That kid who decided to stand on both boats really improved the video with that idea. Definitly adding on to the spirit of having fun with those boats:)

The black boat looked to be faster than the others. If so, is it because of the hull or the sail rig?
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It all depends on which tack I'm sailing IMHO, have a look at this video I made about exactly that! 😉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2ipo6Cga62mpM0

Why was the dagger board up?
@TheBoatRambler Жыл бұрын
Hi Dion! When running I often lift the daggerboard almost fully to reduce drag as no lift is achieved by it on that point of sail. On low winds I even lift the rudder half way up too, for the same reason.

@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
Thank Poseidon for that!! 😁 I have used them once on the night I returned from Rat Island. It didn't go that well as I had not tried them before and the oars were crossing way too much. Had to row with those locator thinghies on the wrong side of the oarlocks. 😅
@fossilfool3 жыл бұрын
Nice vibe. Thx for sharing. Do you raise and lower the GIS rudder according to the conditions? Looks like there is a lot of rudder above the tiller connection point in these shots. Also, do you use a 360 camera? /Paul
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul! These guys are the most relaxed stress free sailing buddies ever! 😎 As for the rudder question, from just a few degrees further than a beam reach to full running I will start lifting the daggerboard and rudder depending on conditions. In really light wind (and close to full running) I will leave just enough rudder to steer the boat slowly... there is no lift and all the foils are just creating drag more than anything else! Have a look at 10:25 , I had been experimenting a few things with the rig and look how far they both pulled away. You can then see me getting up and lifting the rudder almost all the way up. That together with heeling the boat to leeward allowed me to get close to them again. Regarding the 360 camera...soon! 😉

We used to ram boats for fun as kids. Too bad yours are too nice for that. Or jump on the end of the boom as you pass by to capsize the other boat. Or drench the other crew with bailers.
