Suggestion for you girls, for gluing pieces like the wall sconce there are much better alternatives to hot glue and super glue. Five minute, two part epoxy is cheap and readily available at any hardware store. Or even E6000 adhesive from the craft store.

I have worked at both craft stores and hardware stores, and I can confirm - two part epoxies or E6000 are a godsend.

Vintage, boho items such as thrift store items are becoming mainstream and the aesthetic nowadays so people are going for abstract, organic decor by thrifting and leaving items as it. I know, don't have any here either :'(
@secondhandmuse63745 жыл бұрын
You should open one 😝 everywhere should have thrift shops!
@BelindaShort5 жыл бұрын
@@secondhandmuse6374 One reason that a lot of places don't have them is that they don't have a lot of 'throwaway' culture the way that is more popular some places. I know a lot of people who change their decor often, but that's not popular everywhere and instead of acquiring more, people use what they have so there is less of a need for thrift shops.
@secondhandmuse63745 жыл бұрын
Belinda Short while I really respect and admire that (and wish we were more like that in the states!) I’d be surprised if there was absolutely no need for them at all - people still grow and go through different stages of life with different needs that I hate for that stuff to end up in landfills (though that still happens in the states as well, I once saw a woman toss a perfect condition Kate Spade purse in a dumpster 😩)
@slipperydick5 жыл бұрын
@@BelindaShort I think it has a lot to do more with the fact that recycling just isn't a thing in some places. There have been thrift shops in the 80s and it definitely wasn't throwaway culture at that time. Thrifting was something poor people had to do, I was mocked for my thrift store clothes. And I think in some places that's still rooted in deep, thrifted things can make you look dirty or poor (when actually you can get really good stuff) laziness is also one thing, even if thrifting is really trendy right now in my country, a lot of good designer stuff still manages to end up in the landfills, usually when they renovate old apartments (they bring these huge metal containers where you can dump your stuff, luckily people on facebook are really active and tell where they are located, you can find really expensive things from them) People also die, their clothes, furniture, etc. also has to go somewhere? I don't know anyone who changes their decor often, I guess it's also a generation thing? Since millenials are mostly poor. My favourite thing is always to brag how cheap my home decor was, my furnitures are mostly things that were free and broken and I just fixed them :,) To the other people saddened that their areas don't have thrift shops: are you really sure? I think sometimes they can be hidden, search if your area has local recycling center, here usually cities have one (they also accept electrical waste etc.) search if your city/town has any facebook groups that donate or sell used goods or maybe you can start one? I'm sure people have things that are useless to them and instead of giving them to someone, they just end up putting them into trash. Good luck!!

The one's that look all plasticy I agree, but you can get some that have that waxy look and they look nice. Also, its hard to tell when the lights are off.
@mariafloruss67295 жыл бұрын
In our family, we always have real candles on the tree. ^^' no tea lights though, but special Christmas tree candles, that go out about 1cm before they are burned though. They are about 10 cm tall and thin and go on the outer most branches of the tree. You have to be careful to get them straight and to not have anything above the burning candle of course. And toward the end of the season, when the tree is dry, we don't light them anymore. But there's nothing more beautiful as a real candle Christmas tree, so it's definitely worth it for us. :) It's just so cozy...

@TheSorryGirls: The wood holder actually holds pipes. My papaw (great-grandfather) was an avid pipe smoker & loved his many pipes. He had one of these on the mantle in his house for many years. The man smoked a pipe right up until he died, just shy of 100yrs old. An FYI: The tubular glass vase is actually a bud vase for placing a single flower, usually a rose, for display.

I think the winter scene was a great idea! However, I think it would be worth looking into terrarium construction, and how to maximize the space of the vase you picked out. Creating more depth, and choosing more elegant pieces to fill it would take this DIY to the next level! (In my own opinion of course). Great job though! Such an original idea.
