Many years ago, when I was told that I was joining "Band" in junior high school, the band director chose an instrument for me to play. He chose the trombone. I did not have a "small hands" problem. I had a "short arms" problem. I was small for my age *and* I was a year ahead in school. I could not even reach my arm out far enough to get the trombone slide out to the furthest position (7th position), so he suggested that I tie a shoe string to the end of the slide and just sort of throw it out there while holding onto the string. Because that's a better idea than, say, having me play an instrument that I could actually play.

That's terrible! Once I was in a play and left my glasses backstage (I couldn't wear them onstage) and when I came back, the lenses were on two opposite sides of the dressing room and the frames were all twisted and broken. (There was a girl there who didn't like me and had tried to embarrass me in public on multiple occasions, so while I don't know for sure that she did it, I have my guesses.)

Most of the classical music I listen to I have discovered through Brett and Eddy when it’s playing in the background of the video. It sometimes takes me more than half a year just to find the piece and the composer and stuff so just as a suggestion it would be really helpful if they could put the names and composer (e.g, Paganini violin concerto no 1 Ilya Gringolts or something) in the description of the video. I kinda hope they do see this so pls leave a like.

8:36 - I'm getting flashbacks on this one. In high school music theory class, during a breakout session, I was trying to impress someone I was interested in by running and lunging off of a chair and... I don't know, long-jumping and landing somewhere far from my starting point? I was a good jumper and bad at understanding how to impress people. And also not really a good jumper apparently. I went far, and then came down to the floor, and my foot went right through a soft case for a cello. And also through the cello inside the soft case. The body had a big gaping hole in it. Well, four. The big normal one, the two smaller normal ones, and then a new one I had made with my foot. I don't know why it was on the floor in the first place instead of the locker. The music theory class notoriously didn't have many string players (the bane of my final project when I got to conduct as trumpeters played all my string parts). Predictably, the cello didn't even belong to someone in the music theory class. Maybe someone in music theory let it fall out of the locker when retrieving something else. So I left a note with my phone number. And for like a week, there was no call. I started to hope it would never come. Then finally I got the call. I had written that I'd pay whatever it would cost to repair it. The call came and he said it would cost $200. It was a lot, but not impossible, for me to pay. And looking back, I think they did a very charitable thing. First, I don't think it could have been economically repaired. They probably had to replace it. And even for a student instrument, even used, they probably had to pay more than $200 to replace it. I think they picked a number that they thought I could handle and ate the rest of the cost. My high school had a lot of high-income families, and when they showed up to collect I got the sense they weren't hurting. I wonder if that week between the note and the call was spent deliberating the best number to land on. If so, bravo. At the time, I totally bought it. They were so kind. And now I can't even remember the name of the person, so I can't properly thank them. They had asked me to give them $200, which I did have on hand, at a time when I had no living expenses, to go toward a significantly larger expense that they had incurred because of my actions.
