Perfectly described procedure in the video. No wasted moves, no verbose video "ego" nonsense, just straight up good info. Fixed GF's 2016 GMC in 20 minutes. Changed sensor first- issue remained, so a month later did the thermostat, and that fixed it. As Danny suggested, probably best to do both at once. Thanks Danny.

I did your procedure step by step as well worked 🙏.I was also told by the dealership that it would be 1200$,And this is after I had it serviced by them one time,had 0 issues 0 check engine lights,had very extensive and service record by previous owner (by different dealerships) well maintained beautiful 18 Suburban,I only needed a oil change that was due by oil life dash ,but was talked into 1600$ of “preventative maintenance “ love my vehicle and lacked mechanic knowledge at that time,Have had to take it back to them about five times since that “maintenance “ was done,from 3evap leaks to repair of my rims that they damaged and a/c loud noise after they replaced filter,also my battery was stolen and replaced with a AAA Battery that they are blaming AAA for because it was towed to dealership by them. So when this code came on they claimed that they didn’t touch that area and quoted me 1200$ masked my rage walked off and saw your video shocked at how cheap the part sensor cost so I bought the housing as well for “preventative maintenance “😂as well worked like a charm .thank you 🙏

I did this today. Thank you very much for this video without your instructions I would not have a been able to do this myself. I really appreciate the time you took to put this video together. Just a small note that I did not drain out as much coolant as you did. I just let it drip all over the floor and then I refilled it after I was done.

So, I changed the temperature sensor and the thermostat on my 2015 suburban, but my gauge is still reading 160 and the fan stays on after I turned the engine off. Does it only reset if I unplugged the battery terminal? Okay. So I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery. Then, after a few minutes, reconnected it and everything worked great! I checked for leaks and had to top off the coolant, just a little. Thank you for this great video!

Would this help fix with the fan staying on after the car is shut off? Even though its not over heating? I replaced the thermostat sensor, but it still seems to think the car is hot. The gauge is reading 160 and the check engine light is on. Its giving me a P128 reading on my diagnostics reader. I am wondering if this needs to be replaced as well. Great video! Thanks!
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage Жыл бұрын
Yes, that code indicates the car is running too cool, so most likely a bad thermostat that has stuck open and lets too much coolant flow and overcool the engine

My fan cuts on and off from time to time and I replaced the sensor but it still comes on. Could this also be the thermostat I have to change? Because a shop told me I should replace the fan but I’m not sure they are correct about that.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 4 ай бұрын
Yeah, the thermostat sticks open and over-cools the engine. The fan comes on because it recognizes the engine should be hot and it’s reading cold. It’s most likely the thermostat

@dannyjohnsonsgarage

I have seen my temp pegged at 210 straight up so I think that’s normal. It may be better to run colder but you also need to verify how the rest of the vehicle is designed. It may try to heat the engine up by leaning it out or give you a fault code, so I wouldn’t recommend it without a tune

Thank you for the video. I used it as recently changed the temperature sensor and then at a later date changed the thermostat on my 2015 suburban. However, after the thermostat change the temperature goes high to 210 and above when before it would stay at 180-195. Is there anything that I should be looking at or that I might have done wrong? Thank you in advance for your help.

Likely the old thermostat was opening early. Your engine should operate around the 210 mark.

Hey Danny, you say to make sure to fill all 3 areas back with antifreeze but there’s only the hose and the Degasser tank. Are you counting the degasser as 2 because it says front and rear?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 7 ай бұрын
You want to pour coolant into the hose towards the thermostat, into the hose going into the radiator itself, and into the degas tank.
@ryanbuckner2405
@ryanbuckner2405 7 ай бұрын
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage well I just poured it into the hose while it was hooked into the thermostat as full as I could, hooked it back up. Filled up the degasser and everything worked perfectly. It actually fixed my problem. Fan stopped running and having noticed anything weird. Appreciate the response
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 7 ай бұрын
@@ryanbuckner2405 it should work air pockets out, but when people fill only the degas bottle and nothing is in the radiator is when it usually causes trouble, so I recommend burping as listed above. Glad you got it going 👍🏼

My temp gauge is at 210 and then spikes its way to 260 then if you let out of gas it starts to fall back to 210 isn’t that the thermostat sticking?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage

It could be sticking closed. Or you could have air in the system and want to burp it like in the end

Could a bad thermostat cause a coolant smell from the vents? Or is that specifically a leaking heater core?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage Жыл бұрын
You most likely won’t smell it from the thermostat, so the heater core or even a leak in the engine can make it smell through the intake vents for the air conditioning

If the gauge is reading zero when warm, it’s most likely the thermostat is bad and is over-cooling the engine.
