I love how you give substitutions and the reasons for making them and they are just as enjoyable but are a much better choice of selection for our health🙌

Great information as always! What's your take on brown rice? Should it be avoided completely?
@thevoiceofdiabetes3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kwaku, thank you for your positive feedback. Great question. Brown rice is very similar to whole wheat pasta. It will have more fiber and nutrients vs. white rice. Small portions would be my recommendation as it still will spike up your blood sugar but because there is more fiber and nutrients, it's definitely a better option than white rice. Hope this helps.

I know that all soda is bad for us and we should really try to drink more water but what do you think about zero sugar soda? is too much aspartame bad?
@thevoiceofdiabetes3 жыл бұрын
Hi Daneil, thanks for the feedback. So Zero Sugar soda or Soda Zero... May not have sugar, however, there are other chemicals in those that actually show we crave more sugar and causes increase in weight. Therefore, I do not recommend soda in general.

IS BULGAR RICE OK TO EAT. WITH HIGH BLOOD SUGAR
@thevoiceofdiabetes3 жыл бұрын
Great question, Carol. Bulgar rice is a better option than pasta and regular rice as it has more fiber and nutrients. However, moderation and smaller portion. It will turn into sugar and rise your blood sugar level.

Why is it all the bad foods she mentioned are all the foods I love!! LOL I think that if you tell someone you cannot have this and you cannot have that, makes the person what it even more!!!!! You can have the foods you like in moderation now and then, but you cannot eliminate it totally. Lets get real. We were all brought on on these foods since childhood and to stop them totally, not many people can do.
@thevoiceofdiabetes3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ronnie, I hear ya. It’s tough, for sure. But… I do mention alternatives that are just as good and healthier, less sugar content in this case. It’s good to be mindful and make better decisions when possible. Little changes go a long way. It’s not easy, but overtime, small changes (like having plain yogurt with fresh fruit vs. flavored yogurt” will go a long way. After a while, our tastebuds work with us. I used to drink my coffee with sugar and slowly started to cut back. I can’t even look at coffee with sugar the same way anymore let alone drink it. So I agree. It’s hard to stop everything as we are human and have grown up on most of these foods but if you become aware of the ones that have a lot of sugar and start to cut back slowly, it will benefit you in the long term. Never underestimate the power of small changes 😀. Slow and steady wins the race
@ronnie69023 жыл бұрын
@@thevoiceofdiabetes Thank you for the sound advice! I will make the changes like you said and take it from there. small changes will result into big ones over time!! take care.

What about pasta made from chickpeas or lentils??
@thevoiceofdiabetes3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, Great question. The carb count is actually similar. Not a big difference. But they will have more protein which is great, therefore, they would be a better option than white pasta.

Why don't you just recommend you that we all just mow the lawn and eat the grass low in Carbs! god help your patients they will all die from absolute bloody boredom and lack of food choices we have all consumed the staples for centuries many surviving to ripe old ages listening to you brings to mind the music piece from Queen Who Wants To Live Forever you certainly don't look a lot healthier on your diet despite the heavy make up.From a diabetic who regularly checks his blood sugars after eating a lot of what you condemn with only small increases in blood sugar levels even two three hours after the meal yes you can spike blood sugar levels by over eating or drinking anything
@thevoiceofdiabetes3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, thanks for your feedback. I am glad that you are able to enjoy most of these foods without a major spike in blood sugars. Unfortunately, it doesn’t apply for most people. As for me, I can say that I am pretty strict on my diet. I exercise 5-6x/week (regularly) and do my best to eat clean given I am at higher risk for developing diabetes given my family history. I always say that “ we can all eat better and do more”, unfortunately. Our foods are so processed now as compared to 20+ years ago. Even the fruit sizes are double from before. So we have to be extra diligent about portion sizes and making alternative choice when possible. Hope you continue to do well and continue to have good glycemic control. It’s definitely a challenge for most of us.
