Hi all! Author (Woundlicker) here. My sincere thanks to Ronnie and the team for this excellent narration. The main themes I wanted to explore in this story were sin and redemption, and how people act in a crisis situation, so hopefully the concept worked okay for you all! PS I also write the alien abductions stories under Traveller so thanks to those who have supported this series! Edit - I am planning a sequel to this story which will reveal the fates of Joshua, Sally and Milo.

Geez, poor Milo. Can't say I feel bad for Josh's fate. He might not have wanted to murder Milo, but his cowardice led to his death and prevented Milo's wife from gaining closure. The ex is so manipulative, too. I kind of pity Josh, but that does not excuse his actions, or rather his inaction. A compelling protagonist, don't get me wrong--just one I don't personally like as a person, and I'm sure that was the author's intention. Good story all around.

But, then that little bit of hope that it might end soon is likely part of the torture as well.

With this few people in the line everyone would immediately realize who's making it or not. I expected protagonists to cut in front and manage to secure their good placement only for portals to switch places as some kind of anti line cutting mechanism so they would essentially doom themselves. As usual in these afterlife stories there's never a clear answer at the end.
@Darksomnium7 ай бұрын
ah interesting idea!
@shadowflame687 ай бұрын
I think that's basically what happened - the "doorway of light" was actually the portal to Hell the whole time, not the Vortex. It's like a final test, notice how the people entering the front of the line are described as fighting each other and selfishly trying to get up there, while people at the back of the line include ones like the woman trying to save the man being pulled through, and the man who took someone else's place at the back and calmly accepted his fate.

@@shadowflame68no both portals take u to purgatory but it's a deception to test people, because you mentioned people fighting, well people were fighting in the back that's where the biggest fights took place, however in the front majority of people just crossed the line out of fear, I think the monk figured it out after the man near the light got impatient and went to the light getting incinerated on the spot

The end has me intrigued. When the shadow told Joshua that his sacrifice was futile I wondered if that meant Sally went to Hell anyway. Which leads me to believe that the light and vortex sending people to Heaven and Hell is a red herring (it doesn't matter which one you enter, seeing as the shadows didn't know whether to send Joshua) and conjured by the shadows to observe how people act in extreme situations, to see who they really are. The fact that they count Joshua's "noble sacrifice" can support this. By the same logic, Sally could have gone to hell because all she did was lie, cheat, and deceive her way to the front. I am confused as to why the shadow sounded so certain Joshua "won't see her again, not for a while anyway." If they're deciding, and Sally is in one or the other, how could it know Joshua would meet her as if they were going to the same place? Perhaps there's a pre-destination meet-up place. Very interesting. I'm glad there's a strong possibility Sally went to Hell as smugly as she walked through the light. That would be awesome 😎.

The hint was the guy who sat and embraced his fate at the end of the line. He didn't scream compared to people before him who were terrified. Those that gave themselves for the greater good probably got the "good ending". People like the ex probably got the bad ending and rightfully so. Yea but, what was he doing walking down an unlit 'abandoned' road at night with no light or reflectors? When I walk at night I stay on the sidewalk or side as much as possible- that's just personal responsibility. It sounds like Joshua only briefly looked over to Sally, so presumably before that the road was clear. Meaning Milo possibly even jumped or stumbled out of the woods into the vehicle's path. He should take a bit of personal responsibility for his own predicament. And he sounds like a suspicious guy to me, walking around at night with no light.
@lovesdramas6 ай бұрын
@@mikew3194 I hate to say it, but you kind of make a fair point. Still on Milo’s side obviously and feel bad for him, but he was kind of jay walking in the dead of night. The whole crash scene was really confusing to me though because the way it was described, it did seem like Milo almost kind of just walked onto a street he had assumed was empty. I think Sally and Josh still panicked though because there’s the “it’s always the driver’s fault” saying. I don’t think Milo is suspicious though, just made a fatal mistake. I also think Josh is a better person than people are giving him credit for. He did something horrible like I agree, but I don’t think he deserves eternal damnation. He was obviously in a very emotionally abusive relationship where he didn’t feel like he had control over his life or even himself. He spent so much time trying to give love and affection to others that he forgot to show that love and affection towards himself. It’s quite sad honestly and from the way he talks in the story, he actually sounds like a genuinely good guy, who did a very horrible thing, due to his lack of trust in himself, leaving him incredibly vulnerable to people like Sally.

I have never seen a youtuber that interacts with his fans as much as you. Fame hasn't changed you one bit. I have topics that I favour over creepypastas so your channel is not necessarily my favourite. But as a person you really are. Thank you for being you. Seriously.

Josh sounds like he's potentially even less in the wrong with how Sally comes across as an outright psychopath who is manipulating him the whole time to try to help herself. I'm really curious what the place is like where Sally ended up, but it sounds like the first place is just one final chance to have agency in your own fate when you realize you're already dead and you assume your position in a line is what actually determines it. That way you end up showing what kind of person you really are.

Don't think placement in the line was based on how much of a "virtuous life" you lived, otherwise Sally would be way, way behind both of the other guys, since she's a far worse person. Where Josh's actions were mostly out of cowardice and fear, she was malicious and deceitful. She was the one who planned the whole "drown the car with the body inside" thing, and it was Josh showing remorse for the whole ordeal, while she stayed silent during confrontation with Milo, only to say "honey, let me skip the line, I just made the problem disappear" - which shows complete lack of remorse on her part. Oh, and she also lied about being a loving parent to try and skip the line - and she did that while assuming that she'd be sending the guy for ETERNAL damnation. Just think about that. That is also why I am convinced that she actually played her ex, just like she tried to play Milo. With that said, I think The Line on both ends leads to the same outcome: actual judgement. It won't make sense why, say, a convicted killer would be able to make it to heaven just because they bullshit well - and you can bet some charismatic guy like Ted Bundy would be able to bullshit his way through the line pretty well. Even if not all the way to the front, then far enough from the back to eventually make it to the light in one piece. Why do the whole light and vortex thing then? I think it's just some demon mind games - the whole thing thing is set up without any subtlety, so any person who spends a bit of time in the line would get the general idea of "light gud, dark vortex bad, skip the line u ded", with last part not making much sense because everyone's dead already. Which would lead to people trying any and all things imagineable to skip the line - and you'd imagine that if it actually was futile, that would be the kind of sick entertainment a demon from hell would enjoy watching. Alos, chances are that those who are ready to fight and/or lie their way through would be the ones more likely to actually make it to the light - which doesn't make sense if the whole think functioned as judgement itself. However, if both ends *lead* to actual judgement, even I like the idea that some Ted Bundy type of guy would get through the line thinking he got this all figured out - only to realise he didn't get saved, he got played for a fool, and his futile attempts at bringing his ass to salvation were just an entertainment for the wardens. The time in the line, however, isn't completely futile - as we see with Josh, decisions made there CAN influence the outcome, so you can consider it part demon entertainment, part preliminary sorting. As for the people who break the line and get caught by demons - my best bet is that they don't die (everyone's dead already, remember?). They just get tortured *a bit* for disobeying the order, and then get put back into the line for judgement some time later. Otherwise, trying to book it would be a no-brainer if you're a shitbag: because if anyone had a choice between "i die a painful but quick death" and "i have to suffer for all eternity" - the first one is an obvious way out. Not to mention that even the most virtuous person could probably get scared shitless and try booking it. As a sidenote: at the beginning I had a funny idea that the whole reason as to why there's the line is because there's way more people now. And with more people living in the world, there's more people dying every day - but the afterlife bureacracy can only work so fast, which results in increased waiting time.

If i were to think of an ending past, what we heard. Sally is in hell , and joshua Fates is more of an open ending discussion. They were essentially in purgatory being judge , using the light and darkness has a way of tempting them to make inhumane choice. Joshua was manipulated heavily during the murder but in purgatory, he managed to make the choice. If he didn't make a noble choice, he would be in hell with Sally. Interesting concept.
