I think the Pantheon are aspects of the devil, you have The Beast, Toymaker is the devil as game player, Maestro is the devil as musician (fiddler), Trickster is the devil as deal maker, the one who waits may be the capital D Devil, who they are afraid of because they will be absorbed

If the companions you are referring to where Steven and Dodo from the TV serial "The Celestial Toymaker" they both escaped with the First Doctor. Steven would later leave the TARDIS in "The Savages" to help the people of an Earth like planet build a new civilisation while Dodo would travel a little longer finally leaving the TARDIS in "The War Machines" staying on Earth in 1966 while the Doctor travelled on with new companions Ben and Polly.
