Mat Manning is out on a ratting assignment with a different. Rather than his usual night tactics on the farmyard, he is targeting rats in a garden by day and under the cover of darkness.
After setting up feeding stations to lure the rodents out from the undergrowth, Mat kits up with his FX Dreamline Classic and takes advantage of the daytime and night vision capabilities of the Sightmark Wraith Mini gunsight to make an impressive bag of the scaly-tailed rodents.
Also in this week’s episode, Mat shares some simple but effective tips to help you shoot more accurately with your airgun whether you’re setting your sights on pests or toppling targets in the garden or on the range.

Im lucky I've got a hundred dollar hatsan airtact .22 spinger with a cheap 30 dollar barska scope that loves the very affordable crosman premier hollow points. That twangy gun gets 19 foot pounds of energy and hits dimes at 20 meters. I love it.

Great vid and advice. New airguns often need an initial barrel clean (Hatsan) as they are still contain bore fluid or grease. And you are bang on there... I do enjoy the odd long range shot but far better pest control results by stalking and waiting.

I had the same question. I was wondering if you get so many, that the other ones stop showing up, seeing all the others not moving? Also do you ever need to take a second shot for any of the bigger ones? Why not take a heart shot, when you have a side profile of them??
@colinstubbs8734
@colinstubbs8734 2 жыл бұрын
You don't have to retrieve them, other rats will come out and feed on them and as for Hart and lung shots, they are perfectly fine but quite often they will run a short distance before dropping which will make it more difficult to clean up at the end, even sometimes getting where you can't find or pick them up which can get a bit smelly, happy shooting guy's and always try for a clean kill 👍👍

If you use your gun alot you will need to clean the barrel less. If its not used often surface rust can set it if kept in damper condition or its been out in damp conditions. I have'nt shot air guns since my teenage years but i did shoot regular and never needed to clean the barrel much. A quirt with the legendary miracle wonder product wd40 didnt do it any harm. Shooting now is alot like Metal Detecting its getting harder getting permission to do it. Which is why i eventually stopped doing it. I took up metal detecting instead but i comb the beaches as i dont need to get permission in my area.

Matt....sound words of advice,that a lot..of young shooters.....and seasoned shooters should adhere to....FIELDCRAFT....you cant beat it.....if you can get within 20 yards of a rabbit....your doing something right....in my younger days.....I just used to think that power was the way to go.....until I read a story in air gun world....about an old gamekeeper,with a beat up bsa springer....teaching a young lad,who had the latest airgun,cant remember what he had....but the gamekeeper,set him a challenge,in three hours,who could get the most rabbits,young lad grinned and took the challenge,after the thre hours,the lad beaming from ear to ear came back with three rabbits and plonked them down at the gamekeepers feet,not bad youngsters,but only three....the lad said"well ,what did you get"....nine rabbits,all tied together,were under his coat beside him,lad couldnt believe he got that many with a old bsa with open sights...fieldcraft the gamekeeper said"whats that"lad looking at him puzzled,after all...he had a scope on his,and it cost him three weeks wages.....guy in the store convinced him ....he couldnt miss with this thing....but the lad wanted to learn the art of this thing called.....fieldcraft,it was of course fictional..but after reading it I wanted to be a gamekeeper from then on....42 when i read that story....lol....no,but seriously,after reading that....I started using field craft.....I'm that good..that the rabbits think I'm one of them 😉

That doesn't happen on military uniforms, but if you're wearing a hunting camo, chances are that nobody is trying to spot you through a night vision scope, so the manufacturers don't have to consider how their dyes react to IR light.
