Considering the almost 20k price difference between the Ecoboost Mustang and the Mustang GT I would say the Ecoboost is a pretty decent choice. For less than 20k you can have as much power as the GT but have less weight....not a bad end result in my opinion.

The access port is amazing. It totally transformed my turbo mustang. Five different power maps that you can scroll through while driving down the street. You can have one for 93 octane another for race gas another for ethanol and economy mode etc. Flatfoot shifting for manual transmissions, launch control, burnout mode, Datalogging capabilities, real-time gauge monitoring. It really is the best all-around tuning device out there.

@anthonygonzalez94229 жыл бұрын
+1compaqedr8 Depends on the fuel and mods. On 93 octane 12s is very doable. On a race blend like E30, E85 or Meth there are close to a dozen Ecoboosts in the 11s on the stock turbo.

Great video again! You guys both hit on all the great points of the ecoboost mustang. Awesome low-end and mid-range power for fun daily driving, while still getting better fuel economy than the GT, paying less for insurance and saving ~6k on msrp. Like you said Matt, a great "starter" Mustang. The only drawback for me is the sound. The turbo sounds are cool but the V8 will always sound better in my opinion. Regardless, I still love mine.

I'm glad this new motor is bringing in buyers that probably would have not considered it but I really don't get the appeal over the 3.7 v6. mine was making 290 + to the wheel with just basic bolt ons and tune and now is well over 400 with a ProCharger. That's all on 8 pounds of boost and there's still room to go. I don't think you'll be getting those kind of numbers out of bed four cylinder without a turbo upgrade so it would probably end up costing just as much. Also not to brag but I still get 32mpg at 80 miles per hour on the highway.
@Blonde_Cyborg9 жыл бұрын
+Joshua C because the ecoboost is forged from factory, turbo will make more tq than your procharger, priced the same but money spent equally on both the ecoboost will be quicker and a more well balanced car... there are plenty of good reasons

There is a turbocharged 3.7 in Houston putting down 550whp. It's an s197 mustang and not the new s550 though. I didn't see why Ford cut the v6 mustang since they still make v6 trucks. It used the same motor as the basic v6 in the f150. Seems like a waste to not offer that in the more budget market.

Just a heads up alot of stage 3 cobb tuned ecoboosts are getting blown motors. If you're lucky and have a cool dealership like one near me who just covered 2 cobb 3 tuned blown engines. They just require you to bring it back to factory stock to pass fords initial inspection. Disclaimer! Note that this isn't the case everywhere and dealerships will tell you anything for a sale and services, so you have to go by their word, which usually isn't worth much so you better know them before relying on their word.
@jo23bulls6 жыл бұрын
Good to know. Is there a reason why they're blowing up? I have an ecoboost and was considering cobb.
@Dante_S550_Turbo6 жыл бұрын
it has to do with the exhaust port shared by cylinders 2&3. It's restrictive and under high boost it can cause exhaust reversion where the pressure builds up too much forcing the exhaust gasses back into the combustion chamber causing detonation. The weakest link fails, sometimes a rod. Best case scenario it just lifts the head off the block and you'll need a new head gasket & head bolts, preferably studs. Sadly the exhaust manifold is integrated into the head of the 2.3L so a simple aftermarket header is not an option. The next best thing if you don't want to take the head off to port & polish the 2&3 exhaust port is to got with a turbo upgrade with a custom exhaust flange that is more open, The stock one & the turbo both share the same shape & size of the exhaust port for 2&3 further increasing the restriction. That won't make exhaust inversion impossible, at least it hasn't been thoroughly tested to prove it can prevent it. These cars also let some exhaust gases back in through the exhaust valve eliminating the use of an egr valve, that may also be the introductory point for the exhaust reversion.

I also thought the GT would swallow too much gas but with the way I drive this EB I'm getting about 13mpg in the city which is almost half of what I expected. On the highway tho it gets 36mpg easy all day cruising at 80mph.. unfortunately I barely drive on the highway as I live in a big city.

it is my understanding that direct injection engines in general are best at the mid-range of the rpm, and are not good at the top end due to the high pressure fuel pumps not being able to provide enough fuel at the top end. It is hard to make a direct injection engine perform well (with respect to the mid range) over 5500 rpm...

The downside is the turbo is nearly maxxed stock.

+GT7786 In the Camaro the turbo 4-cyl will be the base, and the V6 the mid option. I'm fine with what Ford did here, except for the fact that the V6 Mustang somehow gets worse gas mileage than it did in 2014 so that the ecoboost would be more attractive.

+Adam S (Dolby109) They added weight by switching to independent rear suspension. That is why mpgs went down.
@Dolby1099 жыл бұрын
5rocklobsters Weight has less effect on highway fuel economy than CoD. Supposedly the new Mustang has a better CoD, so there is little reason the V6 should get worse fuel mileage. Suspect conspiracy...I do.

+Adam S (Dolby109) Actually the V6 MPG went down because of the differently (in a bad way) shaped intake manifold because the previous one wouldn't fit under this hood.

A turbo v6 would be engine that would get me to consider a mustang.lol Love what they have done with the 4 cylinder ecoboost though. seems like a god car and value

+chris pinks Why not just the GT? V6 turbo's don't usually sound all that great as the GTR, and ATS-V serve to prove. A TwinTurbo V6 would likely cost as much to produce as the V8 does, and not offer much if any benefit over the V8 (aside from gas mileage possibly), so I just don't see it happening on the Mustang.

GTR sounds great to me with aftermarket exhaust. Guess it's personal taste

+Adam S (Dolby109) who cares what it sounds like. Ford already produces a ttv6. a ttv6 would kill the v8 gt

I would probably stick to the factory tire size. At this power level there is no reason to add rotational mass to make the car slower.
