Yeah, fifty-something divorced dude here. Single dad who still has two kids at home, plenty of cynicism, no time for dating and frankly watching the likelihood of romance ever again fading away like a distant memory... and this song completely transfixed me. Forty something who found Dodie by way of a tee shirt worn by a 53 year old twice-divorced recovering alcoholic dad of two with mental illness who I’m falling for now. He said “Some songs swallow you whole.” This is the first Dodie song I’ve listened to and it brought me your comment, your worries. Don’t you look down, Allan. May the truest love find you. Give up on lamenting, not love. Never love. ❤️

why am i SOBBING dodie why!?! that repeated lyric "no one is waiting or tapping their foot" in the very beginning made me let out a big held-inside sob; it might sound silly but i've struggled so much with being on time to places (due to severe adhd) and people being ashamed of/angry at me because of it... i so badly want a safe, sweet life where the pressure to be good and perfect has faded, and i can just be loved as i am and happy, and take as much as time as i need. this song makes that sound possible. thank you dearest dodie

Somehow this song gives me a vivid image of a 70 year old couple with loads of grandkids looking down on on their loved ones and reminiscing over how it used to be as their names are said the final time. They lived life together and it’s somehow fitting that they are forgotten together. But maybe just maybe a girl with a guitar will remind the world that sometimes the most simple people live the most beautiful lives.

What a beautiful song, thanks Dodie! I think a lot of us would be lucky to have a life like RIchard and Betty :) Life often has a way of sending curveballs your way, with work, health, money, family and other stresses too often distracting you from what is special, so it's important to remember that the so-called mundane things in life can sometimes ground us and allow us to appreciate the most important things in life and each other. For me this could be laughing with my wife like kids about something and nothing, a long hug at the end of a tough day, listening to our 4 year old daughter sing to herself about anything (pure heaven to me) or just enjoying a bike ride, smelling the the morning air as you cycle along the canal to work, passing behind the bakery; the smell of freshly baked bread mixed with the freshly cut grass along the canal, just stopping to enjoy a coffee and a fresh roll. Don't do it now as I've changed jobs and location, but that was the highlight of my day for years :) Diner day is something that we're definitely going to do though. :)

I just keep coming back to this song It sticks with me in a very special way because of how beautiful it is It wasn’t until today that I realized that it was because it made me think of the love my grandparents had for each other Even leaving room for pie at the diner was something we did together every Tuesday (coconut cream to be specific) He and my Nanna met when she was 16 and have been together ever since Of course, it wasn’t always perfect but by the end, they’d built a life like Richard and Betty. Peaceful, perfect, and lovely. My grandpa passed about two weeks ago, and it’s been the most devastating thing to me because he was such a great man, and the love he shared is what inspires songs like this and makes then so beautiful to me

Yesterday i celebrated being 6 months into the relationship i thought i'd never find. We share a home, dreams, highs and lows. I am loved for who i truly am, i feel taken care of, listened to and supported through it all. I am happy beyond what i believed i could ever be. This song made me cry because it feels like it's narrating our life together, it encapsulates the wonderful feelings I'm experiencing and the future i not only dream of, but see becoming truer every day.

“I think we hacked it Maybe we cracked it No there’s no where that I’d rather be” makes my heart feel so full. and then WOW “I still feel it all Since we kissed in the fall After dancing in ‘73 .... my god I feel good with just you by my side” aaaaaah “Make a home in nowhere Make a home with me (Thank god we said goodbye to the city)” feels like an extended metaphor-like on another plane, astrologically, could exist :,,,) so so grateful to witness this and may very very much be watching your personal explanation video:,)

As I'm listening to this song I'm wrapping up my degree and preparing to start the rest of my life and move in with my wonderful partner who is the first person I've ever felt this kind of stable, content, quiet love with. Listening to this song brought tears to my eyes because I feel like I really could be taking the steps to have this life 50 years down the road and that is all I've ever wanted. Thank you for such a beautiful song, dodie
