VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
Hi Everybody,
The economics of TEA in India is one of the most fascinating concepts you will ever discover, and while mostpeople only know TEA as a beverage, what we often don’t see is that it is an incredible product to build a million-dollar business!
The question is, how can you build a million dollars business by selling this 10-15Rs product? Well, that’s exactly what I wondering!
And as luck would have it, I got the opportunity to meet one of the smartest founders in the tea business who goes by the name Anubhav Dubey. And his company, the Chai Sutta bar has become such a mammoth and that today, they serve 3 lakh cups of Tea every single day, have 485 stores spread across the country, and as of 2022, they have achieved a combined revenue of around Rs 150 crores !
Fun fact, they have achieved this revenue without raising a single penny from investors!
And for the first time, Anubhav has revelead all the economics behind his business model! So in this episode today, lets go deep and try to understand,
How on earth can you build a million-dollar business by selling tea?
What is the economics behind this business?
How is the business model of Chai Sutta Bar different from other Tea selling companies?
and most importantly, as students of business, what are the lessons that we need to learn from Chai Sutta Bar?
Think School is a Digital School that we all deserved, but never had

At the very least, I now grasp the concept of leverage. Creating wealth and financial freedom isn't as tough as many people believe. Building wealth and remaining financially stable indefinitely is a lot easier with the appropriate information. Participating in financial programs and products is the only true approach to make a high income and remain affluent indefinitely.

The first step to wealth creation, is figuring out your goals and risk tolerance - either on your own or with the help of an investment advisor. If you can get the facts about savings and investing with a well detailed plan, you should be able to gain financial security over the years and enjoy the benefits of managing your income.

You’re correct! Working with an investment advisor who has worked in a solid financial firm for a long time, such as John will actually set you up for success in life. I'm delighted I was able to reach out to "John Desmond Heppolette" earlier this year because while others were grumbling about the downturn in the markets due to the state of the economy, I was busy learning from him and eventually made over seven figures in the first quarter alone, which is why it's always good to join the correct community.

I think that's where McDonald's has the best trick.. They actually pick the location of the store, and the company owns the property and collect rent from the franchise owners. So, the company makes additional profits. The franchise owners never have to worry about landlords and increased rentals, and the company can actually support the franchise if they want to by giving discounts in rental, instead of paying out of there own pockets.

According to my understanding everyone should have plan A & Plan B. But having only plan A is necessary to maintain focus on the goal..which works with most people who're having sufficient finances for backup. But for those who aren't having sufficient money to backup it's very necessary to have plan B which should be an active source of income so that you can keep pumping money or necessary resources to keep plan A alive.📈🔺 If you don't get desired results on Plan A, you can go back to Plan B and gather required resources and comeback to plan A again with the learnings..✨💯

How can u claim that the average turnover is 5.75 lakh per store If that is the case then even if we consider 440 store operational ( excluding latest stores that are newly opened) The total turnover of the company stands at 303.6 cr. But the actual turnover is 150 cr and if we consider this then the average turnover of per store will be 2.84 lakhs per month and if we see the gross margin here then as per the expenses you have mentioned if incurred then the owner has to bear it from his own pocket. Also I strongly feel that if the franchisee doesn't make money, does the company returns the franchisee fees or simply let the owners money burn. Because most of the companies are into the business of selling franchise rather than selling products. 6 lakhs franchise fees for a tea cum snacks shop is way too much @ThinkSchool would really appreciate if you can check this and correct
@GouravJain
@GouravJain Жыл бұрын
Few things you need to understand, all stores are not owned by CSB, so majority of the 303.6 crore turnover you calculated is of the franchise owners and not CSB. CSB only gets to make 4% as royalty from the 303.6 crores sales of all the stores combined, certain percentage profit on raw materials, Franchisee Fees etc, which in turn may lead to the number 150 crores.

Think in terms of profit percentage. What's the point if cost increases with gross profit? At the end, the net profit in hand is still the same. This model will always hit stagnancy here. @@Priyanshuc2425 Your cost is increasing too when you say 50% of 1cr. It is obvious if you sell product of 1 cr you will earn more profit. But "profit percentage" is same. In business shouldn't the goal be decreasing cost and increasing profit margins? But here your "cost" is increasing with increase in profit. So there is no use. And I didn't say to calculate revenue in percent, I said to calculate "profit or margin" in percent. Read again.

@tusharbhingarde1797 Жыл бұрын
@@bloodwargaming3662 I cannot explain this if you don't think in terms of profit percent. From 1 rupee to 1000 rupees, the cost of business is also 100x. So at the end you are again only earning "50% as profit". And that's not a good way to scale a business as per me.

Just two question on my mind now. How is this model different from MBA Chaiwaala's model? Would CSB face same issues that MBA chaiwaala is rumored to have been facing with its franchises?
@xyz-ll9pk

I dont know whether csb is profitable or not but for sure its commendable that without raising any money they have achieved that turnover and the difference which u were asking is firstly combos and the price of tea like they have a wide variety of teas and that too costs high and locations mba chaiwala chose ...mba chaiwala locations in places like delhi is running profitably but not in 2 tier cities whereas csb i think its clicking bcoz of its combos buy still it would have been great if think school had reavealed what are the net profits after tax of csb

This is all great !! But they really need to work minutely on each of their retail outlet. Maine dekhe hai kuch on ground pe, not all of them are best, also Gandhinagar, GJ me I saw one, was not it good condition and got closed after few months, no customers and all. So keep a quality benchmark they should inspect each store and do the required changes Love Anubhav ❤

What stops the land owner from moving them out once their rent agreement expires and opening their own local Chai Cafe there? As you said the location matters most, so I believe the land owner has more power than the company itself in simple commodities.

Most of the succesful business models around the planet, are based on paying money in exchange for instant pleasantness...making a precedent , that you give money in exchange for buying pleasantness of experience, that in a way , means no pleasantness if no money exchanged... long term making humans incapable of experiencing pleasantness of experience , without Literally "Buying" pleasure.

You gave a very good combo example, but the terminology is bit confusing to the viewers. Total gross profit is reduced by combo price that is 39-5(profit reduction)=34 reduced gross profit, or 104-16(profit reduction)=88 or 124 -25=99 so they still make a profit with a cut from the reduced group pricing. While the profit is about 50-60% when sold separately, otherwise about 50% if sold as a combo. Here what we see is growth in the revenue due to higher foot traffic into the shop (because one who wants only a tea/coffee is low while ones who are hungry to buy a coffee/tea as a side like pakoda with tea, sandwich with fries, etc) are higher, meaning more sales/revenue. Although profit is cut a bit but the revenue increase stands up the business. That is what we are looking at higher sales or revenue from a shop, than a gross/profit only from a single product sale like tea or coffee. It is a known sales tactic to increase revenue. All because is that real estate, utilities, staff, etc cost would be higher than what could be generated by a single product (ie, tea or coffee) and can not survive the costly overhead. Multiple products sale with higher foot traffic into the business is what can provide enough dough to cover the cost, thus giving a nice healthy net profit :) When there is not enough dough, good enough roti/naan can not be made with right ingredients be that a butter, aaloo, garlic or coriander topping. A pale simple dry naan/roti can not survive a long. Same logic. Hope you got the point. Happy learning :)
