He could have taken DPP which was launched in 2013. NA students after N levels can take a 10week prep programme before 2yr Higher Nitec, still available for current students as of this year

you can search up moe teacher careers on google to read about it but basically for primary school, you can either get a DipEd (teach art/pe/music/MT) or a PDGE (any and every other subject). PDGE needs a degree for any major whereas DipEd needs Alevels/poly diploma/IB diploma.
