Is this what they mean when they say a tornado sounds like a train? Because I never knew if they mean it sounds like the low rumble of the train on the tracks or the high-pitched wail of the horn.
@billybassman2110 жыл бұрын
Look up some of the Joplin tornado videos on youtube and you'll see how they sound. They sound more like the rumble of a train on the track as the train approaches (not the whistle). It keeps getting louder and louder the closer it gets. We had a tornado pass 1/4 of a mile of our house back on May 10, 1983 around 4 am in the Aldine area. To me it sounded like a cross between a jet engine and a train. It's a very distinctive eerie sound. You'll know it when you hear it.

After Hurricane Ike passed over my house, I wrote a poem for class about someone trapped inside during a hurricane. The storm is described of course, as if it is some kind of sea monster crying out across the oceans that it wants YOU. It is calling for you to come out of hiding... "Let us in! Let us in!" Said the wind and water..."We are very hungry..." I wasn't in town at the time of Ike's passage. Glad to know I guessed correctly on what it feels like...

There was nothing but wind, The wind was all. The wind became you, and you the wind. Each gust rocked the house as an earthquake, its voice making itself felt in rattling cupboards and splintering timbers. You huddled alone in the closet. Your fish were long dead. I was wondering if you’d come back. But its eye was set on one thing: You. You were what it was looking for. The sound of the surge breaking on the jetty, the roar of the tides beating on rocks, all the fury was crying out for You. You must’ve recalled the cloud we abandoned at the wharf in the eastern seas, The cloud must’ve recalled you, too, for it had come. And it must’ve simply been too much, far too great a load for one child to bear. So you’re gone. There. I said it. You’re never coming back. You have become one with the wind. You have given your life to the limitless waters and your soul to the traveling air.

Never been in a hurricane but it must be a scary thing to go through !

You have no idea. It's probably the most helpless feeling ever. All that wind and rain moving at over 120 mph. We could never outdo nature. We stand no chance. I've been through 3, and a tropical storm.

Here I was thinking that those sounds were some kind of alarms (like those for tornadoes) and waiting to hear the sounds of the hurricane only to read the comments and realise that those were in fact the sounds of the hurricane.

This is still the creepiest sound I have ever heard. I read an article about "haunted" mines. I came to KZbin to see if any of them seemed creepy to me. Nope. This video, the audio in it, IS the creepiest thing I have ever heard. Hands down. Nothing has beat it yet.

It reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons with the hurricane where, when it first hit, it blew through a harmonica store, causing all the harmonicas to play at once. Sadly, I can't watch that episode anymore 😢
