LYRICS
I don’t know what happens
but it must be pretty bad
When I can’t find your eyes, I walk home unsurprised
I’m smaller - and I’m mad
i’ll mourn over a weekend
you’ll lose me then
You panic a little
then you’ll want me again
God knows I love you
I’ll let these things be
But I don’t know if I like you
When you do these things to me
now when you touch me
I curl up my spikes
But you stroke them down and I’ll come around as you ask me what I like
And you’ll kiss me like I’m everything
Something in me comes undone
And I’ll wake up in the morning
Knowing once again you’ve gone
God knows I love you
I’ll let these things be
But I don’t know if I like you
When you do these things to me X2
To be honest I don’t blame you
cause when you put me on the side
I clench my fists like a baby
Yeah I scream like a child
Yeah I’ll teach you a lesson
Mark my stupid words
Maybe I’ll break the cycle
Maybe I’ll break you first
god knows you love me
These things must be true
But I don’t know if you like me
When I do these things to you

dodie you're of those artists that's nailed the idea of "the more specific the story is, the more universal it becomes" because your music (both the instrumentals and lyrics) is very specific to you but it is universal and versatile in meaning and emotion? like both your january song and february song is somehow exactly how i've felt for the past month and hearing your verbalize it in your lyrics and the instrumentals it blows my mind every time!

Somehow you always have the best timing when it comes to these songs. Or perhaps it's that these feelings are more universal than we think. There's always people hurting and yet we always feel we're the only one going through this. "God knows I love you, I’ll let these things be. But I don’t know if I like you when you do these things to me". God that line hurts so much. Thank you for making me feel less alone in the hurt.

hiiiiii i literally just commented on your behind the scenes but i came back after watching it to say that the way you describe this shit hits so deep in me. Lemme get on my dumb little soapbox for a second lool- but being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder I experience so much of those manic highs and deep deep lows. This song perfectly encapsulates how it feels to be in a situation or relationship where both people are struggling. You feel this deep hatred for the shit that you allow them to do to you and then you feel like exploding and "breaking" them, and then feel tremendous weird guilt about the way that you're handling it because you dont feel like you should be allowed to be angry. And the lows that I feel tend to make me feel like the worst person in the world, especially when i feel that ive broken them down after they broke me. its a weird balancing act between all of this. and you always but everything i feel into words. The manic highs and impulsive decisions in 4 tequilas down only to be met with the deeeeeeep hate for yourself and guilt in im sorry in build a problem. The depersonalization in before the line and your january song honestly i show to my therapist to help her understand how fucking painful it feels even if it feels a bit dramatic. because it does genuinely feel like the end of the world. The way you write these things and feel this pain and then go on tour and play your pain for us is so raw and real and i commend you for it. I dont know how you survive. Thank you for this, and i cannot wait to see you on march 24th for my birthday. I saw you in october of 2018 and it was seriously one of the best nights of my life. It feels personal. And maybe this is just wishful thinking, but when i went last time, I was at the front barricade close enough to touch the stage. and during one of your songs, everyone was singing and i was the only one loudly singing harmony to it. you smiled at me, or at least id like to believe you did, i was super caught up in the moment. I just hope you know how impactful it was. You inspire my music every time i write it. Ok, that is a looooot of text lol but thank you anyone who has read it, and thank you dodie. much love and luck and cant wait for march's song (my birthday month heheh)
