Following the Second World War, there were a number of executions carried out in Budapest of many war criminals and former politicians who had been involved in deportations of thousands to concentration camps. Inside of the Hungarian city, there was one elderly woman who was brought out in front of a crowd for her execution. But very little is known about this woman, we know that her name was Manci Nagy, and that she was a woman who during the Second World War was cruel to those who were being persecuted.
But for her to be executed on the same scaffold and post that the former Prime Minister Ferenc Szalasi was, she must have committed a terrible crime. She possibly could have been a guard at a concentration camp, or she may have been a collaborator who gave over people to the Germans or the SS, before they were then deported to their deaths.

This coming Memorial Day instead of just doing the usual BBQ at home with family and friends, go out into the community and actually speak 🗣️ with us Veterans. It's nice to hear the old "Thank you for your service" but actually show a real heartfelt connection with us Veterans. I suggest volunteer some time at a local shelter where there are Veterans and actually show them you really do take their service seriously for protecting you and your precious family and friends. God Bless All of You out there in this big ol' world 🌎🌍 Cheers 🥂 to you and yours. 🕊️Shalom🕊️ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Also, make it for ALL veterans who served their countries. The vast majority of whom were conscripted or otherwise had no choice. There have always been SINCERELY patriotic lads who enlist also. No doubt. BUT this old woman remembers what happened to our Vietnam Veterans who were NO LESS BRAVE, than the men of WWII, no LESS patriotic. They were of age during a very difficult time. NOT their fault! And for the young men who followed Viet Nam and served in the mid-East? I'm so sorry our government could not prepare you better for what YOU fine people witnessed. It makes me SICK, these veterans getting sh-t on, by their OWN countries. If not for these brave, stout hearted, or faint hearted but willing? Where the H-ll would the US be? We are such snobs that we fail to ELEVATE our warriors who come Home regardless of the circumstance of either the war, or, the MAN. Love me some vets and wish, as a woman, I had had the BALLS to enlist in PEACETIME-Though I'd go if they would take a much more stable 60 yr old... Give all of your veterans the respect THEY deserve, for if they weren't upholding YOUR opinion, they offered themselves for their country. Bless the Veterans of all Wars with your love and respect.

Why are veterans in shelters? Surely, for their service, they should be taken proper care of. The least a country can do. Rather then just a thanks. Just my opinion

Sir, Thank you for this video. I as a Hungarian from Budapest have never heard of this Manci Nagy. But I can tell you that the place was the (open air) inner court of the Court of Budapest at Markó utca (Street) 16, even called The Palace of Justice. The building was finished in 1918. Today the Supreme Court is seated there. It would be interseting to search in the court archives. Maybe someone could write to the court and ask if there is any information about Manci Nagy there. I wonder if the close photo of Manci and one of the executioners was manipulated originaly (the faces)? 👍

She doesn’t look elderly or old,possibly in her early 50’s… whatever she did I truly hope it was justified and not just done out of hearsay or association or rebellion against the communists. If so, would anyone have even dared to stand up for her? No. The other executions of Kun and the other official seemed to have been legitimate.

He wrote all of their names down on paper by hand. My grandmother had the piece of paper with his own name on it and others. I have no clue whatever happened to it. He died with his numbers on his arm. He died in 1982 because of cancer. He grew always a garden. He always had roses. To this day. The roses were moved from his house to this house. Some are still alive. I put two plastic lambs in front of them. For everyone. He was caught in North Italy. Army. I have no clue what his job was in the Army. Yet. To when he got there to when he left. I looked everyone in the eyes that entered that camp. So sad.

This is called the short drop method. The have a noose around the neck secured to the post. The plank they stand on is pulled away and they fall slightly. The neck is usually not broken as it is in the long drop, and the death takes longer to occur as a result.

Ive been to Hungary and Budapest literally hundreds of times spending weeks and months at a time there. I became intimately informed about the final battle for Budapest. Fellow Historians call it " Stalingrad an der Donau". The fighting there was cruel and medieval...it makes the fight for Berlin look like a Sunday stroll. After the battle, the 2 Red Army Generals in charge allowed their Men 4 hours per day " Freiraub". They could steal anything they wanted, murder or rape anyone they wanted. The Martyrium of Hungarians after the war was horrific. Walking the streets and seeing the beautiful KuK Monarchy Architecture..knowing the horrifying things that happened inside and in front of some of these buildings always sends a shiver down my spine.

It is very possible that she was executed simply for being anti-communist and anti-soviet. The Hungarian people did not do well under communist rule. Also, besides executing opposition politicians, the soviets executed anyone known to be hostile to communism. Additionally, tens of thousands of ordinary Hungarians were herded into cattle cars and shipped off to the Gulags to do forced heavy labor for the remainder of their lives. This was done regardless of their political views but because they belonged to the middle or upper classes. The same happened in all Soviet occupied countries.

Yes, that is true. But SOME participants did step up at certain times to “commit” acts of kindness and caring. Certainly the German officer who save the man who survived WWII as “The Pianist” was one of them. He ended up dying in a Soviet prison camp after the war. Like you, I have no answers for it, except to refer to the nihilism of Charles Darwin. Ironically, he was not even a German. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)

Hungary was full of anti-Communists as the result of the mass abomination that the vile Kun regime elicited. The first elections after WWII in Hungary left the Communist Party with less than 20% of the vote. Hungarians hated Szalasi as much as they hated Kun. The Jew-butchers who had sacrificed the Hungarian people in the defense of Hitler were fair game for fair trials... and they would die. I don't know what this woman did. Was she a brutal guard? Did she denounce Jews? Did she compile lists of Jews to kill or check them off as they were killed lcally or deported to Nazi murder camps? Maybe we don't know, but a monster like Szalasi needed accomplices. This includes those who accounted for the "removal " of Jews. The Commies did not take over in Hungary until 1947. Like Szalasi, this woman got Last Rites from a Catholic priest .

@paulbrower
@paulbrower 11 ай бұрын
These executions were performed beore the consolidation of Communist rule in Hungary, so one cannot say that the Commies staged the trials. The context is that she was executed with more prominent war criminals. She was singled out among women. Did she organize the deportation lists? The Szalasi regime was extremely efficient in rounding up Jews for massacres and deportations. The executions were largely for Jew-killers, for which the British and Americans often turned over Hungarian war criminals. One noteworthy reality was that the executioners allowed priests to give Last Rites to the condemned. The government of the time was still a coalition ofChristian, pro-business parties. The heavy hand of Communist rule did not begin until Rakosi became the dictator as "Stalin's finest Hungaran pupil".

OK, I figured that she had done something essential to the Holocaust in Hungary, like making lists of Jews to be deported or monitoring manifests against deportation. Fascist Hungary was not a feminist society; fascism in all forms is a Bad Boys club, which applies as much to the Nazis, the KKK, or ISIS. Women are very much in the background and expected to be handmaids and baby-factories. Contrast the Soviets or the British at the same time, both of whom got women into the armaments factories as fast as possible. Ordinary criminals doing some of the dirty work of Hitler? Such would be particularly abiminable.

The last time I looked into history books, Hungary sided with the Germans - and did not "suffer" as you put it. Also, they were reluctant to hand over their Jewish fellow Hungarians, and only near the end of WWII, when hard pressed by the Germans, they caved in. In the meantime, as the war went slowly sideways for the Germans, they looked for opportunities to disassociate themselves from the Germans and Hitler's "special forces" (Skorzeny and his team) had to intervene to put them right back on the path...

Right after the war, people were executed for number of crimes, we wouldn't consider worthy ao the death penalty today. In my country (former Czechoslovakia) there was an air raid on one city, as the Red Army was closing up. As the result of it a train wagon with sugar was damaged. The sentry stood there, but the soldiers knew that the end of war was near and they didn't try too hard to drive off the people who came to take some of the sugar. However close to the railroad station lived an old man who saw people carrying sugar and he notified the German police living in the same house as he was. The people were arrested and interrogated and it was decided that they would be executed to discourage the Czech people from revolting. After the war the Gestapo officers involved were executed and so was the old man who notified them. If we look at it today, he didn't do anything wrong. He just notified the police about possible plundering, yet in the interrogation protocol after the war he was persuated to say he did it for the greateness of Germany and against the Czech people. He was found out guilty of being an acomplice to a mass murder and was executed. If the lady from the video wasn't a guard from a concentration camp, her crime could have very well been something like this. Something that brought a great hatred then, but maybe wouldn't deserve a harsh penalty from todays point of view. Unless we miracuously find out some documents, we will probably never know for sure.
