the NFT isn't the art, it's the code made based on the art. Which means that nobody who owns an NFT actually owns any art. They own a place on a blockchain, which is literally worthless. Well, unless someone else wants that spot, I guess. Imagine someone sells you a "certificate of authenticity" to the Mona Lisa. You don't own the Mona Lisa, you own that certificate. Everyone else can just make another certificate, it's just going to have a different string of numbers. If someone has an NFT-art, I can make another NFT based on the same art, but it's going to be different.

It's a technology that has potential use cases but none of those use cases are actually what it's being used for and pushed as right now. Large corporations are starting to hold crypto but it has nothing to do with some revolutionary new way of doing business, merely speculation. They're not accepting NFTs as proof of ownership for like...your house. The courts aren't accepting NFTs as proof of authenticity for last wills and testaments. Current implementation of NFTs is nothing but pure market speculation on artificially scarce procedurally generated JPEGs. Just like how adding extra lanes to a highway doesn't actually reduce traffic throughput, adding more room for even more transactions by scaling back the energy consumption will simply incentivize more transactions to fill that space.

I'm actually getting pissed with youtubers and commentators who take on this stupid, fucked up fad. NFTs are bullshit, sure, they are bad and evil and they destroy the environment, yes, 100%... Why do we have to tear down the art though? Sure, this ain't the epitome of art, but, for fuck's sake, it's a decent cartoon design, and some poor, underpaid freelancers spend time to make them in their own style. Even the 8bit art is actually quite well made. It's insensitive, anti-intellectualistic, and straight-up abusive to go after the art because someone uses it in a fucked up way. The only logical argument people can make about these pieces is how similar and streamlined each one of them are, to the point that they seem like they are coming right out of a production line, and even that is a weak and foolish thing to say if you truly think about it. Anime, animated movies, 3d modeling, rigging, comics, and a ton of other subcategories of visual arts include a ton of repetition that we end up seeing in the final product, and that's if you don't even count all the different versions an artist can go through while making a single drawing until they find the one they are happy with. I haven't heard a single another argument that makes any sense when it comes to the futility or the artistic value of these pieces. Artistically speaking, these images are nothing less than decent art Can we PLS separate the idiotic and destructive use of these pieces from their artistic value, however high or low you may think that is?
