now see this is genetic engineering done right in star trek they were basically cookie cutter models but here you have to differnt ideas on what soupier means in Tyr's Kodiak pride its power and endurance with Bolivar's jaguar its speed and cunning and really fits the name nietzschean (miss qoite) "the superman is not the perfect man he is the man who knows his flaws and trys to overcome them"

Its a pity James Marsters was so busy at the time doing both; Buffy The Vampire Slayer and later on the Angel series in the early 2000's. This is why he only appeared once here as; "Archduke Charlemagne Bolivar" in Andromeda. The character was heavily referenced prior to his appearance in this episode and several times in season 3 and 4. The character would've helped flesh out the series moreso i reckon. The whole Nietzschean dynamic in the series needed a third Nietzschean character viewpoint from somebody who wasn't; Tyr or Rhade in the show. Archduke Charlemagne Bolivar was a smaller Nietzschean in stature and came from a royal bloodline of Nietzscheans in the show. He always struck me in this episode as less of a Warrior and more of a survivor who was more; master manipulator and charmer than Nietzschean fighter even though he talks a tough Nietzschean game as they all do. Its a pity James Marsters didn't reprise the role in later episodes sadly. As more exchanges with Tyr like this would've been great to see offhand! Maybe he didn't return to the series cos as many rumors circulate, so many people on that show didn't really like star Kevin Sorbo? (shrugs).
@scatterthewinds31264 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I loved the show for what it was (season 5 not included) but it could've been so much more if the original writing team from season 1/half way in season 2 (until trance transformation) stayed and the background cast stayed around. Sorbo wanted to show to be more about him than it already was, which is unfortunate.

Charlemange Bolivar didn't strike me as a schemer/manipulator - He HAD those traits in Spades, yes but it almost seemed more like camouflage. That he wasn't, in the least concerned about offending Tyr (who doubtless would have disemboweled ANYONE else) held himself back. Why? No doubt he could sense that for all his "obvious" fopishness (as expected of an Archduke) that Bolivar was EVERY bit (in his way. He kept pulling weapon after weapon after weapon, after all!) a killing machine like him. After all, A Kodiak will charge you, and Just. Keep. Coming... until it gets you; The Unstoppable Master of the Forest. A Jaguar..? is an Apex Ambush Predator. The One that kills w/a single strike. Sums them both up pretty well, yeah..? Also - agree that Marsters would've RADICALLY improved the show - Like Cobb, he's 10 times the actor Sorbo EVER was...

@@Sidragrosm I don't know about offending, seems like at least anything he was saying was straight up honest, which Tyr probably would have taken better.

@@JnEricsonx Seems pretty insulting to flagrantly point out such perceived "flaws" in a now extinct (Tyr is often called the Last of the Kodiaks) Pride. Granted, I suspect that was to get Tyr's attention (hence the offer of one of his MANY sisters and female cousins). I also suspect that once Tyr had a few children, Charlemagne would have him killed. Can't go having TWO Alphas (both Apex Predators) in the same pride, after all, and if anyone could recognize what a threat Tyr could be..? it would be Charlemagne Bolivar. (at least that's what I took from their exchange...)

I agree. They got rid of the most visually striking, emotionally complicated character and replaced him with that bland Nietzschean Rhade. Tyr and Keith Hamilton Cobb deserved better. I enjoyed seeing him interact with the rest of the crew.

@@Ragitsu Yeah, mid 2000s. Fun fact, he almost had the role of Superman in Lois and Clark before Dean Cain beat him out. I had commented that I'd seen him in some apparently embarassing movie, but it had only been for a minute, and he'd had short hair, suit, glasses, and I just thought he looked like Clark Kent. He was a nice guy, I guess we got to meet him before the troubles. Irony cause Dean Cain seems to be a bit nuts too these days.
