Already have since a couple of years. There is a really healthy smaller german underground Metal KZbin scene with 12-16 channels who really knock it out of the park. It started around 2016/2017 and is its own microcosm now. Many of them also do lifestreams and podcasts etc. With Farvanns english videos he has the biggest reach yet. They are also able to interview a lot of musicians, be it underground bands or legends

As an OG metalhead, I get it. I was there for the 80s.... That being said, I'm not a huge fan of most of the screaming or growls. There's a few bands I like and a few songs from quite a few more bands that use that vocal style. I also sang in a few metal bands, so I know that screams aren't easy and can completely destroy your voice if not done right. So I appreciate it... Its just not my style.

You add distortion to singing or to guitars because it brings forward a vibe, a feeling, an emotion. That's what music is about, it is an art form that people make to express something they want to express. Art is subjective, and if you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad, it means it is just not for you. Also, yes they can sing clean in metal, cause the techniques the artist wants to use are his decision to make to best portray his ideas. And that is also the beauty of it, it is a testament to the diversity of people. It's all subjective.

A brief summary of how I explained it to my incredibly sheltered friend in middle school: Her: Wha-what is this? Why is this? Me: Because YES… You in a bad mood? Screams👌🏻 You in a good mood? Screams👌🏻 Not in the mood for screams? You’re lying to yourself! 🎉 We all feel like screaming on the inside. These people just take the time to do it outwardly in musical form and I listen to it because it soothes the anger I feel constantly boiling in my soul. It also helps motivate me to get through the day because sometimes it’s really hard and it gives me the extra energy I need to keep going. A lot of the songs are actually pretty motivational if you look up the lyrics. *proceeded to show lyrics to songs I enjoyed (Pretty sure it was Of Mice and Men or Crown the Empire cause I was really into them at the time)* She now listens to metal on her own occasionally and I’m proud! She prefers instrumentals to vibe to, but that’s understandable sometimes I do too.

Just as dubstep producers use mixing boards and music programs to make sounds other than the limited physical instruments we have, metal singers probably want to make their voice sound like more than a default human voice by singing differently than pop singers or whatever. I’m a huge fan of dubstep, preferably fast paced, and if the type of shit I listen too were personified it would sound way more terrifying just because it’s a human singing it and I think a lot of people don’t realize that the human voice is an instrument, and can be altered

Well, I mean, you CAN forgive a non-metalhead for categorising Nickelback as metal. The same way you can categorize Eminem as pop. Seriously though, if somebody asked my questions like that, I usually asked the questioner about their fav music and then astonish him with my knowledge about his music and in 7-8 out 10 times, that person withdrew the question and said something along the lines of "Oh, I thought, you metalheads only listen to metal. Maybe I should expand outside my music genre as well." By the way, Nik, just read about you in 'Metal Hammer'. Nice to see your familiar face in there.

I honestly think that people who like metal are some of the most well rounded in terms of musical variety. Cuz when I tell oriole I listen to EVERYTHING they don't think I'm serious. Until they find it i went to see Andrea Bocelli and then immediate went to a race right afterwards. (Saw bad Omens the night before. It was a great weekend). So yeah, chances are, whatever music you like, I've listened to a bunch of that too. That always shocks people. Then again, in shocked by people who only restrict themselves to a single genre, cuz i just don't get that. Sure, I prefer Rock and metal, that's my favorite genre. My mom was like this about anime, always called it that "jap crap" I watch. They're are just some people in the world who think that their way, their idea, are the only correct ones. I think it stems from a sense of superiority. They think they're better than other people, and therefore, so are the things they like. Which means of you like something different, it's automatically discounted as crap. Now, in one of those people that sees people enjoying things, and maybe those things aren't my cup of tea, or I don't get it. But I just go, good for them, they're having fun and they're happy. We don't all have to like the same things. I don't shit on other people and put down the things they like, because that's childish, and ultimately, really entitled, to think you know better. Sounds like your dad is just one of those people who wants to be right. So yeah, don't bother trying to explain it to him he's never going to get it. And that's because he doesn't want to understand. He doesn't care. He just wants to be right and he thinks the music he likes is better and you're probably not gonna convince him otherwise. Bit the good news is that when you grow up and you're in your 30s like me, you can do whatever you. And if that means you want to spend your money on tickets to metal shows and then you have to buy new glasses cuz they get broken in a moshpit, you can do that. (And no, im not mad about my broken glasses at all, cuz that was a freaking blast and I'd do it again). Anyway, keep loving what you love. Keep listening to things you enjoy. And fuck anyone who tries to shit on the things that make you happy

My biggest issues with people who "complains" about metal, is the issue I have when people generally complain about something. They have not really taken the time to know about the subject. Americans complaining about taxes or socialism with understanding that the average person have more money for themselves in a healthy tax system. Or when people complain about metal and say Limp Bizkit is metal. I don't mind if metal is not for someone. But you can't speak to it if you have not actually taken the time to know about it. Same with food. I don't like veggies.. I don't eat fish its disgusting. Its so unintelligent to just have statements like that, because the topic has so many things to it.

Right? Like have you ever tried it? That shit is hard and your voice hurts after. And any real vocal coach or someone well trained in vocal techniques will tell you that it takes a TON of skill to do all those distorted and unclean vocals without damaging your voice. (Side note: the technique and science behind it is pretty cool, the way you engage your fake vocal chords instead of your regular ones and open your larynx. Then again, maybe im just a nerd) It's actual VERY technical, at least, if you want to to do it the right way. And any singer who wants to have longevity in their career has to learn to do it right so they don't trash their voice. That's my rebuttal for people who think it's so easy. I tell them to do it then. And then to keep doing it for hours every day (like a singer would when touring). Oh? You can't? Because it's not actually that easy? Yeah, that's right
