It’s wild how the manual transmission has become a rarely available luxury. I don’t care how much faster automatics are - I prefer a more engaging driving experience 100% of the time, over being able to get to 60mph 0.2 seconds faster about 0.1% of the time I’m in the car.

This car would have been nice, if unexceptional, if they had called it the ILX. The problem is they resurrected the Integra name specifically to appeal to enthusiasts, hyped it up as a performance car, and even implied it would be their new halo car to replace the NSX - then they revealed an overpriced, warmed over Civic Si. And to add insult to injury, the deleted a lot of features from the Si to make the Integra look better!

THey didn't just hype it in the normal sense, they has a VERY different body shape shown to the public up to the day of the launch. It was far more like the RSX, then they changed it to a Civic shape simply for an extra 1" rear headroom over the 94-01 chassis. Nobody is going to buy this simply as a cattle car for adults when the bulbous Civic already does for less.

Your conclusion is spot on Zack. Understanding this isn't the enthusiast version, but lets hope Acura is listening and provides the 'fan boys/girls' with something special down the road. Your closing comments are probably the most legit view I’ve heard on this car. In the same way that I think of Boss 302 and GT350 when I think of Mustangs; the same applies to old Integras with great memories of GS-R and type R variants. However, far more automatic, v6 mustangs are sold than even regular GT models and WAY more 1st through 3rd Gen Integras were LS models versus the hyper active 4 cylinders we all came to love. Hopefully they sell enough of this version to warrant the development of a type S we all want to buy. Cheers!

I would expect more for 8k difference from the Si Either on performance or interior quality Given that the Si already did a pretty great job at its price point. I find it hard to justify paying 8k for Acura badges, integra stamp, adaptive suspension and just slightly more premium interior. Not to mention other competitors, like the GTI, GLI, Hyundai's N cars, Subaru Wrx which are also in this price range. If I am in the market, I would only consider the integra if interior comfort and premium feel are my main concerns.

You don't buy a WRX for the interior. I recently got out of an Impreza that I had as a loaner for a few weeks while my VA WRX was getting some work done. That little Impreza was more comfortable, quieter, and had an overall fit and finish that was higher than my WRX ever could be, all while being ~$5,000 cheaper. Cars like that and the SI are not designed for long commutes. People looking for that while also wanting a little bit of fun are going to be looking at this car.

You can make the case that the Integra was always just a more refined Civic, but I think that doesn't diminish the disappointment, it just pushes it onto the Civic and how much less interesting it is now with it's lower redline, higher curbweight, and lack of 3-door. The Civic sort of has the 911 GT3 effect where everybody's talking about how great the Type-R is, and not how uninteresting the base, Si, and subsequently the Integra have become.

My biggest problem with the Integra is what Honda did with the Civic Si. Took away the amenities that the 10th gen Si already had, including adaptive dampers and then raised the cost of the 11th gen Si $2K. Then, added them all back into the top trim Integra A-Spec with Tech Pkg for $8K more. $8K more and you don't even get rear vents. I haven't paid any attention to Acura for a very long time, but I think this Integra is well worth the price difference over a Civic, especially in a manual because of the mechanical LSD. I’m glad to see Acura bring back the Integra name plate. The introductory models remind me more of the LS and GS trim lines. Hopefully we see a GS-R or Type R variant, most likely as a type S. I’ll probably carve out some time in the next month or two and try to test drive one as I have fond memories of my RSX when I was in my 20’s but this isn’t a market I look at anymore. It feels like Acura/Honda are trending back in the correct direction after making such a hard reversal at the end of the 2000’s with their product line up.

The reason why the civic coupes stopped selling well was because Honda started making HUGE bubbly coupes and they turned off those people that know what a proper Honda civic/integra should be like. They'd sell again if they went to their 90s and early 2ks formula (20k-30k dollar cars , 3k or less weight, lower center of gravity, reliable 4banger na or turbo and yeah maybe even make them 4 doors its really the overall size of the car that matters.) Compare a db8 integra to this school bus, the difference is insane and the db8 will feel a hell of a lot sportier . .. Acura is crap now. They think everyone wants a luxury packed suv, TSX, wannabe tsx("integra") , or a $100k super car. They couldn't be more WRONG. They expect to make a school bus and slap "integra" on it and people will just buy it 😂. I'd rather just go buy a beat dc2 with some rust and rebuild it than buy this brand new POS.
@robertblack6630
@robertblack6630 2 жыл бұрын
Then don't buy it. Though I highly doubt you can even buy a new car anyway. But for me I rather not build a old integra that only will get 20 mpg vs high 30's mpg in the new one while gas is over $5 per gallon. I can buy this I get full bumper to bumper warranty. Then i get a car that is very comfortable, every feature I need with a hatchback that still has a excellent manual transmission and engine combination. Attacking the car because they didn't build a race car is ridiculous because this car has the best bang for you buck with a hatch. If they built what you want it would get less then 30 mpg and cost 45k thats not a entry car into Acura.

Regarding cell-only navigation - absolutely a concern. I don't think I've done a roadtrip longer than three hours where I haven't lost data at some point. Having access to the car's onboard sensors and movement also makes dead-reckoning navigation much more reliable and precise than using the sensors on a mobile device - which is especially nasty when underground, in a tunnel, or in city-center building canyons. The partial solution I've found is using the HERE map app. I'm not sure if it's available on iOS, on Android it allows you to download full mapsets of any size as long as you have the capacity on your device. You can download by state, country, territory, or even continent. I have all of NA downloaded and it's definitely saved me several times as all the map data is local and you only need a GPS fix for full offline navigation.

You're right, we're lucky it's not an SUV and we should be thankful for any half decent new sedan or hatchback at this point. I appreciate you explaning the history of the Integra, how it was always Civic based, how most were normal trims, not crazy high performance models, so hopefully that can educate some of the keyboard warriors on the interwebs. It's also good to note how the car industry has changed and there isn't the same market for coupes, so we aren't going to see many cars like that. We need to remember that in the third gen, most performance Integras were the GS-R, and the Type R was low production so rare, and expensive.

The first time I saw an Integra was my dad's 1990 Acura Integra GS in silver, 3-door. The only reason he got rid of it was because us kids were getting bigger, so he traded it in on a 1993 Acura Vigor LS 4-door, which had a pretty potent I-5 in it. Maybe I was spoiled growing up, my dad having a Thunderbird, Toronado, Riviera, Corvette, Cougar, Trans-Am so I guess my perception of nostalgia is skewed, I understand the market is changing and people are terrible for making the market SUV and quad-cab pickup hell. But I don't want a 4-door Integra. I appreciate the nostalgic nod, but maybe if it had a 2L maybe 225HP and say 250HP Type-R car, hell yah brother. I'll be seriously interested. But it's outclassed in power and feel of most other things these days. It's not terrible, but it needs to stand out and I dunno. Modern Honda/Acura designs just don't grab me like they did in the 90's and 2000's. Heck, cheap electric cars will have more power and range and feel faster. I dunno. Here's hoping they can add lightness and power for a Type R version and clean up that front end a bit.

I'm so used to the VW GTI being the lowest powered hatch on the market...it always balanced performance luxury and affordability. However, the GTI is pumping 240 hp and 270/280tq. WTF was honda thinking? The TLX is a fat pig that gets beat by everything, and the new Integra is so low-powered it's practically a joke compared to its own competition and cars below its market target.
@PorscheRacer14
@PorscheRacer14 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrMduchesne23 Yah it's a bit rough, but I guess we aren't the target market. I mean, if I want something that barely makes 200HP, and is sporty and 2-door, I'm going back to the 80's-90's and looking at a Grand National or 944 Turbo/944 S2. I know they are old but they are unique and have that sporty driving sense and feeling. And they look cool, at least to me. Or, I'd even look at a 2000's GSR/Tupe-R or RSX.

I feel like Acura positions themselves in the same league of Lexus and Genesis but I don’t agree there. When people think of those brands, they think of luxury. When people think of Acura, they think of the sportier cars like the Integra coupe. They’re in the middle of an identity crisis. Charging nearly $8,000 more for this than the Civic SI when the differences are so minor is a real shame, on top of it being a shame that they called this the Integra knowing that it would stir up hype all to let it fall flat on it’s face. It’s like the Mustang Mach E. I get why you made it what you made it, but you shouldn’t have called it what you did, because calling it that evokes a certain expectation and neither of those cars match what people think of when they think of the model name

I honestly like it quite a bit. It's good looking, priced reasonably, has a straightforward interior without the gimmicky electronic shifter and jumbo-central-dash-knob of almost every other Acura, and even offers a manual (a good one!) and a hatch when almost no one else will. There's nothing wrong with this new Integra that a Hondata tune, and some better tires can't fix. Do I wish they offered the next Civic Type-R powertrain along with SH-AWD in a performance spec? Absolutely. Does it need this to be a good sport sedan? No.
