We thought that we were coming to see an Optician but we were wrong… You are an Optical Tailor, and the glasses you helped us choose fulfil all of the points in this video. I’d like to think that one day all Opticians will be like The Spectacle Factory, but sadly I don’t think they ever will.

I'd be content with them being people with some genuine interest in their work and the needs (including eye vision and health) of their potential customers. Integrity is even more essential, and lacking, than talent and ingenuity. That, too, looks far-out from what can be hoped presently. It's part the fault of customers, who have no familiarity with eye health, as well as eye wear, culture.

Your point about tints is new to me. I've watched a fair number of your videos, but this is the first time I've seen the difference tints make.

So glad you are dispelling the myth of face shape. So many websites have enshrined this into law. It's so pervasive that even on Reddit, people now just post a selfie without glasses and ask, what glasses would look good on my face shape.
@thespectaclefactory2 ай бұрын
Thanks 👍 it's definitely a big problem which holds people back

Yes, alright, and much agreed. However: that is not a myth devoid of any truth. It just doesn't have to be absolutized.

One thing I’ve noticed with the Alvar, and it became really clear when you pointed out how the tint helps them look better, the shade of copper that is used is also night and day. Yours is a little more subtle, toned down, which I’ve noticed even from your earliest videos with it. Most of the ones made after that that I’ve seen have had an extremely vibrant copper that can look either really good or really cheap. And I know it isn’t cheap, but it does look almost like a corner was cut there of some sort. I don’t mind if it’s more vibrant, but I’d almost call it an orange instead of a copper.

That pair of teal Reykjavik eyes Asla glasses have been my most complimented pair at work from my patients. Goes really well with several of my scrubs or shirts and ties. Also thanks for thinking of my job when suggesting the sapphire flash instead of the diamond flash I was thinking of getting originally so that my eye contact with my patients wouldn’t be impaired. Great points in this video and you really practice what you preach here when you help us select our perfect pair of glasses. Thank you.

The first problem I find with choosing new specs, is that without glasses on, I can't see what they look like, the next big problem is I find I need to wear them for a few hours , to really tell if the fit is right as I find all the glasses I have end up sliding down my nose...

Can you do an update on newer fast frames ? I love the info videos of course but i love the brand showcases even more , that and showing off different lens tints/ photocromics ❤

Choosing glasses that have the right distance to the eyes for the application you’re going to use them for is also very important, I have a pair of Lindberg glasses that sit near the end of the nose bone (to keep them away from the eyebrows and cheeks) and I can’t use them to shoot rifles fitted with a scope. I like luckily have two other pairs of smaller glasses (a Masunaga and a BlackFin) that sit closer to the eyes and are perfect for shooting a rifle fitted with a scope.

This is a major point which a lot of us need to pay a lot of attention to. I have landed up with one pair of progressive sunglasses, one pair of clear night glasses for driving and one pair for reading within limited office space. And one more to show off😂

Great video!!! Thank you for taking the time to really go in depth about the process. I wasn’t too into tint before but the tint on the Alvars that you created for me is a 1000% night and day difference. Comfortable to wear day and night, they look amazing with any attire I choose, and are perfect for work and leisure! 🙏🏽

8:10 I understand that tinted lenses are an appearance boost. However, having colours altered from their "truth" upsets me and spoils it for me. Even grey Photofusion lenses indoors do that to me. Thus, yes, I could have tinted lenses, and photochromic lenses... from the third pair of glasses on. As for #10: I can attest to that. Don't "settle" when you pick them: you will regret it as you wear them all day every day, if they are one of your only two pairs.

Hey Robert! Great video as always. One question if I may, the acetate frames could be easily adjusted to fit properly in terms of width to avoid pressure points, but what about sturdy titanium frames, like Porsche Design aviators, say 8478 for example? I do not believe heating those bring much😅 Keep up the great work, got serious about my eyewear thanks to you😎

Hey Robert ! Huge fan, you really opened my eyes on the eyewear world. I have 2 questons: 1. What do you think about Gast, and in general, starting to use 3 barrel hinges instead of the sturdier 5 (i.e. the Riva) 2. Using sunglasses specific frames as optical frames Thanks a bunch and keep it up ! ps. hope you recover your IG account asap
@ikarugaxx37492 ай бұрын
_ Using sunglasses specific frames as optical frames_ Well, the fashion trends over the late years have made it possible to use what's sold as opticals for sunglasses, and vice-versa, _in some cases_. A "not so thick" frame intended for sunglasses use, and a "thick-ish" frame intended for opticals use may enable you to do the switch. Consider the match between the lenses you want and frame colour carefully before proceeding.

Hi! Random quesiton for you: I'm debating between a JF Rey frame and an IC Berlin frame. They both appear to be made from a flexible titanium. Are these two frames comparable in terms of durability? I want to not ever have to worry about them breaking as a beautiful Matsuda frame I purchased just broke after barely a year (not to mention constant loosening of screws). For reference, its the 3022 JF Rey frame and the "Hiro" model from IC Berlin. I appreciate your help!
@ikarugaxx37492 ай бұрын
Those are all high-quality makes. The same goes for the Matsuda, though. It may have been an unlucky unit... or the wrong fit for you, or it was handled poorly.
@THETunaCasserole2 ай бұрын
@@ikarugaxx3749 Thanks for the reply! I will take responsibility for the eventual break, but not the screws starting to loosen the moment I got them. In any case, I want a frame that doesn't need to be treated super lightly. I know IC Berlin fits the bill, but haven't heard as much about the durability of JF Reys...but JF Reys look so much more unique than IC Berlins and would really rather go with those if they are similarly durable
@thespectaclefactory2 ай бұрын
You should really get Reykjavik Eyes, but if not then IC! The screws coming loose is probably because the lenses were installed too tightly
