For those who didn't listen to the podcast, this car was running 305 rears. A heavily staggered setup does not make a good track car.
@MattMaranMotoring9 жыл бұрын
It's awesome to hear your thoughts on the Cobb package. I'd love to know what size and type of tires it was running. It seems like a lot of people put fat rear tires on these when they upgrade wheels like it's a GT when it's not. I think going with the "BRZ theory" on this car and running skinnier tires would give it that more playful handling you were seeking since it doesn't have quite enough power to slide wider tires like the GT.
@FoolishTunings9 жыл бұрын
Hey Matt, I know you run the Cobb tune on your EB, but do you think the Livernois tune is good? The people on the forums have been saying that it pushes the most HP out of all the other brands, is it true?
@MattMaranMotoring9 жыл бұрын
+FoolishTuning I don't have any experience with Livernois but from what I read on the forums most people seem happy with it. The Cobb Accessport just has a lot more features. If you want the most HP possible out of a tune, getting a protune dialed in for your specific car is the best way to do that. That's what I'll be doing with mine very soon.
@TheSmokingTire9 жыл бұрын
Yup, nailed it. I did t learn until later when I read the tire size that they had gone to a 285 up front and a 305 in back. Made the car essentially un-driftable. I had them put the stock size tires back on for the road drive (tomorrow's video) and it was much better

BelviGER tractor-trailer type cab racing (not what American's call tucks, we call them Utes here, they are too light generally to damage the track) is what destroyed my local track in the early 90's - it was a great track until they let enormous tractor cabs race there, within a year it was looking like the one in this video - I stopped going to it after that, it was just horrific, in some places it was so badly cracked my car would bottom out. They fixed it up eventually and it's better than ever now.

@ScottSchubel9 жыл бұрын
@TheSmokingTire the only thing I can think of is the rear tire being too wide for the car, preventing you to break loose. I increased rear tread on my eco from stock 235 to 275 and it made the rear much harder to break loose. It can still do it, it's just not as "on its toes" as before
@TheSmokingTire9 жыл бұрын
This car had a 305 on the back.
@ScottSchubel9 жыл бұрын
+TheSmokingTire That 305 really makes a planted car though. Although it looks awesome to stuff 305 with the right offset back there, it's just too much tire for the car if you want it to drift. A GT350 uses 305 SuperSports even though it only has nominally more torque that the cobb ecoboost, it has the top end power to keep a 305 from regaining traction.
@LibertyFirst17897 жыл бұрын

Harris Hill was built on shifting soil, so the track will always have imperfections no matter what they do to it. COTA has a very deep base layer and even it is starting to show some shifting. Just a downside of where we are located. They should be doing some repaving when they have to modify the track to move it away from a new bypass that will be coming through. Once you get used to the different line that you need to take to stay out of the crappy parts it can be a lot of fun.

They're selling like hot cakes but I think Ford really screwed up making them even heavier than the last gen with very little power increase. The V6 and V8 are mostly unchanged, so they're both slower in a straight line. It's like rock bands when they go mainstream. If they forget about their core following and kowtow to the masses, long term they're dunzo.
@bagelbytes694209 жыл бұрын
+Bill Bradsky The V8 in the new 2015s has a fair amount of changes that make them tune to higher power easier. Stock, yes they are slower by a tad, but tuned they are much faster and they handle worlds better than my 2013 ever will.

An S13 is like 800lbs lighter is all I'm saying, that's a lot. It's basically the same weight as the Fiesta ST. Just because something is Front engine, RWD, two doors, and has a turbo 4, doesn't mean it's an [Insert Country Name Here] Silvia. It's closer to being an American Genesis Coupe 2.0T than anything else. Pretty sure that's also why Hyundai stopped making them. Can't compete with this car on any level.
@ninonessuno48149 жыл бұрын

The sad, sad sound of unrelenting understeer. Curious what tire setup was on this car. Guessing it had a ridiculous amount of stagger front to rear, exacerbating understeer issues. It would easily compete with a GT for less and they don’t want that

interesting that it wouldn't rotate at all, i have the opposite problem with my '16 GT PP. check out the video i just posted up of my last autocross, constantly fighting oversteer in second and third gear. I thought about an EB, but ultimately with the smoking deals around for the GT(i got 5k off msrp, some have got even more), It is not much extra dough(although the fuel mileage difference is huge). Nice review though Matt!

Seems COBB's sway bar choice and alignment have it setup for under steer. He does not really say it, but you can tell he does not like it. I have my 2015 setup for autocross and it rotates really well and is easier to step the rear end out.

"Still working on it as I drive it" translates to, maybe go with a more modest tire upgrade like 275's instead of 305's.

Unfortunately even if you put a new Mustang in Track mode, you can never truly turn stability control off.
