What I really want to see is a video about modern pop/trap/whatever the f**k, cause you are a "rock man" with an interesting take on new music, I'm presuming. I enjoy the hell out of The Doors and Beatles and Zeppelin, but I also have a Vinyl of Arctic Monkeys on my wall and listen non stop to Ed Sheeran and Post Malone. So give your take on this shit, maybe you'll trick the algorithm by putting some heavy names on the thumbnail.

We get it, OP, you listen to grunge. I could name 100 more vocalists that are missing in the list, but they're not counting just vocal abilities here, popularity and influence are also taken into consideration and the people you mentioned haven't inspired anyone outside of the rock genre.
@tomasolearcin4071
@tomasolearcin4071 3 жыл бұрын
@@mdnblues True, but let's be real here. Those artists in that list inspired people mostly inside their genre too, which is pop. The thing is that pop is a lot more wide-spread than rock, so it seems like they inspired a whole world. Y'know? If they count popularity, how influential they were and singing ability, i would say that at least Kurt Cobain deserves to be in that list, since he was literally head of the movement that changed whole world. Everyone was wearing flannel shirts, torn jeans and shooting heroin. They influenced the whole world. Same 70s and 80s rock.

Chester Bennington, the ability to switch from singing clean and soft for verses to singing with distortion in choruses and to screaming is something not many top singers can do. There are many singers who can sing and scream but not many has the beautiful texture and tone Chester has and he's mastery of manipulating he's clean voice tone to fit the verse for a soft tone and chorus for a semi distorted tone definitely puts him as one of the best and most unique singer ever lived.

@Joshua Walker Yes, Chester was fantastic, but Phil Anselmo from Pantera also does that extremey well, for example songs - Cemetary Gates, This Love. It's not subjective. Yes, people can prefer someone's voice over another. But, to me, as a singer myself, what makes a vocalist "the best" is how difficult it is to replicate their voice. You can find covers on youtube of songs where people have made the vocals better with better runs, better vibratto, better support, more rasp etc. I've never heard anyone be able to sing Whitney Houston anywhere near as good. Same with Mariah Carey, Jazmine Sullivan, Michael Jackson, Wanya Morris, Marvin Gaye, Steve Perry, Sam Cooke and a few others I may be able to mention. Edit: I wrote this before you said "If I can sing it, anybody can sing it."

There are a bunch of brutal and iconic opera and musical theater singers that were not even mention, and I'm pretty sure there are amazing singers from other genres that we are forgetting, so it's impossible to make a list that covers everything. But when it comes to rock and pop, you pretty much nailed it. Besides Brandon, a few more modern that are too hard to pull off would be Ariana Grande and Bruno Mars. Chris Stapleton is an amazing country singer, but since I haven't listened to country music too much I can't say how high on the list he is. Keep it up, your videos are always awesome!

Very happy you gave Mike Patton and honorable mention. One of the highest vocal ranges out there, and often overlooked. But I do believe Maynard James Keenan should also have recieved an honorable mention.
@Danyael850
@Danyael850 3 жыл бұрын
As an add-on: Jeff Buckley, Maynard; Chris Cornell would be on top of rock vocalists, for sure. Honorable mentions Shawn James, Hozier, Aurora, Layne Staley, Olivia Merilahti; damn... it would be easier with top 100... If there was a cathegory in uniqueness of voice, would mention much more... just to mention Anohni, Sierra Ferrell or Julie Doiron.

Floor Jansen Power for days, the dexterity to flip from a straight belt to opera (well, classical) to a guttural roar and back again in a single song, stage presence, story-telling, crowd work, professionalism, as at home with gentle ballads as she is howling out a stadium shaker. And unlike many jacks-of-all-trades, she's a master of many. I do think she plays things a little safer these days than when she first joined Nightwish, but given the type of singer she is and the punishing schedules they run (when plague isn't in the way), it's undoubtedly the wisest approach.

Dimash Kudaibergen should have topped the list if we're talking vokal ability. He is in a class of his own (check out "Sinful Passion" from Sochi as an example if you want to test my opinion. And "Ogni Pietra". And "Love is like a dream"). Peace and Love.

That and breaking dawn, also trying listening to we've had enough. Michael's vocals are incredible, people don't give him enough credit for it.

@@evangelistzayparker251 exactly, seems most people overlook his singing & only focus on his showmanship. He had one of the best techniques for singing & dancing AT THE SAME TIME (something most singers don't do; it's either one or the other), as well as for applying grit into his voice, & could sing in different genres. He had a nearly 4 octave vocal range, & never lost his upper range, unlike many other tenor singers over the years. Despite his deteriorating health, Michael still sounded great in the 2000's & at the age of 50 in the 'This Is It' rehearsals.. Also, I think the song you mean is "Break Of Dawn"? :P

Range doesn't mean greatest vocalist lol his technique doesn't match the techniques of these legends..He lacks a lot..Like non-operatic headvoice,emotions, falsetto,his low notes are not connected to the songs,his nasal tone made those high notes..
