I understand that charizard is popular so it gets a lot of forms, but my issue with it is that it gets forms but the other 2 kanto starters don’t. Charizard gets two megas while the other two get one. Charizard gets to be in two base games while the other two come as dlc

As a fan of the trading cards, I have come to think of Charizard as something of a mascot for the TCG in recent years, especially given how many different cards it's been receiving lately, it got: a Vmax, a V Star, a Radiant, 2 different Tag Team cards, and 2 Exs recently, one of which is a tera dark version of Charizard, and this is all without going into the other random cards it's been receiving such as the special delivery version. I think this all goes back to how popular the first Charizard card ever printed was back in the day, and arguably still is, given the absolutely ridiculous prices it has been seen going for in recent years, which the Pokemon company obviously realized they could capitalize on for success. The TCG aside, I do think that there's a very good reason why Charizard is sooooooooo popular, and a big part of that stems from it being a starter Pokemon, which are already extremely popular to begin with. It also helps that it was one of Ash's original Pokemon from back in the days of the Indigo League, and it having an engaging backstory and eventually becoming one of Ash's most powerful Pokemon he owned once it finally learned to respect Ash enough to obey him again definitely add to it's appeal in my opinion. It's also based on a dragon, which automatically makes it cooler than your average Pokemon by default, let's not kid ourselves here, and being part of the dragon egg group and being able to learn many moves of that type on top of becoming a dragon type itself for one of it's mega evolutions really helps to sell this image of it in my mind. TL;DR: While I don't consider myself to be a huge Charizard fanboy, you can't really deny it has a ton of appeal for a wide variety of reasons. Love it or hate it, it's as popular as it is for a good reason, and not purely for nostalgia from old fans of the series like myself

Dont forget about these MFs (jk I do like Gyarados) Magikarp line: - directly involved in Jotho's Lake of Rage story point & cuz it's 100% guaranteed to be shiny, it was in all likelihood the 1st one many kids encountered, let alone caught - Received a Mega that was used by Lysander & Misty (anime) - was supposedly gonna get RFakes in SV - continuously buffed & never left behind (incredible abilities 1st intimidate & then Moxie, physical water moves, Dragon Dance) - Magikarp song - Magikarp Jump's a mobile game dedicated entirely to Magikarp on how high it can jump. The whole formula of worthless Pkmn turning into a team staple worked out so well that more Water-types following this trend would be made like Feebas, Wimpod, & Dreepy (it used to be a water type according to what its dex entries say), tho they require more ef4t to succeed with. The opposite of regional bugs where they feel the most useless in early stages, but after evolving, their strength shoots all the way up immediately.

Charizard is my favorite pokemon, because it was my first one in game AND my first anime episode was Charmander the stray pokemon And it's totally legit to have your first ever starter to be your favorite pokemon, I bet at least half of people in the community follow this trend, but of course people think it's different just because it's a Charizard But yeah, sometimes I just wanna say that Scyther is my favorite pokemon and not Mega Charizard X, just to avoid being called "basic" or "SHOULD BE DEAD FOR LOVING THIS OVERRATED MONSTROSITY" I wish that Charizard wasn't so popular, just to not be ashamed for loving it...

My pick for an overrated pokemon: Garchomp. Now put down the pitchforks, its a really cool design and is extremely strong (its a pseudo legend after all), but maybe too hyped up in power by the fanbase. I always see it talked about in "strongest" or "best aces" lists at the top, usually citing it as "ridiculously fast" and "super tough" but its stats really don't stack up: barely faster than Salamence (to the point where bulky Rock Helmet builds get out sped by them) and completely usurped by Dragapult, and its typing makes it rather frail. Conversely, to defend a pokemon, I think the Charizard slander has worn its welcome. At this point there are more fans saying they're sick of Charizard than ones saying they like him, at some point the pendulum swings away from "overrated" status. We've had plenty of starters that get forms the other members didn't: like Ash Greninja, and the Hisui starters. Plus, it's not like Charizard was the only one in those cases, he got a 2nd Mega and a Gigantimax, but the others still got Megas and Gigantimax s, unlike the above examples. "But he got his Gigantinax first," yeah, so did Mega Blaziken, a whole set of games before the others two. Besides, because of it you can now do a fresh playthrough of SwSh with a Gigantimax Blastoise and Venusaur on your team, meanwhile Charmander is locked to post game. As for 2 megas (he's not necessarily unique, with Mewtwo also getting 2), I would bet money there was an internal argument with the creatives on which to go with, and they ultimately compromised by using both. If you remember Mega Y was revealed first by itself with the other 2 starters. For a period, theat was just Mega Charizard as far as we knew, and people were PISSED we didn't get dragon Charizard for a good month or so before X was revealed. Honestly, Im just grateful we live in a timeline where dragon Charizard got to be a thing. Speaking of which, for Terrastal....just wait a bit, the other 2 are on their way. He wasn't even the only starter, just the first one as a raid. Lets face it, Blast and Saur don't suffer from "3 type syndrome" like Charizard does, so making a gimick of a unique typed raid boss for them is less obvious. Its not even really a unique form, its Terastal.

I do like Garchomp, and I still personally think Cynhtia's was the toughest ace of any trainer so far in games I played, with probably Clair's Kingdra as a close second (Didn't play Kanto games, RSE, Sword/Shield, BDSP) But that might probably be because levelling up in old games was a pain so the first time I beat it, it was with a team whose strongest mon was a level 45 Infernape Or maybe I'm just the only dumbass who didn't grind in older games, that might be the reason But leveling up is just not as tedious in newer games That aside, yeah, Garchomp was still definitely a monster when introduced, but it's not unmanageable, the game still expects you to beat it Plus, power creep is a thing But I think it's actually nice Garchomp is not this undefeatable monster some people hype it up as

10:24 Y'know I was actually thinking of Natu recently and was just like "he's alright". He's not my favourite (hell if I had to guess he's near the low 300s) but I appreciate his existence. Onto the topic at hand. I remember trying to hate Charizard in particular because he got so much love. I especially hated his X Mega for feeling more like fan wish fulfillment rather than a logical super form for Charizard that takes him to the next step. Then one day I realised that no, I think Charizard is cool and the amount of love Gamefreak throws at it won't change that. That's my thought process with Pokemon in general. All of the listed golden child Pokemon are all in my top 50. Why? Because they're cool and at least deserve some of the recognition they've gotten. I'm not gonna say that you're wrong for disliking these Pokemon for how much love they get. I started hating Plusle as a joke because I liked Minun so much which turned into me actually not liking Plusle. I'm that stupid. All I'm saying is that's never a reason why I don't like a Pokemon.

I'm ok with pretty much all of them... just my problem with Charizard is it's blatant favoritism when it's supposed to be an equal to the two other kanto starters. charizard makes an appearence in sun and moon as a ride which is fine it's something that makes sense, is the starter in origins which to be fair would give any an unfair advantage so I don't blame it for that but my issue comes in with two megas when the other two only got one and being the only base game gmax in sw/sh. not to mention it was the first special tera raid not the whole trio.

Part of it is due to the anime arc with Ash's Infernape, and another could be the fact that it was one of only 2 available fire types in Diamond and Pearl overall. I wouldn't consider it overrated, just very beloved.

Here are some Pokémon I think are overrated: Garchomp: I just straight up hate this thing. One of my least favorite pseudo-legendaries by far. Ugly design, terrible mega, he’s just straight up bad. Also, to those who say Cynthia’s Garchomp is a “monster”, well it’s not even that strong, I literally beat it on my first try. Espeon: While I don’t necessarily “hate” Espeon, I just dislike it in general. It’s design is a little weird looking and just too feminine for my liking. Yes, all the eeveelutions get a bit too much attention, btu Espeon definitely doesn’t deserve it the most.

For garchomp I disagree on it being ugly. Personally I think it’s adorable. Though, it does tend to overshadow a lot of other Pokémon, which is unfair, though I at least understand why. My least favourite Starters are the Squirtle line, Froakie line, the Mudkip line, and Turtwig line. (my absolute least favourite being Greninja because that saliva covered gross tongue scarf gives me nausea just thinking about it) I have been absolutely lit on fire by Pokémon fans several times for saying that. I'm just not really a fan of reptiles and amphibians.

The thing about Dedenne being number 1 in Japan has to do with Japan liking cute things. Their taste are pretty different compared to ours, heck they had a poll for the most popular Monster Hunter monsters in Japan and freak'n Kulu-Ya-Ku was voted the 3rd most popular monster of all. This little chicken bird wyvern raptor beat absolute juggernaut monsters like Rathalos, Zinogre, Glavenus, and Fatalis in the popularity polls.

As much as I understand the dislike towards Charizard for how much special attention it gets I think it would be a lot less of a problem if the other two starters were receiving as much attention. Yes in the anime we have gotten to see multiple companions getting a Kanto starter but that's about where the comparisons end. I don't think GMax Blastoise or Venusaur ever appeared in the anime. And in general, those two have no shown up much at all in recent years, instead the favor falls to the occasional appearance of Squirtle or Bulbasaur. Hell. It's not even confirmed is Ash from the I Choose You movies even has Bulbasaur or Squirtle. All that mattered was Charizard apparently. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the love should be spread around just a little more. Let the start trio represent Kanto, not just Charizard.

The annoying way that TPC deals with some Pokémon is what makes people take it out on species like Charizard, Pikachu, Gengar and others. Unfortunately, TPC manipulating the popularity of some species seems like a referee wanting certain teams to win the championship, it doesn't feel like something they earned on their own merits. In the same way that a Pokémon is not bad because it is popular, they aren't flawless.

My favorite Pokemon is Lucario, one of these Golden Child Pokemon, and truth be told, It became my favorite Pokemon before I knew that it was even popular. When I first saw it, I just figured it to be some obscure Pokemon (I was wrong) that was just overpowered. Since then I have clearly seen that Lucario is considered a very popular pokemon, and that mostly just makes me want to go "Grrrr, this is MY favorite pokemon! Shoo!" Also, side note, the reason I like it is not because it's an anthropomorphic blue jackal, I like it because it's essentially a cool empath with the force.

If you want a real overrated Pokemon, try Ditto...and not just any Ditto. The "incomplete face" Ditto Duplica had before it fixed itself. That face was a one-time anime gag and suddently, it's on plushes and cards and stuff everywhere.

The safest option they can go with is creating a Pkmn to be a golden child, like they did with Greninja. Even Pikachu had to evolve from Fatkachu to Mascot Material Pikachu, while Greninja was shoved everywhere they could. If a random média material had to have a Gen 6 Pkmn, that would have been Greninja, as we see in the movie. That said, the ninja frog looks really cool.

The fact that it and its evolutions constantly overshadow just about every other Pokémon is what rubs me the wrong way. Probably the worst example being the journeys anime. Chloe starts out with a Yamper as her partner pokemon, perfect, it’s a cool Pokémon from the new generation that can get more fleshed out in the anime. But then it just gets pushed to the side in favor of eevee, a Gen 1 Pokémon who has already gotten plenty of attention already.

Yeah honestly before that segment my only real issue was he kind of downplayed how popular eevee was (in terms of fan content it overshadows even the other golden children), but my real gripes are with the latter half. Especially with the complaints about how Dedenne and Natu ranked high in the polls, like, can’t the less appreciated Pokémon get a chance to shine for once? Dedenne winning is at least a bit more interesting than just another win for Charizard. Also he says meowth doesn’t deserve the love it gets because “it’s design is generic” meanwhile Eevee and it’s evolutions also have very generic designs but get FAR more love from the fans, yet it’s apparently wrong to call those ones overrated?

The following is my opinion. I like most of the Golden Children Pokémon, well except for Pikachu. It’s not really that good in most games when you can evolve it to either regular Raichu or Alolan Raichu. I like Charizard but it gets so much unfair treatment, when all three gen 1 starters are equally good (personally I like Venusaur). My problem with Greninja is the uncomfortable tongue. Makes me feel a bit disgusted that the tongue never retracts. Sorry but get rid of the tongue to make it less ugly. Also why all the hate for Delphox? It’s a fox fire witch and does really well in its home region. The rest are pretty iconic.

There should be three categories: Golden Child (like the video says) or Over-Promoted The pokemon that are featured heavily in merchandise or the anime, and have a lot of new forms in games. Pikachu, Charizard, Eevee and Meowth, for example. Overused The pokemon that appear on most competitive teams like Greninja, Ferrothorn, or Landorus T. Overrated This category is hard to quantify, since a lot of pokemon have their reputation for a reason. But me personally, and I know a lot of you will disagree, Whitney's Miltank. She's not as hard to beat as everyone keeps saying she is.
