I lusted after watches so much until I narrowed it down and finally pulled the trigger on the BB 58. Purchased it for my 40th and I absolutely love it. If you don't want the stigma or the financial hit of buying a Rolex, Tudor is a no brainer.

The 58 is nice but I’ll stick with my 16600 Rolex. Call me when Tudor release a Pelagos or a GMT with the dimensions of the Black Bay 58 (I did love my GMT on the leather strap but always felt so big and I’m not a fan of big watches).

My favourite brand. Own a couple of Rolex but there's something about the Tudor brand that draws me in. Perhaps it's the snowflake hands, the chunkiness of its case, or the no crown guards. Whatever it is i keep coming back to them, so much so that they've now become my most trusted brand.

I absolutely love mine. Even the details that some reviewers mark as negatives, are instead for me, distinguishing details that I love. I love the lack of crown guards, love the coined edge. Love the snowflake hands. The rose crown. I love the applied round markers, Triangle Twelve and symmetrical dashes at 3, 6 and 9. I like how these shapes work with the tudor hands. I really do t mind the classic stepped bracelet, the faux rivets I could take or leave either way. My wife bought me mine and I love the understated nature of it compared to the rolex. The blue is mesmerising and I love how it shifts in the light with the angle from purplish to greyish blue. Only thing i wish was a ceramic bezel insert and quick micro adjust on the othwise wonderful clasp.

I own a BB 58 in the black dial and absolutely adore it. I remember my AD calling me on a Saturday morning to tell me the BB 58 had arrived and would I like to come take a look at it? He was surprised by how quickly I made it to the store. I pulled the trigger that day. I still can't believe I own a watch as beautiful and reliable as this. Every once in a while I find myself thinking about getting a Rolex, maybe an Explorer, but then I remember that I have a watch that ticks most of the same boxes as the Explorer for half the price. I agree with you, TGV, that Tudor is what Rolex used to be.

6-month update: I loved the quality of the bracelet, but couldn’t get a good fit with it. 3 micro adjust holes is not adequate. I even got the half-link from Uncle Seiko. In addition, the scissor arms in the clasp are long, and there’s limited articulation on the link that meets the clasp on the 6-o’clock side. The result is the effective length of the clasp is 50+mm on the underside of my wrist! I’ve got it on a Forstner “O” bracelet now; this solved all the issues & the fit is so much better!

@@theurbangentry Totally agree. In terms of overall quality, finishing etc, a modern Tudor with chronometer rated caliber is much closer to the original Sean-Connery era "Bond watch" than is a modern Rolex - which is now (unlike in the 1950s and early 60s) not really intended as a tool watch, but rather as an ultra-refined quasi-luxury item.

I can't understand why ppl go on about the negativity regarding the rivets on the side of the bracelet there that small you hardly notice them and when you look directly at the face to see the time you can't see them at all! Great video. Very interesting. Keep up the good work pal and stay safe!!

Also, you're absolutely right about the ETA movements; watches are the only hobby I can think of off hand where people idiotically think having something that's more expensive and more of a pain-in-the-ass to service is some kind of status symbol. Any more, I thought I had gotten rid of my watches where I have to do that except for my Seiko Marinemaster, but, discovered that my Ball needs to be sent back to the company. However, I refuse to get rid of that particular one.

I like 36 to 38 inch sized watches or I can go to 42 with the Gshock squares in plastic as they are so lightweight. I am not a big fan of snowflake hands. I don't know why. I owned the first 58 and it's a very nice watch and a great movement. However, the lack of microadjustment really sucks. You only get 3 holes and no half links. I bought a Monta Oceanking gilt for under USD 1K and it has glidelock with 7 steps and 2 half links. In many ways it blows the Tudor out of the water, especially if you can find it cheap preowned!

Very nice watch. My favourite Tudor was the Hydronaut. For me the positives are the female end links because that makes it taper on the wrist like Seiko. The new logo looks like smiley emoji. The negatives are lack of crown guard and the large L2L wish they made that smaller so it taper like a Seiko. Nice review. Fantastic editing. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.

For me, owning a black “original” BB58, your video was great to watch. Especially the history of Tudor. Big thumbs up for your research and editing work. The Fifty-eight is my first luxury watch; and am still as in love with it as when I first witnessed it in my local AD. We have equal wrist size you and I, so the 39mm is utterly perfect for me. The snowflake hands did require some getting used to, but I completely adore them by now, and are one of my favorite things in the watch. Coin edge bezel, and crown, although not historically Tudoresque, have great feel and useability. The only downside for me is in the bracelet (rivetless please) and clasp (would love to have the glidelock system of the modern submariner) but other than that the watch is perfect to me after a year of ownership. Would recommend the BB58 to anyone in a heartbeat, especially at it’s pricepoint

Just bought this watch this weekend so I went back to re-watch this review. I bought mine with the NATO strap. This strap feels like no other NATO strap I own. It has a really cool backstory that no KZbin review that I’ve seen has covered. It’s made on 19th century machines by a 5th generation company in France named Julian Faure, who also make textiles for the Vatican. The backstory of these straps might make a cool KZbin video TGV.

First of all, the entrance to this video is off the charts, you really should follow your talent into this industry. Secondly the way you explain the history of the brands is such a welcomed part of your videos, i just love your style. Lastly i was really considering this watch, i admit i was caught up in the excitement. Gladly i waited and you make some excellent points. I agree its a great watch, but maybe i'll wait and see what else is coming "down the pike". I find the blue a fine color, and a user friendly shade, but i do prefer the black and guild version. The coin edge is something do really like but if i were to gather a guess, it is a cost measure and not a missed opportunity. The indices are o.k. but you make a good point with being consistent of squares and rectangles, but it's not a deal breaker. The lack of drilled lugs is a misstep. This watch is a true "tool watch" but marketed for the popular sector of purchases. When Lady Gaga is sporting one, it loses quite a few marks from me.

I have the Black Bay 58 original release and I must say, it's the best looking watch in my collection. I have received many compliments for it. Whichever colour BB58 takes your fancy, it is always great because of its legibility (absolute clarity in time telling - I love the snow flake hands!), it's versatility and it's tremendous 39mm fit. It's not a tall watch, it's elegant, symmetrical (because there's no date complication) and it's affordable luxury. If vintage isn't your thing, I would highly recommend it. Also, my advice for anyone considering it: don't listen to what people say about Tudor being the "Poor Man's Rolex" - because I believe they are a great brand, more attainable than their older brother brand, Rolex. And in particular, I believe the BB58 (black or blue) is a modern and future classic.

I also have a Black Bay Chrono, which I had on a Colareb 'Roma Mud' strap, but I just had it put back on the bracelet. I really like Tudor's recent releases.

Have a black bay 41 and a vintage 1969 Tudor......enjoy them both for different reasons and are proud to wear them. And why shouldn't Rolex be mentioned, they come from the same Brain child. Fantastic review TGV and are really looking forward to your "history of the Swatch group" hopefully one day!!🤞

I know you like to keep associating Squale’s past history with Blancpain. However, this relationship was never a good partnership. Blancpain moved quickly to retire Squale cases out of the Fifty Fathoms manufacturing process. It was a short checkered history that should not be proudly promoted.

Excellent point and I'm a Tudor owner😂 To be fair, Tudor has graduated in my opinion of not just being the opening act for Rolex. They are a headliner in their own right now.

True, but on this review, the substance of the conclusion is made "against" an other Tudor. Rolex is mentionned many times in the history but never as decisive comparative criteria.

I guess it's hard to avoid the R-word, considering both brands were founded by the same man, both are still controlled by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, and both are (at least to some extent) designed and engineered by the same people... In my opinion a modern Tudor with in-house caliber offers 97% of Rolex caliber quality, and maybe 85% of Rolex case and bracelet quality, for about 40% of the price - which ought to be a real thing.

I very recently bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've cherished for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and aluminium bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it be when barely 35% of the retail price - go to an AD and try one on. In-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve.... you won't be disappointed.

I bought the Black Bay Steel (contrary to popular opinion, I wanted the date function) - thicker at 14-15mm but the links taper nicely and on my smaller wrist I could never be happier. Despite its weight I sometimes forget I'm wearing it when sleeping.

I heard that Tudor’s in house movements are replaced instead of serviced. The movement taken from the watch is serviced at their own pace in a low wage country. This increases the speed of the service time, but at the expense of losing your own movement. You’re getting a new movement or a refurbished movement . I also heard that Rolex may move this direction. This was from a reputable former Rolex authorized independent watchmaker.

The MBAs want to put independent watchmakers out of business and take it for themselves any way they can. Even the ETA movements and components are being restricted and independent shops won't be able to gets parts anymore.

Thank you TGV for another excellent quality review. In particular well done for picking up on the very real negative being the inadequate micro-adjustability. As a black BB58 owner, I too cannot get the bracelet fit ‘just so’, they have been told, but no solution yet introduced. Superb piece nonetheless...

Beautiful and inspiring watch. It’s easy to fall in love with the BB In my opinion despite the mishmash of dial and hour hands. But more so due to your great production video! I also agree when you say it’s more honest then a Rolex. It says something about the good taste of it’s wearer. Thanks for another great video!

Was also in the crossroads for a 58 vs a 14060 sub. In the end the sub got me. If you want say a sub, always buy a sub. The 58, is flawlessly executed, but you can’t beat the lightness and wearability of a 14060 IMO. The 58 wears a bit large with the flat side slab and feels heavy.

I'd noticed the lack of a ceramic bezel, but you did an even better job noting the lack of full bezel lume, disappointing crown/crown protection and I think most importantly the round hour indices versus the square, vis a vis matching the snow flake hands, was your most astute observation. I couldn't figure out what looked a bit underwhelming until you mention it, then I felt like an idiot for never noticing it before. I think I'd go for a Pelagos on the second hand market over this one... yeah, those rivets were a bit odd as well.

I have this watch and am very happy with the purchase. It's certainly flawed in many respects (bezel, bracelet, clasp and squared markers would be an improvement) but I disagree completely on the hands - I don't want to see the Mercedes hands here. Overall it's a great option at a very attractive price and a very compelling alternative to a submariner or seamaster which have become a little tired and cliched at this point

I do like the look of the blue but I'm glad I got my OG BB58. The warmth of the gilt accents just does it for me more than the silver of the blue. That being said, I would not have bought mine if it wasn't a coin edge bezel or if it had a Mercedes hand. I like it just the way it is and it is almost the perfect every-day watch.

Spot on review. For me the BB58 is better in black with the goldfish accents. It just goes better with the vintage inspired model and the snowflake hand looks better to me in that color as well. The bracelet is no problem as we can get replacements that are more suitable but I will say I do enjoy their Nato like strap. You will also save a bit buying that option. I totally agree with the metal strap and would buy an after market or older Rolex metal bracelet which would look really good with any BB58. Wish you could review the black version with the gold accents and compare your vintage and the blue BB58 which I believe would be the ultimate comparison. Yes, the two BB58s are identical on tech specs but the color really makes a huge difference.
