For those who didn't listen to the podcast, this car was running 305 rears. A heavily staggered setup does not make a good track car.

It's awesome to hear your thoughts on the Cobb package. I'd love to know what size and type of tires it was running. It seems like a lot of people put fat rear tires on these when they upgrade wheels like it's a GT when it's not. I think going with the "BRZ theory" on this car and running skinnier tires would give it that more playful handling you were seeking since it doesn't have quite enough power to slide wider tires like the GT.

Hey Matt, I know you run the Cobb tune on your EB, but do you think the Livernois tune is good? The people on the forums have been saying that it pushes the most HP out of all the other brands, is it true?
@MattMaranMotoring
@MattMaranMotoring 9 жыл бұрын
+FoolishTuning I don't have any experience with Livernois but from what I read on the forums most people seem happy with it. The Cobb Accessport just has a lot more features. If you want the most HP possible out of a tune, getting a protune dialed in for your specific car is the best way to do that. That's what I'll be doing with mine very soon.

Yup, nailed it. I did t learn until later when I read the tire size that they had gone to a 285 up front and a 305 in back. Made the car essentially un-driftable. I had them put the stock size tires back on for the road drive (tomorrow's video) and it was much better

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?" Seriously I feel like the traction control system was never turned off. The (what sounded like) ABS braking in corners, and lack of wheelspin on launch should confirm this if all of the trouble you were having didn't already. I wonder if it was an issue with the tune, or if the car just need to be reset.

BelviGER tractor-trailer type cab racing (not what American's call tucks, we call them Utes here, they are too light generally to damage the track) is what destroyed my local track in the early 90's - it was a great track until they let enormous tractor cabs race there, within a year it was looking like the one in this video - I stopped going to it after that, it was just horrific, in some places it was so badly cracked my car would bottom out. They fixed it up eventually and it's better than ever now.

If i remember correctly this car had some SERIOUS size tires on it during this filming that caused it to have "too much" grip. I think it was some sort of a SEMA-setup with biggest available tires for the looks. When they went down to normal sizes it behaved much better... Not sure about it, so don't hate if i'm wrong, i just think i heard something like that on their podcast.

@ScottSchubel
@ScottSchubel 9 жыл бұрын
@TheSmokingTire the only thing I can think of is the rear tire being too wide for the car, preventing you to break loose. I increased rear tread on my eco from stock 235 to 275 and it made the rear much harder to break loose. It can still do it, it's just not as "on its toes" as before
@TheSmokingTire
@TheSmokingTire 9 жыл бұрын
This car had a 305 on the back.
@ScottSchubel
@ScottSchubel 9 жыл бұрын
+TheSmokingTire That 305 really makes a planted car though. Although it looks awesome to stuff 305 with the right offset back there, it's just too much tire for the car if you want it to drift. A GT350 uses 305 SuperSports even though it only has nominally more torque that the cobb ecoboost, it has the top end power to keep a 305 from regaining traction.

Matt when it said it was on but the "off" light was on, that wasn't an off light. You made the car go into "ice" mode with the traction control which is even more intrusive than full on. You would need to turn the car off then back on to reset this. Had Cobb of had proper tires on the car, it would of rotated far better.

Harris Hill was built on shifting soil, so the track will always have imperfections no matter what they do to it. COTA has a very deep base layer and even it is starting to show some shifting. Just a downside of where we are located. They should be doing some repaving when they have to modify the track to move it away from a new bypass that will be coming through. Once you get used to the different line that you need to take to stay out of the crappy parts it can be a lot of fun.

+Rene “Kris” Hourian Yeah these new Mustangs are fucking pigs. Mustang was always the lightest muscle car around. Now they're about mid pack. They're selling like hot cakes but I think Ford really screwed up making them even heavier than the last gen with very little power increase. The V6 and V8 are mostly unchanged, so they're both slower in a straight line. It's like rock bands when they go mainstream. If they forget about their core following and kowtow to the masses, long term they're dunzo.

An S13 is like 800lbs lighter is all I'm saying, that's a lot. It's basically the same weight as the Fiesta ST. Just because something is Front engine, RWD, two doors, and has a turbo 4, doesn't mean it's an [Insert Country Name Here] Silvia. It's closer to being an American Genesis Coupe 2.0T than anything else. Pretty sure that's also why Hyundai stopped making them. Can't compete with this car on any level.

The sad, sad sound of unrelenting understeer. Curious what tire setup was on this car. Guessing it had a ridiculous amount of stagger front to rear, exacerbating understeer issues. Most heavy cars need as much rubber as front as they can get. If this car had some sticky 275's front and rear, I bet it would be a lot more fun.
@TheSmokingTire

Dude you're definitely a better drive than I am. And I can get one of these things to slide. Stock tires? Could be grippier ones? Sway bars? Are the tc and stability control both off? Or just tc?

Cobb put huge tires on this.

+Bryan Kendall that would explain it lol. My car broke traction so much more easily when I was on 245s now on 275 huge difference

Cobb went from 255 square to 285 front 305 rear. With only 300 whp, the car is un-driftable with those tires.

The ecotec 'stang definitely oversteers more at low speeds like in tight autox tracks. But all that torque and no burnout???

Didn't know Ford was borrowing Ecotec motors from Chevy. I think the proper term you're looking for is "Ecoboost".

Ouch... I should drink more coffee before posting lol. I still think the stang should spin up the tires... My friends z06 with about the same torque spins 335s or 345s.
@TheSmokingTire
@TheSmokingTire 9 жыл бұрын
+Brodey Dover the torque delivery is much much different though. a Z06 doesn't have a turbo to spool up. And if you're referring to a C5 Z06, 345s really are too wide for the back. If you're referring to a C6 Z06, 400 TQ is quite a bit less than that car actually makes. Plus, the Corvette is about 650 lbs lighter than this car.

The 305 Tires cob fitted to the rear for SEMA don't let it slide. On the stock 255's it would slide just fine

Obviously needs more power, maybe in stage 4 or 5 the COBB people can add e85 maps with bigger injectors, then you will do what you want with the car, my humble opinion!

Id really like a new mustang. Not sure if modifying a V6 would sound better than the ecoboost? I like the way Japanese V6s sound. Not sure if American brands are nicer.

interesting that it wouldn't rotate at all, i have the opposite problem with my '16 GT PP. check out the video i just posted up of my last autocross, constantly fighting oversteer in second and third gear. I thought about an EB, but ultimately with the smoking deals around for the GT(i got 5k off msrp, some have got even more), It is not much extra dough(although the fuel mileage difference is huge). Nice review though Matt!

Seems COBB's sway bar choice and alignment have it setup for under steer. He does not really say it, but you can tell he does not like it. I have my 2015 setup for autocross and it rotates really well and is easier to step the rear end out.
