ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZbin and decided I could have a go and now here we are!

You are such an expert in sheep, but Im afraid your gardening knowledge is not. The tray is to put soil in that you then use to put in the pots. Good use of the tray though. It is great that you teach youngsters to get hands on with the lambing. What a great experience for them.

Very enjoyable video, I didn't mind the length. It's great you have the young apprentices along, it's great experience. I do wish you would take gloves along to the field. It's not that much extra, just need to get in the habit. When you have the apprentices along and they are bare handed they can be exposed to serious diseases from the sheep (brucellosis, listeriosis, streptococcus infections, etc) They (and you) should not take that risk. If they were to contract an illness then you could be held responsible and they could become seriously ill. It only takes 1 time and you never know when that could occur. A veterinary friend of mine didn't use gloves consistently, contracted brucellosis and died from it! Safety is not a sometimes thing so please throw a pack of gloves in the truck, on the ATV and have a glove in your pocket. Thanks and stay safe!

Close enough for the potting tray, it's really for when you are putting seedlings from seed trays/pots into bigger pots. It's so it catches all the compost/soil while filling the plant pots

Cammie, in your “ copious free time” away from the sheep, go watch a few episodes of Monty Don’s BBC “Gardener’s World” and I guarantee in about 2 episodes, you will see the *actual* use for your special lambing adoption juice catching tray. ( Funny thing, we’re in Atlanta, Georgia USA and just as big fans of Monty’s Long Meadow home garden, as we are Sheep Fans🐑❤️)

The ewes are always happy to see you coming if you have small hands! Flock Watch is great once you break the 500 sheep mark. I’m still a traditionalist with a notebook because using an RF tag system adds $40 in cost to every lamb. This is just not feesable in the current market…that and the US Government is trying to burned the small producer with onerous costs…starting next year all medications, vaccines, RF tagging all has to be done through a proper vet. This is going to add thousands of dollars in cost annually. They know what they are doing to small producers and do it anyways to force us out of business. Our government only believes that the giant corporate producers should survive in the market place….which is tied back directly to these large producers having lobbyists who can put millions of dollars in the politician’s pockets…and if it sounds like our government is corrupt….IT IS! Wow, I would have loved an opportunity to lamb and treat sheep when I was that age. I did have a wonderful mentor when I first started with goats in my twenties and then sheep later. Really special that you take time to mentor, not everyone is cut out to do so and it's obvious everyone is enjoying the experience.

It's an ego thing. Always order the biggest size. The tray works for dunking a lamb in birth juices no matter what the gardening task it is designed for. I just used a cut open old feed bag last time I helped out.
