Kudos to you sir you did it again. Making astute analysis with common sense.I too have airbrushed on and off for decades and still to this day honestly it’s a pain in many ways. It’s almost like it hinders you from achieving a simple thing - a nice paint job. With the adjusting, resetting, changing needles , tips this or that cleaning on and on. And I’ve used them all from cheap to ultra expensive- there still the same in most ways.But it’s just a tool and not the be- all of creativity. I hope people realize it’s your mind and hand that are the ultimate tool . You have made your comments very honestly. Why would anyone want to fight and struggle with a hobby? Do I need another airbrush ? No. But this one looks fun- and that’s a huge part of my hobby- having fun. I hope you keep having fun with your hobby.

It’s only the brush that comes in the box. With 0.45 needle of course. As for chrome, at Gaaheris price point I can’t see it really being chrome. Chrome plating is every expensive. It may look chrome but I’d guess it’ll be a similar plating that will crack and peel off over time.

Can I use revell enamel colors for this? I read that they can be harmful to airbrushes with rubber seals or O-rings and I was wondering if they are safe to use for this airbrush
@thestateofplay20234 ай бұрын
Most airbrushes are designed for most paints. O-rings and stuff will wear no matter what you use. You’ll be fine. Airbrushes are pretty solid machines. To be honest you may have a better experience as revel thins nice and smooth. Just remember to use a good mask and a booth as spray enamels is toxic.
@MarkWidner Жыл бұрын
What compressor would you recommend for a beginner to go with the ultra?
@thestateofplay2023 Жыл бұрын
Hmm, good question. I’m not a fan of cheap anything tbh as they often break quickly, don’t create enough pressure or are just inferior. Plus, you aren’t a beginner for very long so you’ll end up buying a new one meaning you’ll spend twice. My advice. Buy a good one and learn well. I found Sparmax to be a good shout. As long as it has a tank that refills while you’re spraying you should be good. It’ll look like two tanks on top of each other.

So i've been looking at airbrushes compressors etc. WHat isn't explained on any shop website or anywhere is how do i know whcih fitting or hose from the compressors will fit an airbrush? Are there different fittings? some compressor come with hoses so how would i know which hose will fit when most shops dont actually say which fitting the brushes use. Basically trying to find out exactly what to buy and whats compatible is a bit of a mystery for a uk shopper. I was looking at this brush with a sparmax compressor with a air tank. Actually the one in your link. What hose would i need to make these work together? cheers
@thestateofplay20232 ай бұрын
If the compressor comes with a hose it’ll fit the compressor. For the brush you’ll need to check with the brand. You can’t help with cheaper brands as they could use almost anything but 1/8″BSP is the most common thread size in the airbrush world, which includes many Brands like Harder & Steenbeck, Iwata and Sparmax . Airbrush Brands like Aerograph, Aztek, Badger, Paasche have unique threads and often need connectors or adaptors to attach to hoses.

Great review! Still waiting for mine to arrive and I'm super excited to enter the airbrush world with such an amazing beginner friendly tool. @thestateofplay2023 Жыл бұрын
You can block the whole end with a pen top. However I don’t recommend blowback. I know loads of people do it but it pushes paint the wrong way in your airbrush. Delighted that this airbrush is getting such good reviews. Saw the advertising spiel I while back and though oh lord another gimmick but ended up so impressed in what I was being shown that I took a chance preordered one. I wish this brush had been around when I first started. When they say you don’t need an expensive brush to start with they are right. This one is looking like a great entry price brush that will help teach you proper trigger technique. I broke the trigger on my 0.4 cheap Chinese brush which I use for the every day jobs & this is its replacement. Thanks for the informative review.

Is it an Iwata Neo? If so this should be a step up. If you’ve got an HP or eclipse then this may make things easier but those are still very good brushes.

The old ultra is still my daily driver airbrush and this one looks even better. I have the Kyiv Infinity series brush too, and while I love it, I mostly do priming and basecoating and the Ultra is fantastic for that. I only pull out the infinity when I want to do fine detail, although it could do everything I feel less nervous doing something dumb with the Ultra. I am actually tempted to try the new one, just because it is a neat design.

I’m so lazy I have different brushes with different needle sizes. So I can grab the one I want. But this new one really changed my view.

If I ever buy another airbrush, I'll definitely give this one a look see. My current one is an ancient Testors model that was meant to run off canned air. With some adaptors and a ball valve from Harbor Freight, it now runs off the air compressor in my shop. Yup, I have an airbrush I can blow up a truck tire with! At least until a cow got into the shop and broke the end off the air hose.

@@thestateofplay2023 lol, I still use my Grex, so that one may end up not getting used. My first one was an Iwata HP-CS and it went to the “drawer”. I hated that one. That is when I found the Grex and it kept me in airbrushing. Looked at H&S back then as well.

With the rise of budget airbrush brands I've been wondering how the high end brands will stay relevant for modeling/minis where maximum precision isn't necessarily required. It seems like this is H&S's answer, and qute a good one. Lots of genuinely useful features and a competitive price point.

Hey there, really great video! If I can share with you one advice that helped me a lot stop ruining a lot of airbrushes is to always push out the needle in front for cleaning. The dried paint on the needle scratches the needle seal at the back every time slowly damaging it.
@thestateofplay2023 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I usually do but in the video I hadn’t used it yet. Also the new engineering on this thing moved the seals for beginners who pull back, so it’s not as much of an issue. They thought of everything!

Thanks for another great video. I like the thought they put into the engineering of their product, but my hands can’t take the top trigger for the amount of time I airbrush. I normally try to do a huge batch at a time, and the last time I used a top trigger, my index finger was number for a couple of days. I use the iwata hand trigger models and find they are much easier. All of your simplifications to how to think about airbrushing really help! I know you were just passing on tips, but I loved the fist and two finger tip.

I wish this airbrush had been available when I started learning a couple years back. I bought the older version of the Ultra, with a much too small for noobs 0.15 needle. I fought through way too many clogs and issues along the way and eventually bought a more expensive airbrush before learning that the needle size was my main issue. I wouldn't have needed to buy a more expensive Infinity to deal with my crappy trigger control and would have probably used it a lot more since it wouldn't have been so frustrating.
@thestateofplay2023 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that smaller needle thing got me frustrated. I’d just got my paint where I wanted and then had to learn to thin again for a 0.15. 🤣 Good learning exercise though.

Hi, Im probably asking a really stupid question- I want to upgrade from my cheap Fengda to this bad boy but I dont have quick release on my compresor hose (as I dont need it, I use only one brush at the time). Can I still connect the Ultra to my compresor? Thanks in advance and thanks for great overview video
@thestateofplay2023 Жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question at all. The ultra comes with the quick connect screwed on. But it does screw off. Might take some doing as it’s on there pretty tight but it is removable. I’d still recommend a cheap quick connect module from Amazon anyway. They just screw onto your hose. They’re great for just quickly taking off an airbrush for easier flushing and cleaning.

@@thestateofplay2023 so its just basic 1/8 quick release valve? I might order some as I want to use one of my fengdas for varnishes and priming. Thank you very much, I ordeted the Ultra 👌
