Osgood was undisputably terrific as a NY Islander. He gave them quality and credibility between the pipes and he was a winner. A pro and a winner. In the 2001-02 season he led the Islanders to one of the best seasons they've had in the past 20 years. A personal favorite of mine as well.

I'm a Pens fan and a firm believer that Osgood is HOF worthy! He got a bad rap earlier in his career that he wasn't going to be a Stanley Cup winning goalie for Detroit and I think that stuck and hurt him. He ended up winning 3 cups and 2 as a starter. In 08' he was fantastic for Detroit In that win. In 09' he again was fantastic and took them to game 7 of the Final against a Pens team that I believe just wouldn't be beat again. Osgood had mediocre regular season's those years as he was getting up in age but stepped it up HUGE for Detroit. On top of that his wins/loss record is one of the greatest ever. Yes playing for great teams helped but he was a part of those teams. 2019 SHOULD be the year Osgood gets in the Hall. He's very deserving of it.

Osgood was viewed in Detroit on his first time with the wings as the wings winning despite Osgood. It all started in 93 against the sharks and that playoff loss and the amount of center ice goals Osgood would let in anf the la king loss in 2001. I would say he is a hall of fame because during the lockout to work on a new style of goaltending, 400 wins and he scored a goal. Glad Osgood is in your hall of fame.

Osgood should have got the con smythe in 08, he replaced Hasek in the first round and saved the series. Then he took them all the way to the finals where he only got 2 shutouts. I thought he was a shoe in but Zetterberg got it. I think he deserves to be in the hall of fame, it's not his fault he played for good teams.

Osgood deserves a chance to be in the hall of fame. Mostly because he did change his style of goaltending around the lockout and that is amazing. But people forget that wing fans are reminded of the center ice goals Osgood would let in and the San Jose series.
@robins57986 жыл бұрын
If you're talking about the 1994 playoff series then Osgood can't really be blamed too much. He was a rookie and the goalie that was supposed to be the starter (Bob Essensa) played like absolute garbage so they had to go with Osgood.

Little cross-sport comparison here. I actually think the similarities between him and Alex Smith are remarkable, but osgood has obviously had more success in his sport. @lojzek916 жыл бұрын
Terry was indisputably amazing, and how he would put his head in harm's way was bordering on insane to say the least, but however you put it, it was a completely different game back then. Players were still mainly amateurs and the game wasn't nearly as fast as now. I would say that Hasek was a better goalie to play in Detroit, but it's a toss up between the 3, really. And love him or hate him, Howard is getting close to those 3 too, in my opinion. It's a shame he has to play for the current team that currently doesn't give him enough support, but his numbers are still very, very good. Bottom line: Ozzie needs to get into Hall of Fame. He definitely deserved it.

I've said this for years and have used your exact argument with Grant Fuhr. If the Wings had repeated in 09 when they lost in 7 games to the Pens he's probably in the HOF. Fuhr gets labeled "as the goalie that wins because he doesn't allow the next goal after he lets in 4 or 5 goals" and Ossie gets tagged with "along for the ride". It's all media BS.
@motor_citymuscle2883 жыл бұрын

The unfortunate reality is that Osgood's career was during other hi-profile goalies (Roy, Hasek, Belfour, Brodeur). Seems like the standards for a goalie is set higher than the others on the ice.
@rivahkillah6 жыл бұрын
When you're saying a person doesn't cost you a game, you are roundabout saying they are along for the ride. It's like being called not ugly versus being called attractive. It's a backhanded compliment, not one that you say about somebody you think should be in the HoF.

The comparison to Grant Fuhr is a good one and I've thought of that myself. Yes, Osgood played for great teams. But Fuhr played for the Gretzky/Messier/Kurri Edmonton Oilers and that never seems to be mentioned. Osgood appears to have better stats than Fuhr. There's something very wrong here. And I say that as a lifelong Rangers fan.

Osgood deserves to be in the HOF, no doubt. The ONLY thing that's holding him back is never winning a Vezina trophy, which is pretty much a requirement for induction as a goaltender. There is NO other reason for keeping him out. I think he will eventually get in, but that may just be me being hopeful. Rogie Vachon got in with nothing more than Osgood has, except one Vezina he shared with Worsley. Two of Vachon's three Cups with Montreal were won as a backup. Only one of Osgood's three was won as a backup. It took Vachon a long time to get in, but if he made it, there's hope for Osgood.
@zeromega45416 жыл бұрын
Osgood was clutch. That way he won in the playoffs. Other goalies with the red wings couldn't get it done. Manny Legacy couldn't do it, Curtis Joseph failed in the playoffs with Detroit and he bailed out Hasek in 2002.

Niemi was the most mediocre goaltender to ever win a cup. If Billy Smyth got in, then there’s no reason why Osgood shouldn’t be in the HOF. Smyth’s numbers were not great but everyone judges by the 5 Stanley Cups. I think Osgood outweighs him by a hefty margin.

Ideas to make HOF induction videos like these get more views: 1) Build the Suspense. Don't give the inductee right in the title. Make people click on it if they want to find out. Yes, some will just fast forward to the end but good-sport viewers will gladly go along for the ride. Even those who do just click and flick to the end will still up the view count, if I'm not mistaken. A title like "THG Hall of Fame, Winter 2018 Edition (or Induction)." should work better. 2) Keep the Suspense. Don't say the inductee's name right away in the video either. Talk about the player's career without using their name and keep us further in suspense. Make a bit of a guessing game out of it without delving deliberately into a "Who am I?" Let people comment below and brag exaggeratedly about how fast they figured out who it was. 3) Make it a Set Quarterly Thing. Plan it out. (Consider a separate video as the quarter approaches where you nominate a handful of candidates and have viewers "panel" vote on who gets in much like an association of sports writers and hockey insiders does for the real thing. Induct one player per quarter adding up to a total of four per year, same as the number of players inducted annually into the HHOF. That way it doesn't fill up with too many names too quickly. I like being able to rattle off all the names in it.

Osgood wasn't Roy, Brodeur, or Hasek. He played in an era with possibly the 3 best goalies of all time. That makes him look average imo. Osgood wasn't always "Hall of Fame", like Roy, Hasek, or Brodeur. But he was Hall of Fame more than enough in my opinion too get him in there. I don't think that Osgood is a hall of fame goalie, it's suppose to be the hall of fame & not the hall of very good or hall of average. I give him credit for what he did after leaving the Red Wings by going to the Islanders & Blues & giving those teams credible goaltending at a time when both teams needed it the most. But Osgood was never the most dominant goalie of his era as he played in the same time as Roy, Hasek, Cujo, Belfour, Richter, Brodeur who were by far better & truly had more of an impact on their teams success than Osgood. What is the point of the Hall of Fame if they start letting in everybody then it devalues the purpose of the honor which is meant for players to be one of the truly best to ever play the game & also exhibiting dominance game in & game out. The purpose of the honor is reward greatness & not being average or above average, If that is the case then there should be no Hall of Fame.
@dukesfan236 жыл бұрын
If you look at his regular season stats they are about on par with league average. However, if you look at his playoff stats they match up with all the greats.

@wilnerolivier79716 жыл бұрын
That may be all & good, If you have big game to win in net there is no way that Osgood would be your first choice. It seems if you say that a guy isn't worthy of the Hall of Fame then it comes across as an insult. Osgood had a nice career with the 3 cups which includes 2 as a starter, he's one of the few goalies that has scored a goal in NHL history, Vezina trophy runner up, could hold his own in a fight & when he was with the Islanders had a legitimate chance to possibly go to another Cup final if Darcy Tucker didn't take out Michael Peca with a dirty knee on knee hit in the first round in the 2002 playoffs. Unfortunately the Hall of Fame in all the sports have been watered down because instead of rewarding greatness & dominance, it's rewarding averagism & that is what the Hall of Fame is starting to become & when you are debating whether a guy is a Hall of Fame or not then it's more likely that he isn't.
