This really puts Franicis' abilities into perspective. If you watch him throw his punches, he is doing it with set-feet, with almost NO "wind-up." Yet, he's hitting harder than a 400LB strong-man who is walking-up, nearly crow-hopping, to the target. Frightening. A 260-280LB guy generating that kind of hand-speed.

in a way a similar argument is why I feel Carwin may actually have been a more powerful puncher in his prime then Ngannou is presently. also Eddie's fist is sliding off the target which may be lowering his numbers

Eddie's problem is lack of flow in his punches. So much punching power comes from rotation and usage of legs, core, and shoulders. It's a reason why Tyson had so much power with a small frame. If Eddie learns to punch properly, he could break the record in my opinion

@mike353 2 жыл бұрын
But Eddie was dehydrated Edit: This comment was a joke but since y’all taking it seriously lets not forget the experience difference between the two. Francis uses his feet and hips to strike a powerful punch while Eddie uses forward momentum. If you know anything about boxing or mma you would know that your punching power comes from the lower body not the upper body and Eddie can be seen lifting his leg as he lunges forward greatly decreasing the power of the punch. The more mass the more power you have and Eddie has Francis beat in that department. With more experience and proper striking technique Eddie could give Francis a run for his money, he is a strong man after all. Side note: Eddie is using proper boxing gloves while Francis was using mma gloves. The heavier the glove the harder it is to make power. It also has more cushion that absorbs the impact. Not to mention it tires you easily.

If Eddit had used Francis's technique, he would've scored higher. Running up does nothing. Your body's momentum is a negligible addition compared to the speed of the strike. 100% of boxing coaches will tell you that for the hardest power punches, to PLANT your feet. You can't/don't do that with a run up. Francis had the pad at the ideal height for him, and twisted with his punch to use the full power of his body right down to his well planted feet. Eddie doesn't know to do that because he isn't a veteran trained fighter. Eddie could have 1 day's instruction from a boxing coach on how best to hit that pad, and he would break 125k. I'd put $10k on it. Kinda irrelevant though, since the power of a single strike is meaningless unless you can land it as well as Francis. In a boxing match, Eddie would land that punch 0 times out of 30 on Francis. Which is fair enough because they are elites of different sports - combat vs strength. No shame there.

@5:29 When Eddie punches, he pushes through his front foot but it doesn't look like his back foot is doing much other than being a weird counter weight. What would happen if he snapped his hips and pushed from his back foot and a little from his front? I know personally from punchbag training this has a much deeper impact, but no idea what that would look like in numbers. Seems like it's mainly Eddie's weight that is giving him his power, he could definitely go higher with better foot work.

The scary part is that his technique is honestly crappy and because his technique is crappy, the timing basically doesn't matter. IF he learned how to punch right, he would obliterate the record easily and by a huge margin. Eddie, if you read this, the goal of a good punch is to not only be backed by your own weight, but by the whole floor. You need the foot on the ground for that. Also maximum speed is achieved by adding up body rotation and arm movement with the correct timing. You basically just swing your arm, which is still insanely powerfull, but not scary for a boxing opponent.

The timing of your weight transition is the first key towards maximum power, so for you to say that timing doesn't matter devalues your opinion slightly. No, his general punching technique is not exactly world class. That overhand swing however, when done properly, is our most powerful punch. But you can't throw it how he throws it without a glove. So in reality, this would only be viable for a boxing opponent.

For sure, its clear that Thor is going to try and move and use his range, and not engage in the box. Its also clear that Eddie's approach has to be to spoil, to get inside Thor's reach, and manhandle. Basically Thor is going to try and be AJ in the Ruiz rematch, and Eddie is going to try and be Maidana in the Floyd first fight. If Eddie gets inside, then he will land with those slow and predictable power shots. Against a real heavyweight boxer ranked in the top... 50 at least, Eddie gets destroyed. But that's not who he is training for. Thor is going to throw high repeatedly, and Eddie dip is perfect. It is going to come down to how much Thor is willing to run and be on the back foot before he starts to feel embarassed. But either man can land a lucky punch and end it.

Okay, great - so the world's hardest punch was recorded using a unit of measurement that only this one single device uses, and isn't directly translatable to any other standardized unit. That's really valuable information.

You can use this as a dyno on cars. If you use the same dyno to measure changes you will progress. It's about progress not perfection, now if you change tools you'll be cheating yourself.

You need to bring it in tighter to your body, and resist throwing your arm back. When it passes the shoulder, it slows down because you have to rotate the shoulder, and move around your own body to deliver the punch. It seems strong, but all you're doing is accelerating your fist to deliver the punch, rather than putting your body into it. You'll notice Francis is bunched up tight when he hits. He telegraphs less, and his body mass is moving into the punch. His punch is delivered near parallel to his chest when he's finished; while initial contact would have been slightly ahead, before his body mass followed, tucking his arm and fist into his side as the body moves right in behind the punch. Not that I would suggest trying to hit anyone that hard. Faster, less powerful jabs are still going to hit damn hard.

Take away all the techniques theory's ext, some people have never stepped in a boxing ring but they have one punch knock out power. You get caught right your going for a kip, I'm not for one minute saying being a trained boxer isent going to give you a huge advantage. The guy I'm referring to never ever started a fight but he finished plenty they were usually bully's.

Ciryl : "Hahaha! *_Let's go!"_* Eddie punches are called "une patate de forain" "a fairground artist batter" in French. No disrespect, it's named this way because there are dynamometric punching-balls in fun fairs, so fairground artists often do the show with these attractions. Anyway, for full efficiency, a punch must start from the back foot, pivoting the hip in the direction the back leg pushes, then the rapid arm movement should make the fist touching the target just before the front foot pushes to end the hip movement.

Power is generated by the hips, this is very impressive for arm punches only. If Eddy adds rotation to his hips he will punch allot harder.

I think your best punch is probably a hook to the body, not an overhand. You can use your massive midsection to torque the hook at a close range to the pad and probably get a bigger score. The pad being at a midsection height will allow your rotation to have maximum efficiency without breaking the angle of the kinetic force.

Eddie's gloves are 14 or 16oz and Francis hit the pad with mma gloves and well wrapped hands. That should make a significant difference in the momentary transferance of force. Technique aside of course:)
