looking at about $900 a month and $200 for insurance. Do it fulltime you can make it worth it however the problem is fulltime drivers range anywhere from 70k-120k miles per year. About 2 or 3 years into the Tesla loan you will need to replace the battery pack which is $13k-$17k which kind of makes it not worth it. You are better off going with a Hybrid in which overall expense will be cheaper..

@baldisaerodynamic9692 Жыл бұрын
there is no "hidden" costs. it has all the same wear items that an ICE has. tires, brakes, wipers, etc. just no fluids to maintain every 5k miles. however, if you see the post i made explaining the cost of charging that will help you decide if its worth it. the only downfall you may have is charging on your needs, which is easy to figure out, and if you road trip often enough. then, hybrid is the way to go.

I rented the Tesla for 5 weeks. Hertz sent a Lyft to fetch me to their store. I had a Malibu reserved and the salesman offered me a Tesla for the same price, $260 a week. I spent maybe a half hour at the store and worked that afternoon. When I returned the car Hertz bought me a Lyft ride to the Toyota dealer to pick up my car. I drove 5 days a week for 5 weeks and gave over 1000 rides. The only negative were the door handles and door buttons. A lot of people couldn’t figure them out. I had to rent a car because mine was in the body shop at Toyota being repaired. Insurance covered the cost of the rental and I had to pay $298 for charging at Superchargers. I worked the Waste Management golf tournament and the Super Bowl one week in Phoenix. I used the gps to get to and from Phoenix from my house in Tucson. The gps would build a charging stop without any prompt from me. Very cool. If I buy a Tesla 3 I’ll get the long range. The range in an EV isn’t like the range in my Toyota Avalon Hybrid because air conditioning uses battery power. I’ll also install a level 2 charger in my garage when I buy an electric car.

Here in it's Orlando is $385 a week plus the cost of charging. I drive full time 10-12 hours daily & I'm charging 2-3 times a day at $15.00 per charging session. That's $345 a week just in fuel COST. So $385 a week for the rental plus $345 for the fuel COST for the week = $730 a week to rent the Tesla with Hertz/Uber rental program. That's $2,900 a month total for the Tesla rental. Keep in mind I do make $300.00 per day doing this and not everyone's going to make that amount of money 8k-9k per month. My monthly take home is between $6k-$7k It's it with it? Absolutely not considering Hertz will force you to take the car into pep boys out tire kingdom for a maintenance inspection every 6k miles and the inspection takes about 2-4 hours to complete as they rotate the tires and do some other shit to the car. If you don't have the inspection done on time Hertz will make you wait two week before they'll rent you another car. FYI when using a credit card Hertz will charge the $385 to the credit card and won't release the hold, even if you pay the credit card charge in full it means nothing as at the end of the month Hertz will pull all money owed $385 a week for 4 weeks plus the fuel charging fee for the entire 4 weeks all at once. It's a dirty racket on a massive scale. Public service announcement "Go to Avis or any other rental company in your area that's been approved for Uber rentals and run away from Hertz"!!

@baldisaerodynamic9692 Жыл бұрын
teslas have drive units rated to 600k miles or more. yes, it will get you there. the biggest concern is battery packs after 150-200k miles and the cost to replace it. think of it as replacing your engine and transmission. however, you wont have to service the vehicle like a gas car, or replace emissions components, oil leaks, and far more thing that will go wrong with an ICE car after the same miles. so in the end, it may end up costing you close to the same if you got a battery pack half way thru to the same miles vs ice car and all the dozens of other possible repairs it will need. in this example, lets say engine and transmission never needed replacement but maybe need a battery.....assume by the time you get that far in miles batteries have gotten much cheaper. they already have come from 25k to 15k, and refurbished ones down to 9k. most cars with labor 9k will be an engine and transmission replacement, assuming refurbished for newer modern cars.

They are understaff and could care less about Uber drivers. A lot of non Uber drivers want to rent Tesla cars and they are given priority over Uber drivers at the location I rented because they can make more money renting it to them.

But what if u do 200 miles a day 5 to 6 days a week? Is it worth it, to buy one & do the same thing?
@bennygunawan7211 Жыл бұрын
I do not think it is worth it,I met another driver who rented a TESLA and asked him how much he paid for a rental,he said 450 which is a big lie because supercharging is expensive,then I asked how much do you make and he said 2000/ week,then I asked him how long do you work and he answer 12 hours/ day,and 7 days /week,hmmmm i do not think it is worth it because you do not have a day off.Believe me super charging is expensive anywhere 25 to 29 dollars /charge so do not rent a TESLA,I bought instead Honda Accord hybrid,and pay 880/month purchase for 48 months,do not go longer than 4 years.If you end up in Pasadena near Nordstrom,they have the cheapest charging,I did from 20 % to 100 % only cost me 10 bucks,the charging station is subsidize by the city.

I drive a 2012 Mazda3 Skyactive, Uber lists me as an UberXL, I guarantee its cheaper per mile than renting or owning a Tesla, you guys and your New Cars are driving them right into the ground where mine is Paid For In Full in a few months, plus money in the bank. I have ridden in a Tesla they feel like a truck, the doors wont open and the leather seats stink. theres just something about a gas motor ask any Harley Davidson owner, the feeling of gas power, Indycar/Nascar would not be the same. If I had to drive a Slot Car I would but not as long as the romance with Gas lives on. btw if your in the left lane please move over"

@warrencrawley8300 Жыл бұрын
Why would you rent a car for over $300 a week not including charging which was not mentioned. So let's say you're down $500 for the week and haven't even started driving yet, I'm sure if you would have got into a major accident with that car he probably would have ended up paying for all of it and downtime of the vehicle
@mrhumboldthippy7 ай бұрын
I assume this man is educated and had jobs in life but I'd say the greater majority of Uber and Lyft drivers are from foreign countries and or college kids that have never worked anywhere so when next month comes around and they're not getting that good income to pay their car payment that you just suggested that they should sign up for the next 5 to 10 years they're going to fold and lose their vehicle,, however all those exact same difference people that went out and spent twice as much on a rental will have nothing to lose and we'll have money in their pocket when their contract expires on that Tuesday or Friday and they won't be out anything if they decide to walk away from that job

Plus you will become dependent on electricity that in some cities are not available right now because of rolling blackouts I’m just saying.

Uber pays better to those drivers who have a high maintainance car. That means if I have a ford edge base car I would make more money than driving a hybrid or electric car that have comfort and uber black prefference. Yes renting car is way better because you can have your private car for yourself. In the other hand, after pandemic time gas price went up and lots of drivers start to work in uber. Making uber less reliable job.

Never rent a car unless its for a few weeks whilst you sort out your own car. Start with the cheapest car that meets your local requirements to be accepted for Uber/Lyft Don't finance a Companies virtue signalling. In the UK they push drivers to get new electric cars so they can do Comfort and EV rides for better rates, but you have to run UberX as rhere is more work there. So you slowly get less Comfort and EV work as riders know they usually get a Comfort or EV on X. Thats how they get you

@@Therideshareguy Thank you. What I can tell you is that prior to me knowing that supercharging degrades the battery, I was using the supercharger regularly, mainly because I was given 5k free supercharging miles when I purchased my Tesla and I wanted to use them all up because Tesla only give those miles for the first year. What I can tell you is that supercharging degraded my battery significantly. I was not supercharging in any extreme weather. I was told by more than one tesla technition that regularly supercharging degrades the battery.

Rent through Uber/Hertz? That's a big no. Absolutely not. Maybe if you're in a big dense urban market that's super busy and still have good surge & bonuses. AND you want to drive 70-80+ hours per week. Then maybe. And even then you would net WAY WAY WAY WAY more in your pocket buying a used prius.

Rent = 60-80 hours a week (including charging) + Uber sends you the best rides because the algorithm is rigged IYKYK - 2000 or more a month and no life whatsoever Own = 30 - 50 hrs per week (charging included) + it’s yours - you owe 40,000 for a car that belongs to Uber and you can’t pay for without them. I would have kept the Toyota. Soon self driving cars will replace all of us. Then what. No future in this do it the cheapest way possible for now and save for a way out.
