The point of the queen and the royal family, is to be a symbol of the people. For example: In American courts, the proceeding may begin with the line "The people vs the defendant". But in Britain it's "Your majesty vs the defendant". So when we say "god save the queen", we are not concerned about the queens' health. But the monarchy is an integral part of our past, as is the national anthem "God Save The (King or Queen) adopted over 200 years ago. So you have a culture steeped in tradition, combined with a generally consistent love of the Royal Family for hundreds of years. This is why, I feel, we won't be saying "For the people" anytime soon. We are not a Republic, and, generally speaking, the culture has no wish to become one. As stated, I maintain that British culture looks back on its past, or an idealised version of it, too much. But a titanic culture change would be needed to unseat the Royal Family. I don't see that happening anytime soon, even if they no longer enjoy near total adoration

That point actually bothered me the most. It's so incredibly intrusive, disrespectful, and inconsiderate. Giving birth is freaking hard. I've done it twice. It's as close to death as a woman can get. Some women have easy births but most of us...holy shit! Afterwards it's hard to get up let alone stand, and the last thing you want is to be standing in front of a crowd of people and media showing off your baby. It takes time to rest and heal. You look freaking awful and you don't want to be bothered. At least wait for the mother and baby to be discharged and that's at least 3 or 4 days after giving birth. The mother has at least had time to rest, shower, comb her hair, and dress comfortablely. And is sitting in a wheelchair. Smh

What I can say is that it was expected of the princes to behave ceremonial, no public grieving or anything. Harry was I think 10-12 or something. Most of the things they do are not because of tradition, but rather of survival. The royal family are not getting paid to exist, but to be entretainment to the world. The grestest spectacle visible to everyone. As the symbol of Birtiain to show their power. The traditions we thought were always done, intensifiedbecause of ww1. All the true monarchial crowns of europe fell in 4 years, and britain was in danger. The people didnt need them as they stopped being important. Tahts why all the traditions exist and they started showing in public more. Its all an act of survival, a show off, power.

@KKK Revolution im not sure of Japan. Europe's monarchies failed because of revolts against their leaders for their inefficiency during the war and putting their people through it. Japan didnt go through a movement by the people challenging their leader. If im right japan became a condtituional monarchy because of the US ocupaction of the state and part of the treaty that ended the war.

Which is why there was an outcry when the previous Japanese Monarch wanted to abdicate... It was against the view of their monarchy... Just like England, the power is with the prime minister.. Not the monarch.

Fun fact: while the royal family may be rich, they actually give up the profits from their land to the state in exchange for a fixed stream of money. As a result, taxes in the uk are cheaper than they would normally be. I recommend CGPGrey’s video on it as it goes much more in depth than I can.

But it's not really a fixed stream of money, their "salary" has been increasing, and doesn't include other large expenses from the government that they benefit from. Taxes are only cheaper if for some reason we abolish the monarchy, but they still keep all their land, which wouldn't happen. I suggest you watch Shaun's video "abolish the monarchy"

Don't believe a video just because you have seen it, they don't make taxes cheaper and it's disingenuous to say so. The profits from the lands would still exist without the royal family. It just makes it cheaper than it would if they didn't cough up the profits. At the end of the day £70 million of taxpayer money is still going down the fucking drain.
