A friend of mine just completed a book researching the origin of these exercises. It will be coming out in November. Here is the name: The Secret of the Five Rites: In Search of a Lost Western Tradition of Inner Alchemy by John Michael Greer

HI ! What is great with you and your brother is that you always propose for the beginners two or three-way to progress until we can do the original movement. Great ! and different from what exists on other sites. Result even at 78, I already made significant progress . Very good Job ! Merci, Arigato .Yves the Japanese .

i first learned these rites way before youtube was in it's prime back in 2005. Now many people have helping me refine and create the routine which is most ergonomically benefical for beginners and intermediates, i agree very much with your example of how to perform the arch and table top, the shifting of the hand positions causes external rotation of the shoulders which is the ideal position for anything the involves strengthening and opening up the chest shoulders etc. very well explained and modified for beginners, please any beginner listen follow along, and watch at least a few times a week the first few months to remind yourself of good form.

I bought the book from the 90s and it instructed people to start at 3 reps of each rite and then each week add 2 more until you reach 21 after 10 weeks of daily practice. It's an energy accumulation and accommodation process that gives the body time to adjust, not a race to get to 21 reps.

Just came across your video and loved all the modifications. I have been doing the 5 Tibetans for 3 months now and still struggle a bit with #4. I have arthritis in the base of my thumbs so it hurts a great deal to press that hard....I have been making a fist and pushing off my fist to raise my body. Is that ok to do as a modification. Thanks for your guidance.

I've been doing the Tibetan rites inconsistently for a couple of years. I'm always open to seeing other people's interpretation. But I notice before I watch the whole video that you have not given a heart or reply to any of the people who commented. I'm starting to get into the habit of not subscribing to people who don't honor comments. On a side-note I feel like at the beginning of the instruction was excellent

Hope you enjoy the video and if you gives these Tibetan Rites a try, comment down below your favorite Rite! Mine is personally the table top. 🤘 This routine has a deep history and there is some debate on the actual origin of these moves but either way this is a great routine that can be enjoyed by beginners and advanced practitioners alike. It’s a simple routine that can increase your energy, flexibility, strength, while alleviating stress. The Tibetan Rites have had a big impact on my life. You will see two Rites that influenced our Primal Movement training… the table top and two dogs. Also if you would like to know more about the history or info on the Tibetan Rites there are two resources for you: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Tibetan_Rites (general info on Wikipedia) www.mindbodygreen.com/0-17551/fountain-of-youth-5-tibetan-exercises-you-should-be-doing-every-day.html (article from Cardiologist, Joel Kahn M.D. on the benefits of the Tibetan Rites) Also shout out to the primal body team and the recent flexibility challenge! You guys rocked it and it was a blast getting flexibility gains with you all!

I agree, also on the arch the breath is held for a second or two at the maximum extension. Also the toes should be flexed so that the toes dig in to the ground on the arch back not the instep of the foot. Small detail but important

For westerners the benefit is not esoteric like chakras 😂 the benefit is as we get older we stop moving in many directions we move in ever decreasing patterns. As children we spin roll tumble. The spin activates our balance proprioception senses. Studies have shown that incorporating these type of playful movements back into our lives as adults prevents ankle sprains in sports and also prevents falling in old age. Where loss of balance is often the cause of falling rather than any physical impairment.
