I have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan with the 3.6 Pentastar in it. Bought it new. I take very good care of my van. 11 years and not one single issue with that engine or trans. It is just as silent and powerful as the day I bought it. The engine has never been opened and all the factory accessories are still on it. Best damned car I have ever had. It's all about maintenance. Any engine will fail if not properly maintained.

just use good oil and it will last a lot longer, I like pennzoil platinum and at 130,000 step up to 5W30 every 5,000, or 7,000 if you put the miles on fast 5W20 is just too thin at that many miles, all oils lose viscosity over time 5W20 is ok but after 5,000 miles it is really a 5W15 oil

Brother said he’s had his ‘13 Caravan for 11 years with no issues because he takes good care of it. And somebody STILL chimed in to give him some “advice”. You’d think by now he has it figured out by now…

@@autocompletellc9906sometimes you get "lucky" I have a customer with almost 190K on her Grand Caravan. I have taken care of it for the last 10K. Trans fluid never been done. Dropped the pan, new gasket, new filter and new fluid. New coils intake manifold gaskets, new plugs. Still the original oil filter and no tick. I would bet my life I take care of it better than people prior to me.

on that BMW you will need to drop that 2nd tank there is also crossover pipes and hoses (good idea to replace those while you are in there). DO NOT CUT the connectors off the oem hoses (or replacements) and replace with worm clamps. Clear the codes with ISTA or bimmergeeks pro tool. Also - i agree with Alex these pentastars are great engines. they have common problems (like anything else) but i've seen way more of them run well past 250k miles than broke down - there were some manufacturing issues that effected the lifters ("lash adjusters") - but industry wide almost all manufactures had an issue with lifters (from suppliers) for a certain year range. Man if you look after a pentastar it would probably run forever.

Question for you on parts. What do you think of parts from AZ/Adv Auto/Oreilly vs OEM parts (Like Toyota, Mopar, etc..) Are there parts that are fine from either? Are there parts that you think "If I replace this, then I would opt for OEM part, hands down."?

@chrisbradford5893Ай бұрын
I disagree with the restaurant analogy. You go to restaurants for how they prepare the food and the quality of the food they provide. You don't specifically go to a mechanic because of the parts they provide unless it's the dealer or a shop that only uses OEM parts. You go for the combination of workmanship and price.

Ima have to Hard disagree about you guys about " parts" like in what world would any part " from " worthless dealers be a fair price? Youi have Plentyyyy of good reputable manufactures that make OE parts and are still fraction of the part that youd pay from the dealer LOL. Like work on my own cars and learned everything from KZbin and not wanting anyone to work on my cars sense its a waste of time to drive there and get overcharged for easy jobs. But for example dealer wanted like 400$ for one o2 sensor and i paid 150$ its legit the same thing. And fixed issues right away. So im sorry but only a dummy customer would get their wallet destroyed by getting parts to dealer, and those people tend to know nothing about cars and fall for it daily. Now you can make a case for the complete chinese knockoffs like if your gonna pay 40$ for a o2 sensor or a complete set. Well that prolly isnt going to go to well. Always reputable OE makers out there i would give people options too. Charge your rate but at least let them get a oe maker none dealer. Because i have seen parts fail just as fast as a " OE dealer" that pretty much just slap their " brand logo" on that box and call it theirs while they have it made by 3rd party, for example take nissan and other asian cars " sparkplugs" Denso" makes all their plugs etc.. and they slap nissan on it. A random one lets take the Lambo Urus... Its pretty much a audi but they slap that Lambo logo and make you pay an extra 200k LOL! I run a online bussiness and no one can fool anyone if they only knew what prices are really like.
@AlexTheCarDoctorАй бұрын
@@VinnyTheChin11 I don’t disagree with what you’re saying, you have to think of it in a business standpoint for example, if I make $30-$40 off a part and put it on and if it fails, then I’m responsible 100% for part and labor versus if a customer supplied their parts and then they’re responsible for labor that’s been a problem in the past when I used to let Customer supply their own parts. it was too problematic, dealing with angry customers, so I stopped. now, of course if you’re a DIY person that’s a whole different story you save a ton of money. That’s why I make my KZbin videos to help my DIY family
@VinnyTheChin11Ай бұрын
@@AlexTheCarDoctor Well i was also thinking like for example, i have found from personal experience i use " a brand named "Hitachi" " delphi" "beck and arnley" even dorman i have not had issues with parts always match the oem and are right in the middle grounds of price but very good quality and going on 2 years with many parts installed on 3 of my cars zero issues. I understand business wise but at least if you recommend a reputable brand or if the customer has had good experience with the brand from the past. I don't see why not let people use it and just like always sometimes you get a turd no matter where the part is from. But when people bring their part and it's the " part" that fails then i don't see why you can't charge your full labor price again. Because allot of the times these good reputable brands will offer warranty on the parts for a whole year and customers can handle that part for you. If you aren't wanting to turn away customers that don't want to pay for those ridiculous dealer prices.
@AlexTheCarDoctorАй бұрын
@@VinnyTheChin11 not everyone thinks that way, I found out really quickly that some people are crazy and when they don’t get their way all hell breaks loose and on top of that my productivity slows down because of people not bringing the part when they say they are or bring the wrong part speaking from experience.
