I know you guys are to young to appreciate what a superstar Elvis was, but put it this way. I was 10 years old when Elvis died in 1977, living in the highlands of Scotland, and that was the only time I ever saw my mother crying. She loved Elvis, he had a captivating hold on millions of people. Including mum.

I love that you recognize the humility of Elvis in recognizing rock and roll evolved from gospel and rhythm and blues.

Definitely soooooo fabulous!! Elvis's gospel is EVERYTHING! He grew up in the church with his mama and friends. It was what he loved the most. ❤

Elvis comes from deep seated gospel roots. The gospel was everything to him, especially after his Mother passed. He grew up dirt poor and singing gospel was very strengthening for his family. ❤

Elvis growing up so dirt poor is part of WHY is was SO generous to people , even strangers . When Elvis was a kid he dreamed about having beautiful cars , and of one day buying his parents a home of their own . When ALL of his dreams came true , AND MORE, he wanted to make other people"s dreams come true because he remembered how much he once longed for nice things . I believe that"a why Elvis was so generous !

The special also made a statement by having an African American lead dancer and a diverse group of dancers: white, Asian and African American. Then of course the African American backing vocalists among who Darlene Love who sang with many great artists under producer Phil Spector and who later became an actress as well (she most famously played the wife of Danny Glover in the Lethal Weapon movies). She's 83 now, looks great, and still sings.

What people often mistaken about Rock-N-Roll and Elvis is that he made it what it developed into. Most specifically when they say calling Elvis The King of Rock-N-Roll is a slap in the face to those who started it and to clarify this is what they are referring to when they say he stole their music, not necessarily singing their songs because that is what they did back then. A while back I found the best article describing the history of the term Rock-N-Roll. * RnR was used to describe sex in 1500s I believe. * in 1950s Alan Freed referred to R&B as RnR because of how he saw kids move when listening to it & not addressing it as R&B on a white radio station. Shortly after Elvis did his thing combining his influences of Country, Gospel & R&B. As been said, he had a style & sound all his own. And, THIS is what became known as Rock-N-Roll😁 And, why Elvis crossed genres so easily. It is important to also note that after this allowed R&B to be R&B without disguising it.

The Elvis movie is more Hollywood than factual. Not saying he didn't feel the Holy Spirit at a tent revival. Elvis used to sneak out of the church he went to and would go across town to the black neighborhood churches. He would sit in the balcony and get obsessed with the way they sang and moved singing gospel music.

Such a fantastic performance...note Elvis always included mixed people in his dancers..singers etc...both black & white dancing & singing together equally..in the '60s america that was VERY rare indeed!! If black women or men were inc often they were put in less sphisticated clothes & kept separate frm the white folk!! Elvis saw all people as equal & feel this is yet anothet example of how he felt...he started with a black dancer performing classically... a way probably most white americans hadnt seen or expected....love this so much. Still cant believe ppl STILL think he was r a c i st 🙄 So obviously not!! ❤❤❤

Did you notice his background singers, The Blossoms, the shorter woman on the right is the legendary Rock N Roll Hall of Famer Darlene Love who is still slaying it to this day as a headliner. And she still looks AMAZING. She also has only wonderful things to say about Elvis.

@@thedylanbowenEven Whitney her daughter said herself that her mother told her that she was going to be on TV. And Cissy Houston said it herself that she was in the gospel numbers with Elvis on the 68’ special. I seen the interviews on television.

It's funny but most people include Yourselves and me and the Elvis fans would give Elvis TV special his best ever, But what did Elvis think of it. Well he said. ''I did a TV show which was pretty bad. But you can't win em all'' He was probably referring to certain aspects of it. Like sitting down or His band being off key when backing him. It's hard to say.
