In terms of pacing I have high hopes for it being handled well. This episode covered the first chapter of the manga and did pretty much every panel of said chapter. So nothing cut so far.

The second they started talking about how the guy passed out asleep the second he relaxed all I could think of was him being Student Council President Shirogane's parallel world counterpart. To me this world has a 1930's to late 1940's feel to it. Also, I loved how it IMMEDIATELY cut away the second YBRL said RomCom. Totally lol'd.

I think I heard somewhere that the manga author was going for a kind of 50's-60's feel. But whenever he questioned if something existed back then, he'd just shrug it off and remind himself that this takes place in a fictional country anyway.

Some notes for ya: - The setting for this is sort of an alternate Cold War Germany in the 60's. (Loid even gets on a train to the city where this is taking placed, named "Berlint"). It's not as clear in the anime, but in the manga you can make out a date of 1962 on the newspaper he was reading. - I think the time frame of the first episode is a little less compressed than what you're thinking. Admissions were within a week, but I think that was just for the first round of testing, so that gives Loid a little more time to pick up Anya, save her, and have her memorize the test answers, since Franky obtained a copy of the test beforehand. - The anime has some subtle hints about when Anya is using her powers, including a "shing" sound they sometimes use and sparkles appearing above her hairpieces. - It's heavily implied that Anya is younger than six; she said she's six to Loid, but she was responding to reading Loid's mind when he was musing that she looked too young to be the minimum age of six to get into the school, so she likely lied. - The X is silent in the title when read out loud, similar to the silent X in _Hunter x Hunter,_ which is where they got the idea for the X in the first place. The working title was already "Spy Family" in Japanese, but the creator thought that was visually too boring, thus the extra X when they chose the official title. Looking forward to the introduction of Best (and Most Deadly) Waifu next episode!

From the reactions of the orphanage old guy when Anya says she’s 6 and he repeated it, I don’t think she’s 6. She’s definitely 1 or 2 years younger like what Loid has observed. That’s why she can’t talk in full sentences. But because due to the training and experiments she had, she can understand adults language in full. And the Karen Loid was talking about to the Old bad guy is the same Karen he broke up with at the start. So of course it implies that they’ve been in bed together hence he knows all her “mole” positions 😏

@@piput8533 you’re using a normal orphan as a guide here. She’s born in experiment facility for 3 years before she escaped as discovered by Frankie. And she’s been through different families frequently due to her asper ability. Hence the last flashback she reminded herself not to reveal her abilities to Loid or else she’ll be sent back to the orphanage again. So pretty sure the changing of families happens too frequently within a span of 1 years until that old guy at orphanage is eager to get her out of his hands to whoever wants her. And I just googled it, her age is 5+ 😁

@@ahmadmanga Wouldn't be my first choice either, it's too Twilight focused for my taste in a finale (although an earlier mission helping set up that mission would be a better choice). Still, I'd argue it works better than a lot of other missions around that point and the actual END of the mission works kind of well as it would create a nice pair of bookends on the entire season. And you have to admit, for comedy, action, marking how Twilight has changed, and still ending on a wholesome secret family message it wouldn't make a BAD season finale. Fortunately, I don't think it's going to be an issue. Even my more pessimistic estimates suggest they'd have to massage the order of the story to bring that up. But it could be surprisingly close.

So to clarify the mission: Twilight need to make contact with Desmond the creepy looking guy, he just has to become close with him first and will receive different order when he acheived that. He had 7 days to find a child and make her pass the entrance exam of the school, so technically he already cleared that (well after the parent interview). The objectives is to meet Desmond during a get together with the parents students which is at an undetermined date during the school years.

She is really smart (for a 4... i mean... self proclaimed 6 year old kid) but not as smart as an adult or a teenager actually... We were shown how she makes the kid dumb mistakes in the episode... he was thinking about enemies so she tried to be proactive by hiding under the advertisement boards, the dude thought she was scared of him... She tried to show she can take care of herself by buying her own stuff with her own money and she was way far from having enough money... and ended up looking like a dummy to him... Show feels like it might become a "serious" inspector gadget... with the roles slightly jumbled ...

She is a child whose favorite show is a spy cartoon, so having a kid randomly spout that she wants a silenced pistol isn't too strange... neither is him saying 'If we find one on sale.' When you have a kid, the moment they demand something outrageous, just say 'If we find it.' Or something that can be construed as a 'Maybe.' because to a childs mind, that's as good as a yes and will negate any temper tantrums while also allowing some time for the kid to completely forget it later on when you didn't find it on sale.

The initial mission brief said that Twilight had a week to find a kid before the test Anya needed to take to get in to Eden College, not until school itself started. Shaving off a day or so for Loid to forge his identity and buy a house, Anya and Loid probably spent around five days together, the first of which ended after Loid had to carry Anya back to the house with the groceries, and the second after the kidnapping, as it was evening in both of those shots.

The one thought I had during this episode was, "Why doesn't he think it's strange that she is constantly answering his thoughts?" I don't think he should assume telepathy, but as a spy who is trained to understand how people think, he should be recognizing that her responses are strange. It's not a problem for me. It just makes me think the series is going to use a fair amount of comedy. And... just as I type that, Lee reveals the genre. Yep. I'm in!

Ya'll didnt notice a couple things..1. Anya was created as an experiment right....she was Test Subject: 007! Imma give you a second to realize what that's referencing.....hint: a very famous spy lol also these mad scientists told her to never tell anyone she's a telepath. I'm guessing they'll dispose of her and anyone she tells if she opens her mouth about it. This show is gonna be the best of the season for sure. She was trying to fit into whatever standards he was wanting and telling or showing him what he was thinking. Also I think that was the first week already. Hm, so Episode 1 really did only cover Chapter 1, not that i wouldn’t understand why, with a length of 70 Pages Spy x Family Chapter 1 might the longest Manga Chapter i ever read, though this kind of makes me wonder how Episode 2 will do about covering the Chapter(s)? Based on the short little Preview and 2’s Episode Title, it would seem like Episode 2 will might just be covering Chapter 2 (the same way Episode 1 only covered Chapter 1), which would be understandable since Chapter 2, might not be as long as Chapter 1, it’s still the second longest Manga Chapter i ever read with 55 Pages, Hm, but still, since Chapter 2 is still shorter than Chapter 1, maybe Episode 2 will then have a little more room to breathe? ‘Cause as good as Episode 1 was, i felt like it went a little too fast within it. Well, just have to wait and see, i guess🤷🏻‍♂️.
