Thanks so much for this! After using the paint stripper and scraping the paint off, did you also use sand paper to strip away the last bits of paint and to even out any bumps?

Hey! Yes, i gave it a light sand down all over just to smooth everything out. It didn't need too much work. Thanks for watching, and very happy the video helped you 😁

What painting materials did you use?

Nothing fancy, some normal silk blue paint, gold spray paint, paint stripper, and sand paper. I showed everything i used on the video.

Hi @LoulousCorner! Thanks for making this video! I have just recently bought exactly the same vinted chair and am looking to replace the crotch strap. Could you please tell me where did you get it? Also, was it easy to “slide back the seat and feet boards after they were painted (I was going to paint mine but hesitated if it would go back in 😬). And finally very curious how does it look like now, i.e. did the paint hold well etc? Thanks again for sharing! 😇

@SiamaLT Hi! Thanks for watching, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the video. I had to get an unofficial strap, as stokke don't sell them anymore. I found a few sellers on etsy that make them, and I am happy with the quality. It does the job well. The chair itself is holding up very well. It's well used, and the paint looks as good as ever. It also cleans easily as i made sure to give it a couple of layers of clear coat varnish for protection. The only thing the paint failed on are the screws, which have flaked off a bit, but other than that, it's all cool! Oh, also, in hindsight, i wouldn't bother with the seat cushions. They are more awkward and annoying than anything. Adjusting the chair really isn't difficult. Again, the clear coat protects it from chipping, just as long as you haven't put any layers on too thick it inpedes it. Good luck with your chair!

Thanks so much for sharing! Recently just bought a heavily used trip trapp and plan on refinishing it. It’s been a long time since I’ve done anything related to wood restoration. Did you manually sand it? And if so, what grit did you use? You mentioned washing the wood after stripping it so I was also curious about that. Thanks!

Hi! thanks for watching and commenting. You're very welcome! It's nice to hear you enjoyed and learned something from the video 😁 I used a paint stripper and scraper for the most part, small wire brushes for the little grooves where the sitting and foot plates go, and sand paper just to finish. You can use a fine grit, which is anything from 180 to 210 grit. Anything heavier will just scratch up the wood if it's smooth and in good condition. I have another tripp trapp, which is a bit more banged up and has a couple of dents in one of the legs, I'm going to see if a slightly heavier grit paper would work smoothing that, with maybe some wood filler. I'll have to do another video when i get some time. Good luck with yours. It's not as intimidating as you think, and once you get started, I'm sure you'll get into your groove with it.

@@LoulousCornerthank you so much for your response! So you stripped the paint instead of sanding - I learned something new today! Did the paint you use come with a protecting seal? Look forward to that next video! 😊

No problem at all! You could sand it off if you like, i depends on which method you prefer. I didn't want the dust everywhere, so i went with a chemical stripper. I bought a top coat clear varnish as well. This is crucial for 2 reasons: 1) It adds a layer of protection, so the paint doesn't scratch of chip so easily (although a hard enough ding with leave a mark). 2) It adds a waterproof layer so you can clean it with water because BOY does it get dirty in use.
