If i remember correctly, in the novelization it is definitely stated that Mace died. Besides that though, Mace fell a greater height then Maul did. Also, Maul used his rage and knowledge of the dark-side to keep himself alive. Mace did not really have this option. Plus with Sidious' intent to kill, and Mace being unable to block the force-lightning, I always assumed he was knocked unconscious when he was thrown out the window.

In the movie it appears that the duel is very slow paced, thats an understandable misconception. However, in-universe it states in the novelization that Palpatine was so swift, so FAST it was like a flurry of Red-Crimson blades. The same goes for Mace. Hope that helps you to understand, also Palpatine is probably the most powerful being at this time

Well, here's my version of the continuation : Arriving at the gargantuan round space station being constructed, Mace, clad in inquisitor armor explores the station. Stormtroopers are on high alert, and Mace, being vary that he might have been discovered, hides. 2 stormtroopers pass him and he overhears their conversation: "So, what's all the fuss about?", " Didn't you hear?" , "Um, no...", "There is some big meeting here right now. All moffs, admirals, hell, even Grand admiral Thrawn is here.", " [whistles] Thrawn? Damn... I heard of him, if he's here there is something very serious going on... Next thing you know Lord Vader and The Emperor are going to come here", "They ARE." 3rd stormtrooper joins them - " And we must make sure rebels don't get any funny ideas". Mace, hears that pretty much every big figure in empire is coming here, and one in particular - The EMPEROR... Everyone who was responsible for his continued misery was going to be there. Hatred and rage stirred in him, but in rare event since Coruscant, a moment of clarity and sense came to him - "REBELS". There are other fighting the empire! Others with same purpose as him! A small sense of joy and hope came to him, but he refocused on his hatred, since now he needed to be strong... He NEEDED the dark side. Making his way to upper lelvels, he asks one stormtooper : "where is the meeting taking place? I have urgent message for command". Stormtrooper, fooled by the disguise, replies - "Sorry sir, location is classified by the order of Lord Vader". " I AM acting on the orders of lord Vader. The message is urgent and must be delivered personally" adding slight movement of his hand to his words, the stormtrooper replies - " Alright sir, i will take you to the meeting room." Arriving at the room with big observation window and a throne in near it, there were several people sitting at the nearby table. 2 of those got Mace's attention: A blue humanoid with red eyes, clad in elegant white uniform... Strange, Mace heard that the Emperor wasn't really fond of non-humans... and a familiar face... Of now Grand Moff Tarkin. Disgust, hatered and rage brew in Mace, as a boiling water in the pot was going to be unleashed. He never liked Tarkin, but he never suspected the man who helped him fight against tyranny of Sepparatist was now the tyrant. " Aaah, Grand Inqusitor , how nice of you to join us" Said tarkin, stopping his conversation with Thrawn. " please, sit down. we're only awaiting Lord Vader and the emperor now". Stormtrooper : Sir, Grand inquisitor has urgent message from lord Vader". Tarkin, confused, asked : "What's the Message? Did something happen to lord Vader?". Windu, reaching through the force, closed the door to the room shut. Thrawn immediately took notice of that fact, but before he could say anything, Grand Inquisitor took of his helmet, revealing himself as Mace Windu, the fallen and forgotten Jedi Master. A red glow of lightsaber flashed through the room... The emperor, having felt disturbance in the force prior, arrived at the station worried. Vader hadn't contacted him for several hours. There was something happeneing. But now wasn't the time to worry, as Death Star was nearing completion and soon he would have power to destroy planets at his fingertips. Steppping out of the ship with four royal guards, he went forward to the meeting room. Arriving, he noticed that it was empty. Suddenly, cracking of lightsaber and sparks startled the emperor. Looking behind him, he saw that Windu had destroyed the console and locked them in. Guards rushed in to stop the threat to their dear emperor, but they were no match for the former Jedi master - not even igniting the lightsaber, he literally crushed them with the force. "Master Mace Windu. Such a pleasant surprise. So, you did manage to survive your injuries". "I have come to end what I have begun many years ago, Mylord. But this time , your apprentice will not be lending his hand". Sidious, realising that his apprentise, Lord Vader was gone, lost composure for a moment. That was the disturbance he felt, but it was soon replaced by another darkness. " I see you are now more familiar with the dark side. Its truth. ITS POWER. Vader was useless, but now, there is a place or another apprentice." said Sidous calmly. " JOIN ME! KNEEL before me and become my apprentice and you will be more powerful than any Jedi" Windu, felt the dark side pull on him. But he remembered his rage, his anger that he felt when his brothers and sisters were dieing by the dozens by Clone hands... igniting his lightsaber, he said : "I do not seek power. All I seek is your DEATH." " So be it" - Dissapointed, sidious shoot out his force lightning. Mace blocked it with his lightsaber. It had become stronger, but so did he over these years. Sidious , realising that his power wouldn't suffice, Took out his lightsabers, one in each hand. Crimson blades clashed, crackled, but none really was besting the other. In blade lock, sidious said mockingly to windu : " It won't be easy this time, master Jedi. Your old tricks won't work on me anymore". Windu, smiling, replied - "Luckily, I learned some new ones" . With these words, a streak of lightning erupted from his hand. Sidous, surprised, lowered his guard. In the brief moment, Windu took the opportunity and red light rushed past Palpatine's neck. A brief look of horror and fear came to his face, and next moment his head rolled off from his shoulders... Windu, standing over the body of the Emperor of the galaxy, didn't knew what would happen afterwards. He did it! He got his revenge for his countless brothers and sisters. For countless of innocents who died because of the Sith's manipulation. He didn't knew what was coming, but a rey of light, shining into his dark world, brought something he hadn't felt for a long time - peace.

I would argue that he wouldnt turn to the darkside. He would instead make an entire new jedi order in secret that was focused on combat and balance of all skills. Like sentinels but specialized in fighting darkside force sensitives. He would stay hidden no matter what. He wouldnt reveal himself to even luke or luke's new jedi order. Windu's new jedi order would obsess with surviving at all costs so as to fight the darkside another day. His order would not be grey or only light. It would be hardcore light but would learn and not shy away from the darkside. It would study it and find ways to combat it. Even use it where possible to serve the lightside. Like Windu's lightsaber form. Not just lightside. Lightside NO MATTER WHAT and at all costs. Even if it means doing dark things for the greater light. Things like killing your government's supreme chancellor in extrajudicial murder during times of war. Great idea. They should reboot the reboot with him.

A little off for me, always felt that Mace did skate the line, and had an acceptance of his dark side, which allowed him to use his fighting style at the level he did, even though he would have seen the weaknesses of the Jedi, he would not have fallen so deep, the amount of self control he had and his conviction would seam that Mace would have become more of a Dark Jedi.

Agreed, while I think the turmoil of ROTS would have haunted him, and he would have likely been more willing to tap the dark side, I think he would have retained his control of it. His stubborn, skeptical side is his greatest character asset, and this would prevent him from embracing the dark side so completely. At the same time, he would likely have been able to defeat Vader assuming he was able to recover from his injuries. Personally, I think it would be far more realistic and interesting if he was disabled from the fall, rather than able to fully recover himself. It would bring his power down, and force some interesting ideas about the force and how someone like WIndu would use it to assist himself, and how all this would play on his psyche.

Mace is not a Dark Jedi, trust me i know loads about this dude, Mace has full mastery over his Light Side abilitys, the only time Vaapad is so effective is against Sith Lords, because you can redirect the Dark Side energy towards your opponent, while remaining completely calm and controlled, it forces the Dark Side weilder to be overcome by there own Dark Side powers it is really cool, this also means that the Dark Side is stronger than the Light Side, but a Sith is not as strong as a Jedi in an actual fight, obviously Sidious at full strength with the Death Star would obliterate any Jedi or Sith, but that is a different story, in a 1v1 fight the Jedi would win against the Sith because of Vaapad.

Vaapad is basically so good because you are dealing out huge amounts of your opponents Dark Side energy while remaining completely Light Side, it is really powerful, no Sith would be able to beat it trust me, Windu remains fully Light Side until the moment of his Death, the only reason Windu looks fairly Dark Side is because he is reflecting some of Sidious power and rage, its not actually him doing that its Sidious, which is why Sidious cant beat it.

The thing is I think a part two would end in a stalemate with Windu and the Emperor being endlessly locked in an ever-escalating duel. Or the result would depend on whether Stupendous believes the theory that Palpatine threw the fight at the end of Revenge of the Sith or not.

it's not a theory... it's a fact: Palpatine lost. Originally Palpatine intended to make the fight last (waiting for Anakin), in fact Palpatine could have killed Windu at the beginning. But Mace's Vaapad got stronger since it drains dark emotions and transform them into power for the user. So aswell as Anakin was getting closer and closer, Windu was growing stronger and stronger and Palpatine lost control of the fight... Yes, Windu would have died at the beginning if Sidious wanted to, but Windu fairly won thanks to the strong dark emotions Anakin held (such as anger, fear of losing Padme, and so on)... Anakin made Windu's Vaapad almost invencible. This is not a theory, it's *canon* since: It's written in the Revenge of the Sith novelization and George Lucas support this. It can't be more canon than that.

Yes, Palpatine was making Windu stronger and stronger, but he is also widely considered to be one of the strongest Dark Side Force practitioners of all time, so while he lost control and may have ultimately lost, we cannot say for sure what would have happened if Anakin had not arrived and Palpatine had instead been thrown into a rage as Windu became more powerful. Maybe Palpatine still had a chance to kill him, maybe Windu was just too strong. We will never know.

Great story! What do you suppose would happen if Mace Windu then located Palpatine and managed to kill him, too? He was seeking justice, not power, so I can't see him usurping the Emperor's authority. So do you think he'd attempt to then dismantle the Empire and revive the Republic, or would he just leave the Emperor-less Empire to fall apart on its own, vow to never wield the Force again, and go someplace quiet to eventually die in peace (or in what little peace he'd have from the consolation of taking down Vader and the Emperor)? And then what do you think he'd have done when Obi-wan starts training Luke (which would have happened a lot earlier and been a lot easier with the Empire already out of the way), and he and Yoda come out of hiding? It's very interesting to me to think how things at the same time period as A New Hope would have gone differently had something like your story been canon. I know this comment is 2 years old, but if they tried to reestablish the jedi order on Dagobah, that many powerful force sensitives on the planet might be enough to signal Palpatine and Vader of their presence. Though Dagobah does have a lot of dark side energy which clouds the light (hence why Yoda exiled there), the empire might still find them.

And yeah it would turn out real well for the Jedi to kill the president of the galaxy. And fundamentally shaping the government as they so pleased. On suspicions with no hard evidence of being a Sith Lord. And mind you, being a Sith Lord isn't illegal in the Republic; it's just a religion. And the Jedi failed to notify the public at large that the Sith were behind the war, bc that would be admitting publicly that their ability to use the force has diminished. Which is something they didn't even feel comfortable enough to tell the Supreme Chancellor, let alone the public. The best case scenario is that Mace gets sent to prison for high treason. The more likely scenario is that Order 66 is still activated by one of Palpatine's cronies in the chain of command. And the Jedi were aware of order 66 so they should have been prepared when dealing with sidious. And the reason why the Jedi couldn't use order 65 to depose Palpatine was because it wasn't legal. I suspect the only reason that order 66 was allowed to be carried out was bc it became legal due to the attempted assassination of the supreme Chancellor by key leaders within the Jedi Council. Knowing all this, it was a stupid move to rush in there and try to kill the supreme Chancellor with no evidence. Especially bc Anakin told him he was a sith Lord knowing he would tell the Jedi council. And Windu knew this. He should have known this was a trap. And realized all the ways this could go wrong, independent of Anakin's betrayal. And if Windu waited for General Grevious's defeat to spread throughout the galaxy, the seperatist alliance would collapse. And Palpatine would be forced to give up his war time powers. In that time, they could get evidence of him commiting high treason against the Republic, instead of the non-illegal act of being a Sith Lord. That would have likely made Order 66 impossible to execute practically. Or at least get the Jedi away from the clones before Order 66 was activated. All in all, Windu might have made the stupidest and most costly decision in all of Star Wars

Then Yoda would have beaten him, Sidious has his work truly cut out for him against Yoda, he is a far more experience Warrior than Sidious and also has full Mastery over the Light Side, Yoda would definetly beat Sidious in a fight so Sidious had to rely on other means to overthrow the Jedi, Windu would also beat Sidious 1v1, but this is the funny thing Sidious at full strength in ROTJ would beat any Jedi or Sith, Sidious is allowed to use his Death Star and Gallactic Empire in a 1v1, because he used his Dark Side powers to do it, even if you was a Jedi with x3 Anakins strength, with the force as your ally, you aint really even going to scratch Sidious 1v1, the only way to beat Sidious is to destroy the Death Star, you would have to singlehandedly disable the shield generator, all Sidious has to do is aim the Death Star at you and you are dead, even if you did survive you would have to fly through the Death Star being chased by thousands of Tie Fighters, if you actually manged to destroy the Reactor then Sidious would most probably have escaped, Sidious is technically the most powerful character in Star Wars but he can definetly be beaten up close with Lightsaber/Force by a Jedi.

9:18 omg, that's like exactly how I would imagine mace using the dark. They missed a huuuuuge opportunity to make Snoke be a surprise Mace, I will always say this. The scar could be from palpatine hitting him with force lightning, and the only person who knew being dead (Vader). Mace is one of the perfect Jedi to become a Je'daii, especially after what happened with anikin and palpatine.

HE literally defeats maul(who is vader level or better) in 3 lightsaber exchanges. ( in rebels which is cannon) and yoda is old and nearly dead taking the last of his time to train Luke.

Arriving at the gargantuan round space station being constructed, Mace, clad in inquisitor armor explores the station. Stormtroopers are on high alert, and Mace, being vary that he might have been discovered, hides. 2 stormtroopers pass him and he overhears their conversation: "So, what's all the fuss about?", " Didn't you hear?" , "Um, no...", "There is some big meeting here right now. All moffs, admirals, hell, even Grand admiral Thrawn is here.", " [whistles] Thrawn? Damn... I heard of him, if he's here there is something very serious going on... Next thing you know Lord Vader and The Emperor are going to come here", "They ARE." 3rd stormtrooper joins them - " And we must make sure rebels don't get any funny ideas". Mace, hears that pretty much every big figure in empire is coming here, and one in particular - The EMPEROR... Everyone who was responsible for his continued misery was going to be there. Hatred and rage stirred in him, but in rare event since Coruscant, a moment of clarity and sense came to him - "REBELS". There are other fighting the empire! Others with same purpose as him! A small sense of joy and hope came to him, but he refocused on his hatred, since now he needed to be strong... He NEEDED the dark side. Making his way to upper lelvels, he asks one stormtooper : "where is the meeting taking place? I have urgent message for command". Stormtrooper, fooled by the disguise, replies - "Sorry sir, location is classified by the order of Lord Vader". " I AM acting on the orders of lord Vader. The message is urgent and must be delivered personally" adding slight movement of his hand to his words, the stormtrooper replies - " Alright sir, i will take you to the meeting room." Arriving at the room with big observation window and a throne in near it, there were several people sitting at the nearby table. 2 of those got Mace's attention: A blue humanoid with red eyes, clad in elegant white uniform... Strange, Mace heard that the Emperor wasn't really fond of non-humans... and a familiar face... Of now Grand Moff Tarkin. Disgust, hatered and rage brew in Mace, as a boiling water in the pot was going to be unleashed. He never liked Tarkin, but he never suspected the man who helped him fight against tyranny of Sepparatist was now the tyrant. " Aaah, Grand Inqusitor , how nice of you to join us" Said tarkin, stopping his conversation with Thrawn. " please, sit down. we're only awaiting Lord Vader and the emperor now". Stormtrooper : Sir, Grand inquisitor has urgent message from lord Vader". Tarkin, confused, asked : "What's the Message? Did something happen to lord Vader?". Windu, reaching through the force, closed the door to the room shut. Thrawn immediately took notice of that fact, but before he could say anything, Grand Inquisitor took of his helmet, revealing himself as Mace Windu, the fallen and forgotten Jedi Master. A red glow of lightsaber flashed through the room... The emperor, having felt disturbance in the force prior, arrived at the station worried. Vader hadn't contacted him for several hours. There was something happeneing. But now wasn't the time to worry, as Death Star was nearing completion and soon he would have power to destroy planets at his fingertips. Steppping out of the ship with four royal guards, he went forward to the meeting room. Arriving, he noticed that it was empty. Suddenly, cracking of lightsaber and sparks startled the emperor. Looking behind him, he saw that Windu had destroyed the console and locked them in. Guards rushed in to stop the threat to their dear emperor, but they were no match for the former Jedi master - not even igniting the lightsaber, he literally crushed them with the force. "Master Mace Windu. Such a pleasant surprise. So, you did manage to survive your injuries". "I have come to end what I have begun many years ago, Mylord. But this time , your apprentice will not be lending his hand". Sidious, realising that his apprentise, Lord Vader was gone, lost composure for a moment. That was the disturbance he felt, but it was soon replaced by another darkness. " I see you are now more familiar with the dark side. Its truth. ITS POWER. Vader was useless, but now, there is a place for another apprentice." said Sidous calmly. " JOIN ME! KNEEL before me and become my apprentice and you will be more powerful than any Jedi" Windu, felt the dark side pull on him. But he remembered his rage, his anger that he felt when his brothers and sisters were dieing by the dozens by Clone hands... igniting his lightsaber, he said : "I do not seek power. All I seek is your DEATH." " So be it" - Dissapointed, sidious shoot out his force lightning. Mace blocked it with his lightsaber. It had become stronger, but so did he over these years. Sidious , realising that his power wouldn't suffice, Took out his lightsabers, one in each hand. Crimson blades clashed, crackled, but none really was besting the other. In blade lock, sidious said mockingly to windu : " It won't be easy this time, master Jedi. Your old tricks won't work on me anymore". Windu, smiling, replied - " Luckily, I learned some new ones" . With these words, a streak of lightning erupted from his hand. Sidous, surprised, lowered his guard. In the brief moment, Windu took the opportunity and red light rushed past Palpatine's neck. A brief look of horror and fear came to his face, and next moment his head rolled off from his shoulders. Windu, standing over the body of the Emperor of the galaxy, didn't knew what would happen afterwards. He did it! He got his revenge for his countless brothers and sisters. For countless of innocents who died because of the Sith's manipulation. He didn't knew what was coming, but a rey of light, shining into his dark world, brought something he hadn't felt for a long time - peace.

He is less likely to turn than Yoda because he remains pure even using his fighting style. Also to all those haters, windu could've killed palpitine, but Yoda states that obi wan could not do it but he defeats Darth Vader and Yoda does not defeat sidious so mace is the better swordsman. Yoda did disarm Sidious, so the contest came up to force powers because of the uneven terrain. And when it comes to force powers, Windu leaves a bit to be desired if compared to Yoda.

Love your videos. I often felt Mace should have survived and, like yourself, imagined that he would have immediately found transport off Coruscant. Instead of turning to the dark side, though, he may have had a revelation about what the Dark Side really could do to someone after seeing /feeling what Anakin had become. This would have led to a self-imposed exile to purge the darkness from himself and to understand his own shatterpoint. With a renewed purity inside of him, and turning away from the flawed ways of the Jedi Order, Mace would have taken on a Padawan and helped force-sensitive children escape from Vader's wrath. This would have culminated in an older Mace Windu encountering the Rebel Alliance and, upon seeing another Skywalker trying to take the lead, take his people back into the Outer Rim and build an academy of his own that was free from the insanity he saw consuming the galaxy. As the Empire falls and the New Republic emerges, a shuttle lands and Luke and Leia find dozens of new Jedi emerge - taught by an older and wiser Mace Windu who has released the darkness from himself. Mace and Luke talk and Mace tells Luke that he knew his father and wishes he could have saved him; but he is proud to know Luke did in the end and that act of redemption brought Mace and his new Jedi back to civilization.
