As a 7th year teacher, I completely agree with you on every single point! I have especially learned that high school students NEED structure, policies, and procedures. This 100% helps with behavior.

Agreed! Even as adults we need structure. I STRUGGLE during summer break having no structure and no routine and all the time in the world to do whatever, whenever 😂

Your videos are so extremely helpful. I am entering the classroom as a sub while I do the Texas Cert Program and you are so informative. I have finally decided at 40 years old to be in the career that I have always wanted. Thank you and please keep making teacher vids:)

That’s the same route I took! I subbed for a year while working on my Alt Certification! 😊 I transitioned careers from being a news reporter to teacher!

Great video and tips! My first year teaching mistake was to grade EVERYTHING. Every. Single. Assignment. 🤦🏻♀️

Hello, I’m about to be a first year teacher as I just received my LOE from my alt cert program and am about to start applying and I’m terrified and excited as well. I was wondering if you have videos on how to apply and how to set up a resume for applying to your first teacher job as an alt cert.

I'm soooo glad that you have uploaded "teaching videos". love your content and you inspire me to be a better teacher each day. by the way, we're somehow the same coz i'm a journalism major in college and took education units to be allowed to teach.

Aww thanks so much for watching! I have a lot of videos on my channel about how I started substitute teaching to becoming a certified teacher. I became certified through alternative certification after college. I worked for the Dallas Morning News for almost a year and realized I did not want to work in journalism anymore.

Do you see longevity within this path? Of course live is evolutionary and it’s often I see people evolve into education and then transition to counseling or leadership or even use the skills from the classroom as analyst or learning and development professionals… I just ask because now that you can reflect on experience as a teacher I wonder if you see it as a path you’d do long term or as a bridge to another purpose

The cell phone policy will be the most difficult, but so important, even though a lot of the kids won't see it that way right away. But they'll get it eventually.

Wow, girl! I know this is an older video and you're not teaching anymore, but the school you worked at sounds quite toxic. You didn't have a teacher's cafeteria spot? Your class doesn't have windows? There's not a school-wide rule about cellphones? No wonder so many US teachers quit... I'm glad you did reflect on your previous experiences, though. I've got a question: do first time teachers get guidance? To be fair, I didn't when I started out, but the school I'm working at does provide new teachers with guidance. They're also not required to be a part of a group (for example to set up the beginning of the school year, organize events, etc.). I don't teach high school, though. I teach primary school (4-6 year-olds) and the school system differs in the Netherlands. We don't have a separation of elementary and middle school. High school is right after primary school here in the Netherlands.

I'm 33, but I look younger. So when they ask me that, I always tell them. Most of my Jr. High students have parents my age.
