Ooh yay a vegan Yule cake!! I made them all the time as a kid. Quick tip for not cracking your génoise cake, put a damp cotton rag instead of the parchment paper and roll it with that instead :)

I made this and it was SO DELICIOUS, thank you for posting. I can't wait to make it again next year. I couldn't find fresh cranberries at the store, so I used raspberries (since they are also red) and rolled them in powdered sugar to make them look snowy; they were really good. I would also recommend to someone else thinking of making this to find Pam cooking spray (make sure you buy the kind without dairy) and spray the parchment paper really really well before putting in the batter, then before you roll the cake spray the underside of the paper again prior to rolling it up. The cake really likes to stick to the parchment paper.
@TheVeganTestKitchen3 жыл бұрын
So glad to hear Lauren! And, I agree, you DEFINITELY want to make sure to grease everything VERY well--I think that might have been my main problem. The first time I made it I greased it more than this time.

Ah! A favorite of mine, grew up in France eating this for Christmas, although it's more of a leftover from the pagans ;) I would recommend trying a vanilla rolling cake recipe and fill it with chestnut spread, the French treat, you can find them in cans or tubes, so delicious, then add the ganache and make it look like a log as you did. Been vegan for 12 yrs+ strong! Glad I found your channel!

i made one before i even saw this video! for the first time this year, too! it was so good. i made a tiny one and it was so rich w the chocolate ganache i made ^_^ and i naturally colored my coconut whipped topping with beetroot powder for the 'red' and homemade cranberry sauce in it too, and matcha for the green! i used espresso powder to add richness to the chocolate flavor. it was a 'perfect for tiramisu' espresso powder; perfect for baking. tbh i think espresso/coffee is a wonderful flavor for desserts i also made my yule log canesugar-free , using monkfruit sweeteners, and maple surup! it worked wonderfully
@TheVeganTestKitchen4 жыл бұрын

Oh for the frosting? I'm doing no oil so I like whipping up a white steamed, cooled skinned sweet potato mmm :3 I'm sure it would be fine with vegan butter for you! :)

Vegan butter should work fine for this, especially if you keep it in the fridge! I always use shortening with my "buttercream" because it performs better at room temperature 😀

I'd be interested to see the 'cost' of these recipes. Some vegan products are outrageously priced.
@TheVeganTestKitchen4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. We might include the total cost in the future. Believe it or not, I originally wanted to do this for all of the Veganomicon recipes, but that was one more component I just didn't want to be concerned with every episode! However, this one didn't really have any outrageous ingredients, so it should be reasonably priced!
